Am I insane?

Ok I know I may catch serious grief for this...but here it goes...

I have ADRs booked for our upcoming trip in 9 days...however the more I think about it, the more I'm thinking of cancelling all of them and just finding places to eat on the fly once we're down there.

My reasoning? I just don't feel like having ADRs dictate where I have to be at any given time. I'm not such a food snob that I turn my nose up at certain resturants. I can find something great to eat anywhere! We're using the dining plan and I'll have my Disney Experience App that I can look at availabilites on the fly...that way no matter where we are we just find a place with seating.

So...am I insane for wanting to be ADR free?

I don't think it's crazy, however, you'll likely have to be okay going to the resorts and/or lesser known restaurants for meals. I would definitely plan on eating at off times and not at the heart of tradtional meal times. It can be done, but there's a chance you won't be able to get in. I would keep any must have places.

We always go ADR free. I'll get criticized for writing this but there's no restaurant at WDW that's worth dictating my touring schedule. At best, I'll pop into a park first thing in the morning and book whatever is available later that day.

I understand why first-timers want to eat at <insert your favorite WDW restaurant here> once but OMG, too many start "How are my ADRs?" threads with 2 or 3 ADRs booked for every day of their trips. Sorry but the food simply isn't that good. Sometimes it's downright awful.

WDW offers too many sights, sounds, and tastes to tie yourself down to one of them, never mind having an entire trip built around ADRs.

The gauntlet’s been thrown down. Now tell me why your WDW vacation would be a disaster without ADRs.;)

That's what we did on our last trip. I booked 2 meals prior to leaving for WDW, Princess lunch at Akershus and breakfast on a non-park day at 1900 Park Fare. I was amazed at how many great reservations we were able to make from our room by grabbing the phone and hitting the dining reservations button. Sure, they may ask if you can be somewhere in 30-45 minutes but...it's Disney World, of course you can! lol My wife and I actually had fun seeing where we could get in or make on the fly reservations.

Insane? No. Daredevil? Yes. :D

Just kidding, my family and I go at a relaxed pace never rushing and always do late dinners so it never really interferes with our day. I say keep some and dump the rest!

When we went in Nov 2011 we didn't book any ADR's before going. We figure we were going on one of the slowest weeks of the year we should have no problem finding some place to eat. Our first night in Magic Kingdom we didn't eat until very very late because every restaurant we found had an hour plus wait time to get in without a reservations. We finally sat down to a Cosmic Rays and ate. While for me it wasn't that big of a deal, Dear Hubby was not happy. He went online once back at the room and booked the rest of our sit down meals.

As I said I was not upset with it, I was more worried about getting my daughter fed and her meds in her before we reached meltdown mode. Next time we go we will be doing ADR's, but we need to for daughter's meds so we need to know when we will have a sit down time to take them. Depending on our one ADR is what park we will be in for that day. We are still new enough to go to WDW to not be at the point where we can wing it. And we may never get there Dear Hubby likes to know exactly when he's having his sit down meal.

I say go for it. It's your vacation time do what you want. If everyone in your party is flexible awesome. I would love to hear how it works out for you!

Much like eating a Reese's, there just isn't a wrong way to do it!

For some people, food is a big part of their Disney experience. What they eat, when and where they eat - it all matters to them...and that is great for them. Others don't care much about food. So long as they're sated, they're good. And that's great, too.

OP, you just have to do whatever works for you. Nobody is crazy. :)

the thing is that because its disney world and theres so much to do, alot of reservations are going to be cancelled or people will just not go. So you could get lucky and just walk in alot of places. I have walked into the royal table, crysal palace, and a mexican resturaunt.
