The last time that I saw the American Pavilion presentation at EPCOT (which, BTW, is my favorite of all attractions at WDW, tied perhaps with the Carousel of Progress), I noticed that Ben Franklin and Mark Twain discussed the close of the millennium or century (forgot which) as they spoke from the lantern of Lady Liberty.
The script still spoke as if we were in the 20th century. I wondered then when they would update the dialog. I thought then (June 2001) that it was the only thing that stuck out and dated the attraction.
That line still needs to be updated I suppose, but I also wondered if the attraction should be tweaked given modern events.... or if it is too early to do so.
My personal thought is just to update the dialog so that it is current on the date, and maybe re-evaluate the final speech, but to leave the Liberty scene itself as the end. The speech currently implies that our prosperity and comfort is at a level that few nations have been able to maintain, and that our enemies now may come from dealing with the malaise that comes from such sustained comfort.
In a way, that may have played into what happened on September 11, 2001, but it also makes the show seem awkward in the current situation...
Any ideas for tweaking the final speech or the final scenes altogether?
And does anyone know if plans are underway to do so, anyway? Do they even realize that the dialog still refers to the 20th century as current?
