AMC's Concession Stand of the Future

The bar prices are quite reasonable considering it is on property and in a movie theater. The upstairs bar location between theaters one and two has a popcorn machine - and was open in addition to the downstairs one near the old restrooms. They had some Harry Potter themed drinks. Oh and bring some cash as they don't have the ability just yet to accept tips via credit purchases.

They plan on reopening the patio above the entrance soon for patrons after some minor construction.

hmm... we were considering catching Tangled while we were down on our trip over in DTD. Maybe this will make it worth a stop in. I guess it depends on if we feel we can give up a few park hours or not, of course, we always plan DTD time, if we just plan in an extra couple hours, it might be a fun time.

Seriously? You're going to see a movie simply to visit the self-serve concession area, which isn't exactly a new concept?

I was thinking about catching Tangled tomorrow, pending on what the Spill Crew over at Spill.com have to say about it. The stand and bar look great to me and is a welcomed addition to my usual theater.

I'm not too excited about the Coke Freestyle machines. They're kind of a pain to use. Neat concept, but still have a few kinks in their execution.

No, as I said, we were considering seeing Tangled anyway, this might just add one more thing to the reasons to stop into the theater in DTD rather than the one here local.

Interesting, when I first heard the term “Concession Stand of the Future” for some reason I was envisioning those vending machines out of Japan that can distribute just about anything.

I'm having a hard time understanding what part of this is futuristic.

I think all the hot dogs are cooked with laser beams!

Really, nothing. It's just AMC taking versions of what is done at other places across the country and putting them in one place. It's like the cafeteria concept, mixed with the bar at the movies concept, mixed (soon) with a full-service menu style eat-and-watch concept. None of which is ground breaking, just most likely the way that a lot of AMC theaters will be moving in the upcoming months/years.

full-service menu style eat-and-watch concept.
How feasible is that, though? There were some movie theaters that had started reserved seating and waiter service (though it was for the standard concessions fare) over a decade ago, many which had since abndoned it. I'm guessing most people simply just didn't participate, because it often involved a higher ticket price. DTD is touristy enough to probably work, but if this is something they plan to do nationwide, I don't doubt it will meet the same fate as earlier attempts...particularly if they charge a premium.
