I wonder.. If they do plan on doing StarWarsLand on that part of the park. I bet they keep stuff hush hush... Start tearing down and let everyone keep guessing what they are doing.

Seriously with this gone, what's left of the backlot tour??? They must be planning something. The backlot tour serves no real purpose anymore, it has to be closing soon. That whole back area has to be nearing time for redevelopment . I can guess this won't be the last we hear of stuff changing in that part of the park. They should either build a cars land or Star Wars land there.

They would have to move the costuming center and all that jazz ... when they move out then we know something is up.

Sad to see this go, especially since it so easily could be relocated elsewhere. I always enjoyed it, and the shop as they added to the environment of Hollywood. I bought many a Marilyn book there. :)

Here is a thread with some photos from the last time I was there...

Maybe the contract just ran out with AFI or something.
Yep I would imagine that a contract somewhere is up, and is not being renewed - for any number of reasons.

Replacement?

A new "after the park closes" cocktail hour and or meal until 12AM....And ticket to entry only a cool $60 per person (theme park ticket required)

This with cool theming, maybe an imagineer talking about future developments at WDW, or even Anna and Elsa from 'Frozen'....heck, all three!

First we lose the houses(Golden Girls!) and now THIS!?! What the heck is the point of it anymore. I really hope they re-haul the entire backlot, keep canyon and improve on having an actual Backlot Tour.....TOUR!

Not sure if this question is running through anyone else's head like it is mine, but what happens to the old Sid's merch that was for sale there, specifically Bert's jacket from Mary poppins?

I went to youTube to find a video of the AFI showcase and ended up finding an old Studio Backlot Tour... I had no idea how large this was when it opened, pretty cool.

I hate to say it but I don't think I'd miss anything (other than the Muppets and Osbourne Lights) if they eliminated the entire Streets of America portion of the park and replaced it. That is a huge chunk of land that doesn't really add much to the park anymore.

The only way SoA could work is if they fanagle a deal with Universal and turn New York Street into an Avengers area. Add Stark Tower to the skyline, put a crater in the road with Mjolnir in the center, have black SHIELD vehicles parked about, etc.

Uhh, seeing as how a Disney executive has said "Star Wars presence will be expanding. ..", it's possibly a safe conclusion to come to.

Whoosh.

That was the sound of my point flying right past you.

If I were a gamblin' man, I would bet on Star Wars being added to DHS. That's not the point. The point is any time anything happens, there are dozens of posts about how it is obviously linked to Star Wars. And most of it probably isn't. People act like they are breaking ground tomorrow.

It's just getting a little old that any time a bus driver farts it's because there's an X-wing spinner being built. We probably have a good 4-5 year wait. Let's not wear out the excitement before it's even announced.

Oh that's to bad I always enjoyed getting to check out the costumes and set pieces in the showcase as well as taking a little rest in the air conditioned space. Oh well hopefully this is a sign that the space will be used for an even better attraction or torn down completely for the future of PIXAR Place and DHS.

This video is incredibly sad and difficult to watch. What makes it worse is Jim Hill's comment that the solution is spinners :banghead:

I was thinking more along the lines of bulldozing everything south of Star Tours and TGMR and everything south and west of TSMM and starting over from scratch.

Even if they left the buildings south of Star Tours (muppets, pizza planet, mama melrose, etc) and just bulldozed LMA, the studio tour, and the unused backlot theater they'd have a huge piece of land to work with.
