All-star sports or music?

I'm planning a short trip for March, trying to decide between these two. We have stayed at Pop twice, POFQ once, and we are staying at AKL at Christmas. I have read that sports has a better bus situation? Just wanted to see if anyone had any opinions on whether one is better than the other! Thanks in advance!

I've stayed at Sports once - fine for a place to sleep at... It's the best bus situation b/c Sports is the first one on the right as you drive in to All Stars.

After my past stay at Pop this fall, I'd rather stay there (Pop) to take advantage of walking over to Art of A. for the food court there.

The All-Stars share busses. I personally prefer the POP bus situation to the All-Stars, If I had to choose one I would go to All-Star Sports because the busses pick up there first. If you stay at All-Star Music the busses may be partially full when they arrive.

Thanks for the input!! I think I will ultimately like pop better too, but we are trying out the all-stars just to see how they are, and to save a little money.

Thanks for the info on the buses! I think we will probably choose sports for this reason.

Hello...maybe i can offer some insights.
I consider All Star Music my *apartment* when i am at WDW. I have stayed there almost every time i have visited WDW and love it. Basic and clean, simple yet fun...it fits like a glove for me. I spend all of my time in the Parks when i am visiting WDW so i do not feel a need to stay at any of the fancier places. All Star Music rocks.

So why is it my first choice..and a favorite you may ask?

Well for me, there are several reasons. These i have noticed from observation, and others from experience where i learned a few beneficial tricks.

First, i like it because it is almost always the least expensive choice when it comes to Disney Resorts. It may be one of the oldest Values but i like the theming. All i really need is a bed and a shower...and this fits perfectly for me.

The other reason i like it is that of all the Values, it is usually the least crowded. Most families tend to choose Movies or Sports over Music, mainly for the theme. Also, as noted by Disney themselves in various travel guides, the concentration of families with kids, and kids in general, is much lower at Music when compared to Sports and Movies. Again, that is primarily because most families with kids would rather stay at a hotel with Toy Story and Dalmations themes then generic music icons. All Star Sports tends to get fllled up with tour groups, visting high school bands/sports teams, and other large groups throughout the school year. So Movies draws the kiddies and young parents, and Sport tends to draw the jocks and highschoolers.

Many Guests prefer staying at the newer Value Resorts like Pop Century, but the size and bus situation there turns me off...plus, you are literally out in the middle of nowhere in my opinion. It is just not attractive to me...but i know it has a loyal following.

Another big advantage i see in staying at the All Star Resorts is that you have more bus options during Park Close. When a Park closes, and everyone rushes out in masses to stand in huge lines waiting to board a bus back to your Resort..you know the scene. After a full day at the Park..you are pooped...and anxious to get back to your hotel and crash for the night. If you stay at any other Value, your option is to wait in line for ONE bus at a time. With the All Stars, you have THREE options in many cases. All three All Star Resorts are connected together via a parking lot...so you can take any bus to Sports or Movies and walk a couple of minutes to Music. This stragety has saved me many times from standing forever in bus lines post-Park close. Hop the first one that arrives and just walk it. Try doing that at Pop or Art of A....ha! Of course...things may have changed now...this only works if all three All Stars have seperate buses, which in the past i have seen during Park Close. Take it with a grain of salt...but it is worth mentioning.

The only downside i see staying at All Star Music is the food court. It needs to be freshened up a little decor-wise. When i do need to grab a meal at my hotel, i now just walk over to Movies as i love their themed food court. Well worth the walk...and they serve the same menu, just with a more appealing visual zing.

Hope this helps!
Have a fantastic visit!

I prefer Music to Sports because it was a lot quieter, and I like the theming better. It has some really pretty spots and doesn't seem to be as crowded. It's definitely my favorite All-Star.

I would choose Sports and use which bus showed up first at park closing. Only drawback is if you take a Movies bus, you will have to walk thru Music before you get to Sports. I see you have stayed at Pop on prior trips and would advise you to stay there again. We have used all the Values (except AoA) and hands down prefer Pop. I get it if you want to try something new, but not sure it will save you $$?

We will be at Pop this December and will take buses back to AoA to give the place a thorough checking out. Have heard great reviews about the food court.

Thanks for the detailed reply!!! You made me feel much better about trying out the all-stars! We decided on Sports because of the buses, and my husband like the theme slightly better than music. Neither theme is particularly appealing to me, so I'm good with that. Thanks again for all the info!!

Thanks for your input! We chose sports, hopefully we won't regret it due to noise. But we are usually up pretty early and out really late, so hopefully the noisemakers will be in bed when we get back :)

They're both the same to me, outside of the theming. Do you prefer movies or sports? If movies than stay at the All star movies, and vice versa

Thanks! Staying at sports or music saved us about $100 over staying at pop. Not that much money, but we are going 3 times in the next 6 months, so this particular trip we wanted to go with the cheapest room possible! It's also a fairly short trip, so if we hate the resort, we won't be stuck there too long :) we definitely want to try AoA in the future, maybe for our may trip!

That's what it seems like to me, too. I don't care for the theming of either one, but with sports having the slight bus advantage, we decided to go with that.

This really helps me for my trip planning for July of 2013, we were thinking , but after reading this comment it makes me change my mind a little bit. I stayed at POP last trip and liked it but like you said, though it only travels to POP, we were waiting on one bus from each park. I do like the idea of the All Star resorts which is why we are gonna stay in one in July.

Sports is a great resort so no worries! We stayed in the baseball section and really like the theming plus it had it's own pool and the alundry was close by. I think you will be happy staying there.

It's a mistake to select an All-Star resort because of the bus service.
The bus service to all three All-Star resorts is the same.
Sports doesn't have an advantage just because it's first.

HOWEVER, it's the first drop off when you are standing on an overcrowded bus.

HOWEVER, only one, AK, of the park's buses stops at all three All-Star resorts at closing time.
MK buses are separate all the time.
DHS and Epcot have separate buses at closing time and AK to All-Stars is such a short ride that it doesn't matter.

My pleasure to offer some insights based on my own personal experiences staying at All Star Music. I love it, mainly because it suits my few needs like a tight glove. :)

The bus situation is a lot more appealing when you consider you will have three bus options compared to just one. Like i said in my earlier post, it has saved my butt many times during some Park exits.

If you stay at the All Stars, take some time to explore the other Resorts literally 'right next door'. Check out the nicer Food Court at ASMovies and look over the grounds at Sports. It is fun if you have the time to get off at one of these other Resorts and explore...of course the same goes without saying of any of the Disney Resorts ( exspecially the Poly! ).

Have fun planning your visit !

:)
