Alligators at resorts

Yes there are Gators and snakes on the Disney properties at a lot of the resorts and surrounding properties. Disney actually has a Reptile team that does a round up of the bigger gators that are deemed a potential isse and are caught and relocated. Also Snake teams work during the night and day but are kept at a low key so tourist don't panic. Now if you reall want to see something cool, wait till it rains in the evening hours and look at some of the hotel doors on the resorts and you will see some really good sized tree frogs as well. Lastly if you do see a snake, avoid it an report it to Disney personel, I know my reptiles and have seen a corral snake at the Coranado Springs and two pigmy rattle snakes, one at the Wildernest lodge and the other at Dixie Landings. Lastly who ever stated about the Gators in Lake Wales is true. My brother lives about 10 minutes from that mall and I have gone over there with him to see the Gators.

On my last trip as we were leaving DTD to go back to the airport our bus driver reversed the bus and told us all to look out the window at a couple of alligators in the river and the very brave duck swimming quite close to them!

Nuisance gators, gators that have been fed by people and gator that just get too big (How many Tim Tebow jokes can you make out of that ? :lookaroun ) are removed by Disney and either relocated or eliminated from the eco-system.

The moral? Its a gator, don't touch it.

Being half Seminole and half Bull all gators are nuisance gators:fork:
We do like to feed them Ibis once in a while.
Nobody likes Ibis....

We will be staying at POR bayou section on our next trip. This will be our first time staying there. Should I be worried about the alligators & snakes - we have young children. Are they more prevalent at certain times of year?

No. Both alligators and snakes will do everything they can to get away people. As long as you leave them alone they will leave you alone. You might see one, (a snake would be far more likely than an alligator) but unless you go after the thing you will have nothing to worry about.

exactly. Just be careful where you walk; it's easy to bother them on accident. Not likely, but easy.

There is a large variety of wildlife at WDW and alligators are no exception. They have been spotted all around the park...Bay Lake, FW canals, the marshes North of Epcot. There are rumors of their relocation of course. The biggest fear is having one roaming around Fort Wilderness among campers. Anyone with a keen eye will see Deer, racoons, giant rats, and an occasional bobcat.

I love to see alligators in the wild. We are staying at POR next month and I am hoping to see one while we are there. I do know that they come out at night a lot, and if you shine a flashlight at one it's eyes will reflect red. We would do that a lot when I was younger and you would be amazed how many you could see. I'm not sure if they would like you doing that there, but it would be cool to ride on the boat at night with a flash light and count the number of eyes looking back at you. :ROFLOL:I loved doing this when I was little.

Don't forget wild turkeys and the occasional wild boar. Out of all of the animals on property IMHO the biggest danger and nuisance are the raccoons followed closely by the turkey's. Raccoons are pretty obvious...the things are flat out smart and if you have something they want it is only a matter of time before they get it. I have seen the things operate step to open trash cans and unscrew mason jars. Turkeys on the other hand are flat out stupid. When the males start fighting and strutting during mating season they do not really seem to care about such trivial things as people, camp sites, buses and cars going 30+ MPH, etc.

yes ...forgot about the Turkeys. Actually I saw 3 turkeys last week east of FW in the clearing off Vista Drive. Right out in the open..I had never seen any in the park before but had heard they were there.

Were they the 'winged' kind, (or were they on two legs). :ROFLOL:

I've seen alligators, snakes, otters, racoons, and yes even the winged turkey.

We see them all the time in that island of land just past the parking booth at MK. On one particular day they had traffic backed up coming out of WL as two gobblers were fighting in the middle of the intersection.

While playing golf on the Magnolia course, I saw 3 gators including a HUGE one that easily 6+ feet. I pointed him out to a groundskeeper and he was slackjawed. And while I was putting on one hole, I looked up and here comes a turkey walking across the green. We looked at each other and he just kept on going like nothing happened.

The peacocks that use to be FW were pretty and the flock was huge. They would come through your campsites and some would eat out of your hand. But they became a nuisance and I heard they were all rounded up and shipped off. Don't know if its true.
