All things Universal Studios Hollywood

Went yesterday, hard to believe they built it that small - it was so claustrophobia and everything is piled on top of each other so nothing can breathe.

The castle is half covered by the mushroom and it is hard to be able to step back and appreciate everything.

I heard several people complaining that they can’t figure out what to do as very thing is so jammed together.

For such an important property, incredible shortsighted by Universal. Let’s hope Orlando gives it the space it needs.

If it was twice the size it would have been one of my favorite theme park lands ever - and I couldn’t care less about Mario or Nintendo.
I think that is the point if you look at the Japanese version. It is very compact there too and they have a Yoshi people mover thing in there too.

The Texas park is still a park. Personally. I think the Vegas project is an interesting experiment, but I don’t think it’s worth being a reason to change the division’s name to something that sounds less focused and more bland and vague. And corporate.

However, if they’re doing this to let Disney know they’re coming, I’m all for it. 😃 The new ad campaign “It’s More Than Magic… It’s Real” is awesome. Sure, it’s silly to claim Universal’s fantasy worlds aren’t “make believe,” but the way the narrator snarkily says “It’s more than ‘maaaagic’” at the end is a perfect dig at the competition. 😄

I was at IOA today. Perfect weather. Hagrid’s was in top form and it looks like the Big Skrewt got a snazzy new paint job.

This was one of my favorite sights:

It wouldn’t be the same to buy just one; it’s seeing all of them together that’s so perfectly in character for the IP. 😄 If they stop selling this plushie, they need to keep a glass case full of them as a permanent display.

I went to Super Nintendo World last week. Here are some of my thoughts!

The land’s atmosphere is absolutely phenomenal and world-class (even with the non-solid paneling unlike USJ).

Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge is easily a top 10 ride worldwide.

The land’s too small for how good it is.

And the park as a whole is criminally underrated. It’s a step-up from Universal Studios Florida, but still behind Islands of Adventure for me!

Well it was sold out when I went Friday, so I don't know how "underrated" we're talking about here, hahaha.

Honestly, replace Kung Fu Panda and Despicable Me with two dark rides on the same level as Secret Life of Pets (they don't even have to change the property, just make them quality dark rides), and the park would own and be as competitive as any park in the US.

Love reading through all the comments on here! My kids and I are headed to USH in a couple weeks. I haven't been since the 90s and my kids have never been. While my kids are really excited for SNW, I am giddy about riding the Studio Tour again!! We've been to USO and IOA, and I'm sure it will feel a bit weird without Diagon Alley and the rest of Hogsmeade, but there's so much else to experience that I'm sure we'll get over it pretty quick ;);)

1st Question for the group: if we have to make a choice between sharing a Lard's Lads Pink Donut or making a stop at Voodoo Donuts, which should we choose?

2nd Question for the group: If we only have that day, is Toothsome's worth a visit or do we skip?

Question 1: whatever line is shorter. They really aren't that great.

Question 2: If you like BJ's type restaurant, it might be fun. Otherwise there are far superior places to eat nearby.

1. I enjoyed both, but Voodoo will be cheaper and have more variety. I also had a bit of a reality check after I bought a Lard Lad donut in Orlando that I would have to carry around a huge donut box until I finished it, which as a solo traveler was certainly not going to happen that day. Potentially not an issue if you're family's going to eat most of it at once, but worth considering-it's a big box to carry around.
2. I haven't done Toothsome's in Hollywood, but I have in Orlando. I enjoyed it, but I wouldn't say that you're missing something incredible if you skip it. It's really up to you. I would say, however, that as a general rule Citywalk has better food than the park does.

Universal Orlando news: IOA’s Poisedon’s Fury closes forever May 10th to make way for future additions.

Mixed feelings, here. While the attraction is unique and fun, it’s not good enough to justify the amount of space it takes up. But… man, I’m going to miss the exterior.

I just really, really, really hope the replacement is a big dark ride that everyone can experience. IOA needs another one, and Epic Universe will be debuting with five or six coasters, so I think IOA can safely focus on non-coaster additions for now.

I’m really going to miss this attraction! But I knew it wouldn’t be much longer until they retired it. It always put a smile on my face & what I love about themeparks. Gorgeous building full of adventure and & campiness, hopefully the replacement will be take that to the next level.

Have you seen the Super Mario movie yet? Thoughts?
Not yet. Although I love the FL area I’m currently living in, there are no movie theaters close by, and the nearest *good* ones are an hour away at Citywalk and Disney Springs. So it might be a week or two before I can get there. I’m looking forward to it very, very much. Already bought the soundtrack!

While trying to avoid too many spoilers, I think I’ve pieced together from reactions and reviews I trust (including your observations) what to expect going in: A fun, entertaining romp through the Mario universe with a thin plot (I mean… what did critics expect—- it’s Mario :D), and tons of Easter eggs and references to the games.

I’m a huge fan of the Mario games. I’m on my third play-through of Odyssey (and I’ve replayed its final battle/escape sequence dozens of times just for the sheer joy and insane creativity of it) and still play Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Smash Ultimate on a weekly basis. I cannot imagine, from what I’ve seen from the trailers (and many viewings of Jack Black’s Bowser singing “Peaches”) any way I could not have a good time with this movie. :D I cannot wait!
