American Idol Experience failing!?

A shortage of talentless people willing to humiliate themselves for the entertainment of others? Whod have thunked it.
Exactly. Although there is no shortage of talentless people (of which I am one), I am also among those that don't want to humiliate myself. At least not purposely.

We need time for things to happen.
Actually, I think Disney AI is pretty well done, and an entertaining show. While the structure gets old after a few visits, I was pleasantly surprised as to the level of talent in the contestants.

Let me start by saying I was a major detractor of this AI idea from the second I heard about it. It may as well have been Sounds Dangerous 2!
Everyone in this thread touched on all the other reasons this seemed like a bad idea already so I won't get into it....BUT THAT BEING said:

We were there from May 4-11 and we caught one of the shows.
I have to agree with CT, .
Being a life long musician I'm not easily impressed but of the 3 performers two were actually very good.
The third was pretty bad that aside the overall show and Disney's ability to immerse you in the event was pretty amazing. The entire family had a great time.

Another couple of notes -

It was one of the most packed days in DHS of entire vacation there and the theater was just about half full.

I would have definitely seen another show if it weren't for the fact I spent every spare moment at DHS trying to beat my wife's high score at TSMM!!!!!!!:D

As far the prize for the winners - If you're one of many people throughout the US thinking about auditioning for AI, the "golden ticket" to move to the front of the audition line at any of the try out locations, seems like a HUGE plus.

Anyway that was my 2 cents!

Kinda defeats the purpose....
Yes, it does.

However, if interest is as low as people think, paid singers would be a very viable "B" mode.

I think the lack of tangible reward is main barrier. Even if I could sing, I would have no desire to audition for American Idol, therefore there is no incentive for me to spend half a day of my vacation sitting around.

The reward would need to be enough to compensate people for their lost time (1/2 day) but inexpensive enough that it could be dealt out 7 days a week. A tiered system like "Who Want's to be a Millionaire".

Only if you fit the "demographic age", 16 - 30 (I don't remember exactly, but I really think it's younger than 30).
So out of all the people who go to the park, you're trying to get "anybody" from roughly 20% of the market to take the chance (overcoming any stagefright, passing initial auditions, having the time and money to travel "just to take a chance in Orlando" , etc.) to get their "golden ticket" to the "real" AI auditions. I don't know.

How well did the attraction do when the cheerleaders were there? Were there a full days worth of contestants then? That was their Prime Demographic!

This summer should be the "make or break" for the attraction. All those "many people throughout the US, wanting to give their 'young star' a chance to get a 'golden fastpass' ".

I wonder if the "actual show" ( Disney paying for promotional air time) will "showcase" DHS as a place were you can take your child to try to get one of those "golden tickets" during the Season Finale? That might be the only thing that might keep it alive this summer. As for the start of next seasons shows, once the "real show" starts, the "draw" will probably fade again.

The American Idol Experience was a shortsited, terrible decision for Disney to implement. My wife & watch the television show on a regular basis. But there's a difference watching talent from all over the country compete versus watching 3 theme park attendees grabbing a mike between rides and turkey legs. You couldn't pay us to enter that theater!
I'd say it won't last long.......but if Sounds Dangerous can survive for years at the Studios, pretty much any pile of garbage can.

Actually, much to my frustration, the show is quite popular. Problem is finding enough singers, as I predicted.

Servo has it right. The article does not say anything about the attraction failing, just that they are struggling to recruit singers.

That's a problem that can be addressed in any number of ways, some of which have been mentioned in the thread already.

The attraction will be a failure when the theatre is half empty.

So the naysayers don't have it right, yet.

I really like the show american idol (on TV) but at disney world I just dont get it .
Im sure the show is nice but I highly doubt I would enter this attraction unless I have done everything else in the park more then once and I needed to kill time or there was very extrem weather and my poncho broke and the park has sold out all their ponchos and thats if I really have too.

You nailed it exactly. I love Idol on TV, but to invest the amount of time you would need to get the whole experience would pretty much wipe out your time in the rest of DHS. I, personally, spend one day in each park when I go there (can't afford more) and to spend that much time at the "experience" would be a waste.

When I go in September I will go to one show just to see, but I doubt I'd do much more.

Now that you bring that up! Who would want to loose half of their day? When you can be exploring! Also, You might just waste all that time for nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
