All Star Movie room request and grocery help

We are going to All Star Movies in two weeks, a few questions.

We are renting a car, mainly because we have 3 young children and really don't want to be a the mercy of the buses.

Anyway, we want to pick up a few things (diapers, wipes, milk, snacks, etc) on the way from the airport. Which grocery store would you recommend, where do the locals shop that would be somewhere on the way to the hotel?

And second, I've heard the resort is quite spread out, we stayed at CS last time and it was really spread out too. If we are making a room request, is there a certain area that would be closer to the parking lots? I know the kids would love Toy Story or 101 Dalmations, but realistically we probably won't spend much time at the hotel. I know they will probably crash in the car on the way back from the parks and really don't want to have to carry the dead weight too far. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

CSR is set around a lake - that is SPREAD OUT. Movies is no where near that.

You should be able to park fairly close to your building, no matter which one it is.

Is there a certain location on the way from the airport and do you need a special card to get anything on sale? We don't have Publix here.

None of those Publix are all that closed to OIA and or Disney property.

If staying at All-Stars - the closest one is going to be on 192.

Going from OIA, take 417 to Osceola Parkway. Stay on Osceola Parkway past AK, heading to AKL. Turn left at the light onto Sherberth Road. Stay on it until 192 (by McDonalds. Turn right at the light to get on 192 west going toward Clermont.

You'll have several lights to go through. There will be a big intersection right before you get to the 429 toll road junction. To the left there will be an Olive Garden and Longhorn Steakhouse and a Super Target. Turn right into that shopping complex and there will be a Publix.

If you keep going down 192 about 4 more miles, there will be a better Publix. It's right at the 192/27 interchange.

Also keep in mind that standard rooms at Movies are the Mighty Ducks and Love Bug buildings. Toy Story, Dalmatains, and Fantasia are all preferred rooms.

Actually that is not the closest one or the one on your way to All-Star. Since you are already on the Beeline(528) you should stay on it until you get to John Young Parkway or cont. to International Drive. You will need to go towards Sea World and turn left onto Central Florida Parkway from International Drive. If you take the John Young Parkway you'll want to again go towards Sea World and take a right onto Cent. Fl Prkwy. There is a Publix there on the right. I know, I used to shop there since I lived about a block away. There is also a great sub/pizza shop in the same shopping mall that has great food. It's called Subs Plus. I would stay away from 417 and 192. You will have to use toll again on 417 and 192 is out of the way to the resort and more traffic.

Hope this helps. If you need any further assistance with directions you can mapquest the address or you can pm me and will gladly help you in any way I can!

I hope you have a wonderful trip!

why not just use gardengrocer.com for your needs? Been using them last few trips and its great! Can get most anything delivered and its a flat $12 fee (i believe). The $12 is probably well worth the time you save by not having to stop off anywhere.

The great thing about it is that you order online and pick when you want it delivered to your hotel. They call about an hour before the actual delivery to confirm. I had it all brought to my room by a bellhop when it got delivered last time. Don't know if that policy has changed at all.

I would also recommend Publix, they are the best grocery store ever. I don't live there, so I can't tell you what the closest one is.

Also, we stayed at ASMo last year and I didn't think it was that spread out at all. We paid for a preferred room and it really wasn't all that much closer than the non-preferred rooms.

If you use a grocery delivery - update, the resorts have added a $5 receive fee if they have to receive and store before you arrive.

On the closest buildings - you have parking all the way around the resort. I'd pick one toward the back, close to parking.

However, if you want close to the main pool, food court and buses as well you need to be close to the front. 101 and Toy Story are both close to the front and Fantasia has the preferred upcharge rooms (but remember this will up your noise from the pool area if you are trying to get little ones to sleep - it's hard if they hear others having fun).

I'd never ever ever take 528 when trying to get to WDW from the airport. I've been in enough traffic jams on the Beachline and I-4 to avoid it at all costs.

Getting on and off the Beachline at JYP is a massive headache. Traffic on I-Drive is a nightmare as well around CFP and I-Drive.

I used to live 5 minutes from both of the Publix on 192. Traffic might get bad, but it's no where like JYP or CFP or I-Drive.

I don't remember what section I stayed in last time, but I'm pretty sure it was dalmations, what i like about being on that side of the resort is it is a short and quick walk to the movies, we ended up using their buses a few times b/c it was a quicker walk than our bus stop was. (and the bus stops at music before movies anyways...worked out great for us)

People have already talked about the grocery stores, so I'll just make a mention about All-Star Movies...

Here's a link to the map of the resort on AllEars:
http://allears.net/acc/asmoviesmap.jpg

As others said, there is parking convenient to all buildings (though the lot for Fantasia 8 looks rather small). One thing to point out is that many rooms in the Mighty Ducks buildings are actually closer to the *Music* food court and bus stops than they are to Movies'. (Heck, the Mighty Ducks buildings are closer than 80% of Music's own buildings)

Just something to keep in mind in case you end up in those buildings.

Fantasia 8 must have been where we were b/c the lot for our section was so small we could never get parking there and had to use the parking for the next building.

There are also quite a few handicapped spaces in the square lot for building 8. The larger rectangular lot between 7 and 8 is classified as building 7 and 8 parking. Love Bug parking is normally directed to the large lot.

Thanks for all of your help. I posted this question on another board and got just one response, I know where to go for help now. I appreciate it!

No need for delivery, we have the car so its no big deal and would just be easier doing it ourselves and letting my older son go in and pick out a few goodies too. To some $20 to have someone else get your groceries might be more convenient, so I can understand the suggestion. If I didn't have a car, I probably would just do the delivery.

I will be going to Publix....which one, will have to read what you are saying again to see what makes the most sense, but I don't know the traffic, etc. So will just have to take your word for it.

The rooms, it sounds like its just the luck of the draw when I enter the parking lot. We don't need to catch the bus, perhaps the people that all request to use the bus won't have cars sitting in the parking lot making it easier for a spot...not sure.

Will request a parking lot view....boring, but it is quieter, especially when trying to get the 2 1/2 year old twins to sleep that has to be a plus for us and if we do get lucky and they crash in the car, less of a walk. Already requested 1st floor...as one of them is deathly afraid of elevators, lol!

Thanks again!
