None of the downtimes appears to be due to maintenance issues. From the things I've heard Splash probably was some sort of medical issue and Space was about someone trying to get out of the ride on the hoist incline.

The lap bars on Splash were not about 'skipping proper refurb'. They were because of the number of people who did things like standing up and trying to change seats, getting out of the log and trying to leave via emergency exits, and trying to stand on the large drop, among others. There were lots of incidents like that causing operators to shut down the ride and it can take a lot of time to restart.

Not every stoppage is maintenance related, in fact they are the minority by far. Safety stoppages are the biggest.

Exactly! Martin.. read this post three timnes over.. it had NOTHING to do with maintenance... I personally saw RCID EMS roll into the back of the park behind splash mountain, with lights/ sirens... don't be so quick to judge TDO for something you don't know anything about.... I wouldn't expect anything less from the boardwhore club though..

Yeah this really is a very normal thing for Splash and Space mountain. Splash always people trying to get out and do other stupid thing. And space has a very temperamental computer system that will E-stop the ride if it takes too long for people to board or unload, ex. handicap load and unloads usually cause e-stops, just because of the programing on the computer work. Plus if one side goes down they both have to go down, unfortunately.

Its not the end of the world, they get them back up as soon as they can, its usually no more than 30 min.

Maintenance is not the issue. For being a 35 year old roller coaster and a 20 year old log flume ride that has to run for 14+hours a day, 365 days a year, they work very well.

if you knew WHY they were both down, you would realize that it had nothing ot do with maintenance. You can't control guests as much as we would like to.

Did I mention maintenance? I did not.

I was told off boards by an inpark CM Friend it closed for just under 5 hours and failed again as the 2nd loaded log was dispatched.

using last week for example it happened 3 times that I know of
That is not an excuse.

Exactly.

If all three mountains being down simultaneously happens "fairly regularly," I'd say that Disney is facing a pretty hard core problem.

Also, the Potter ferry wasn't running, so guests arriving at the TTC and intending to take a boat to MK were looking at a 45 minute wait.

I agree.

rides go do in any park, and place in the world.. and shockingly it can happen AT THE SAME TIME!

OMG OMG OMG OMG!

nothing to see here, just more panic over typical daily ride operations

It SHOULDN'T happen at the same time, especially if this is routine as has been explained.

Um.. thunder is closed for referb..
Thank you Captain Obvious.

Not if I drove them for 12+ hours a day.
But they're built for that kind of use....what's your point?

"Splash Mountain has still not been fixed. Check where your mechanics are, or consider hiring more mechanics."

Just because Reedy Creek was there doesn't it was a medical problem either. It could have been a problem with the ride and they had to evacuate the guests and one of the guests was handicapped or used a wheelchair and Reedy Creek are the only ones authorized to help handicapped guests off a ride.

I missed that bit. You calling me a ?

you guys (you,lee,71) all seem to have a problem with the disney bloggers and 'fan bois' that have podcasts, websites and get treated nicely by disney.. The so-called disney 'Whores' as it has been stated... so... since everyone treats you with the same appreciation on the boards/forums.. whats the difference? Your 'Clique' calls them whores, so isn't turnabout fair play here?

And for the record, I have no desire to be 'in that clique'... It's filled with anti-progressive, TDO-hating, adventurers club fai bois on a mission to cause nothing but derision for themselves from Disney as a whole..

Perhaps you aren't nearly the problem in this regard as others.. call it guilt by association... or maybe I'm just PMSing....

The point being, is that if Splash was down for 6 hours , you say it's poor maintenance, and refurb..

If Splash was down for 6 hours 2 weeks after rehab, you say they did a crappy job of rehabbing it..

and finally, if Splash runs for 24/7 for 6 months straight.. The complaints will flood in because they haven't rehabbed it and it really needs it, yada yada yada..

In other words, you (meaning the clique) cannot be pleased.. EVER.. and the constant naysaying and 'I knew this would happen' horse-pucky gets old.. REALLY old afte rmonths and years of reading the same crap..

The truth is, that we live in a society where the negative nellys get the biggest soap box, because EVERYONE loves drama... Well.. there is no drama to be had on aroutine closure of an attraction.. It happens EVERY DAY.. it's happening RIGHT NOW.. And for what it's worth.. Space mountain was closed for 30 mins on this day... 30 MINUTES, thats it..

And if some 19 year old jack-wagon hadn't done something stupid while on the attraction, it wouldn't have been down at ALL..

I'd definately take the "if you don't like it, get a job there and fix it" stand poibut alas, I'm sure that would get struck down.. It's much like the thread where people are criticizing the ceiling in Be our Guest.. Even Steve went after someone for saying that it was possible to fix acoustic issues within the restaurant, etc.. He's not an acoustical engineer, and has NO IDEA what he's talknig about..

Sometimes I just want to light an entire mountain of soap-boxes on fire..

I see.

I have no problem with website hosts, fan site hosts, bloggers etc etc.

Indeed, a lot of my friends in greater Orlando are these very people. So please get your facts right.

Yes, some people are treated very nicely by the company and those who work for it. As have I on numerous occasions.

And since you grouped me with another 'group' on the web, some more facts.

I've only been in The Adventurers Club twice. Ever. Nice place.

I don't hate TDO. I congratulate them where I see fit. It just so happens it isn't every day.

I love WDW. I must do to be spending $x k again this year to visit. I hate shoddy upkeep and a watering down of the high standards that the company held itself to. I hope my passion and love comes out in my video work. I love the resort so much I hate what's happening to it. And it's that love/hate that comes out in my online posts.

I've already posted what I heard about Splash Mountain, from whom I consider a reliable source. It's not as if I go posting wild stories. Anything I do post I believe has an element of truth to it. It just so happens that a lot of it is what I consider to be bad news. But go through my posts (I understand if you don't!) and you'll see I have given credit where credits due.

But don't you dare label me with the whores on a mission, as you described them above. Okay?

Or of you do, let's take it to the PM. This isn't the place.

People hate TDO because they sit on there hands and watch a watered down product continue. Good for you that you can turn a blind eye to the show problems littered throughout the Magic Kingdom, some people respect and yearn for the quality of the past.

For the record, Splash Mountain looks like crap. I haven't sat in a log and seen every effect working, in at least 5 years. How you can defend an attraction that is in such disrepair but attack the people who want it fixed is deplorable.

I would have expected someone with a name like wdw71fan, you would understand how park maintance, ops, even custodial, used to be ran better and kept the Magic Kingdom in working condition.

I will probably get slammed for this, and I really don't care but, I feel several of you have gotten a bit outta hand here. I have followed this board for many years, and the op was simply making a statement. I thought that was what this was for, to inform those of us that have a love of Disney what is happening as they know it. So we may feel a little closer to the magic. All of the rude comments and name calling are completely unnecessary. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and you can share it, but please don't slam on someone else to do it.

I perhaps should respond to the post above that brought me into this, but I will refrain.
It paints such an inaccurate and uninformed picture that it would take up the rest of my afternoon to adequately reply.

So...moving on...
