Funny to see this thread and thinking 100 million was a big deal!

Anyway, a new record has been set by the mouse house. The first studio ever to have 2 movies break the 1 BILLION Dollar :drevil: mark in the same year. I guess the weatherman....er I mean Iger may know what he is doing afterall.

Of course the proof will be in if he either fixes ABC and it's pathetic news division or just jettisons the entire mess before it damages the company any further.

I say scuttle it.

Disney still has its hits and its misses. I mean, Alice and Toy Story have been unbelievable, but POP and SA were huge disappointments at the box office. Still, they seem to be moving in a good direction and I hope we have an even better year next year with Pirates 4 leading the way.

I do think Disney is trying to hard to make and extra dollar though. I'm not sure changing to Rapunzel to Tangled was a wise decision. The response to the trailers has been very negative from what I've heard and witnessed at my local theater.

The big thing is Disney needs to quit spending $200 million on every single movie that comes out. They're the only studio that does that. Each Lord of the Rings movie was made under $100 million and look at the quality. I can understand Pirates being at $200 million, but I just don't get why Disney spent so much on SA. It was too much for an unestablished film.

I'm still struggling with HOW Alice made this much money...the film was kind of terrible.

Very poor CG rendering work.

A filmsy script.

A weak leading lady.

One of Depp's worst performances (outside of Wonka)

I'd say the film was at lease decent eye candy but I don't even think it rates that compliment.

Obviously you are not in touch with what modern audiences want. Alice worked for the same reason The Dark Knight worked. But I might as well be speaking greek or latin.

Oh yeah...

There is no way on God's green Earth you are compairing Burton's Alice to Nolan's Dark Knight.

One was a very well crafted, scripted and performed narrative. Character driven while at the same time delving into action and espionage.

The other was Alice in Wonderland. A snooze fest that if not for the 3-D selling point would've been just another lack luster film. Just like AVATAR.

You forgot that they both made over 1 BILLION dollars :drevil: at the box office.

And I know exactly why. :zipit:

I don't disagree with your characterizations totally but there is a thread that ties the two films together. And that is why they both did so well.
