Alcohol at the parks

Neverwhere

I think most people can handle a drink or two. I personally enjoy having a glass of wine in the World Showcase, or a mixed drink.

I think as long as WDW maintains the right to kick out people who can't control themselves, there is no problem.

I'm a little perplexed by this thread -- but then again we have people of many different ages and backgrounds in the forums.

1) Adults expect to be able to get alcoholic beverages in theme parks - Europeans expect to be able to get it anywhere. In fact Disneyland Resort Paris has served alcohol since almost day one (some of us might remember that people boycotted the park when they originally did not allow smoking and did not sell alcohol...Disney adapted to the local culture within weeks).

2) The 8 dollars or 10 dollars a drink does NOT stop the average heavy drinker from spending that much on drinks, as any of you who have gone to a major league baseball game would know.

3) Security is indeed responsible for removing people who imbibe too heavily at WDW, as they are at any other establishment.

4) Individuals are responsible for drinking in moderation -- still -- it is a pretty well known "sport" for some adults to "Drink around the world" in World Showcase.

5) Alcohol is readily available at all of the resorts - watch the queue line about 7 pm at your resort comissary and you will find that alcohol is heavily purchased - from beer to aldohol.

6) How many of us haven't suffered through the college drunk crowd at Haunted Mansion during the spring break period -- and they did NOT purchase that alcohol in the park.

7) Disney is, ultimately, a company that will cash in where they can. I understand Walt himself had something to do with the rules about no alcohol in the Magic Kingdom and Disneyland - although I don't expect that to last much longer. Alcohol sales bring in absolutely huge profits. Wines at Bistro de Paris start at 60 dollars and up a bottle.

8) This is not the prohibition. Note: I don't drink at all, except for the occasional glass of wine at the holidays with my family (I am also in my mid-40's so I am well beyond legal drinking age). Still, I fully appreciate ones right to have an alcoholic beverage when they choose, and WDW is certainly no exception.

9) The parks at this point are not that concerned about people of-age drinking. They are much more concerned about the under-age folks drinking, and that is who they primarily keep an eye on.

I don't see any problems with serving alcohol. I'm glad it's not served at MK, but really don't mind it being served at all the other parks. I'm hoping to drink around world showcase when I go in a few months.

Drinking around the world is one of the best things to do at World Showcase. Not just cause you can get drunk but to taste the different wines/beers/liquors from other countries. Being a former CP, getting a group together and going around the world can be a blast.

When Epcot first opened, you could only get a drink in the full service restaurants. I remember my dad grumbling a little bit because he wanted a nice, cold, beer but we also had to order a meal, which he really didn't want at that point. (It was around 3 in the afternoon)

I don't mind drinks being sold at the counter service restaurants, but even I (someone who is known to enjoy an adult beverage) am put off by the carts selling beer. I appreciate being able to have wine/beer tastings in the shops in Epcot all year, and especially enjoy the Food and Wine Festival.

I don't think the lack of alcohol in MK is a big deal; we always have dinner at Epcot or a resort anyway.

i really have a problem with it being sold anywhere but at the sit down restaurants because yes there is security to remove people at the parks but why even let it go to that extreme to have the security people intervene to remove a person cause i know that i never want to see it and especially at disney

i associate drunk people with bars and i dont want disney to begin to become the place where kids use their imagination and the parents are drunk

when my friend went back to Disney World during christmas she saw in the Backlot Express, and many other food places, beer and other alcohol

i can understand at say the Hollywood Brown Derby having wine or something but beer at the fast food places is ridiculous!

what do you people think

I think Disney caters to what people want. They do not offer alcohol in the MK, which is fine, but, since the vast majority of people can ahndle their alcohol, I see nothing wrong with it.

Not to be mean, but, how old are you? This is such a gross assumption that people who drink alcohol are all going to become drunk.

Getting a beer at a cart versus getting a beer in a restaurant makes completely no difference.

It sounds like you have personal issues with alcohol, and feel entitled to an alcohol-free environment.

There is a big difference between having a few drinks and being drunk. There are not a lot of drunks at WDW, although, just like people with physical abnormalities, they stick out, as they are the minority.

and the reason for my point of view is that human nature is to blow things out of proportion and the saying give them an inch andthey'll take a mile that is true here i think cause many people like to use things to the greatest extent they can and i just really dont see a need for alcohol in the first place it really has never done anything good for humans ever
