I know that .

Sorry!

I've been wanting to ask Dot where to go and watch a shuttle launch. Larry and I are planning to go down next month.

Hi Reva!

Betty might be able to give you better info on launch viewing spots. And if you Google it, you'll find a lot of info. But here's what we did:
We just drove up US 1. When we got to the Cocoa area, we started to see people gathering in different spots. We kept going, passed out of Cocoa into Port St. John, just below Titusville. We wound up at this park:
Nicol Park
6660 N. Cocoa Boulevard
Port St. John, FL 32927
321-633-1904

It is directly across the river from the launch site. You can clearly see the shuttle hangar and, when the shuttle took off, we were able to see it lift from the ground and we were also able to see the boosters separate and drop.
We got to the park about 3 hours before launch time. We parked in a small strip across the street from it and had lunch in a diner...as did many other people. After we ate, we went over to the park, got comfy on the grass and waited. I heard people who arrived after us say that they had a hard time finding parking, so I wouldn't get there later than 3 hours before launch.
I know there are places closer to the launch site, but they get crowded early, so if you choose one of those, make sure to give yourself plenty of time. Some of the viewing sites actually pipe in the countdown. Ours didn't, but we had a small radio with us, and we were able to hear all the transmissions from Mission Control. Very exciting.
If you go, I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!
Hope this was helpful.
Take care.

Thanks for the advice. Seeing a launch is on my bucket list. We are going to the one in April and hope it's not delayed. We're trying to take our 4 year old grandson, but not sure if his parents will let him get that far away. We even offered to let our SIL go with us, just so Victor can go.

I'm thinking these last 2 flights will be very crowded, so we'll probably get there 4-5 hours early just in case. Can you see the launch site from much of Hwy.1?

The crazy thing is, I was in St. Augustine once during a liftoff, (went into a mall and forget about it), and at EPCOT once during a night lift. I stood outside about 30 minutes watching the sky and still missed it.

Just rummaging through the thread, and want to correct this:
No, Connor does not go to Penn State, he goes to University of Pennsylvania. Penn State is the state school. U of P is Ivy League.
My bad - I knew that. Chaulk it up to senioritus, or this stupid stomach /flu/cold bug that I can't seem to shake.
