Al Lutz -- Fantasyland budget cuts

Try getting Tink's autograph at about 1:00 PM on a Saturday and your opinion will change.

While I was there all of the Toon Town M&G's had roughly the same wait. Again Tink is popular but the rest of the Fairy franchise and characters are not. PH is based off of the failing franchise and should not be built to the scale in the drawings. Build what they have in DL and then use the space for something else.

And I am hoping that it will continue....:fork:
As do I.

It was great to see the fanbase mobilize in a constructive, effective manner.

While the reaction was heated, it never really got nasty towards Disney. More importantly, there were accounts of people cancelling their trips, which is probably what TDO listened to more than any catchy titled observations...:lookaroun

If I had been down there, we would have stopped by guest relations as well. The wife and I have made trips just to see decorations. Removing decorations directly affects our decision to go.

Back on topic though, we are still so early in this process, I wouldn't be surprised if money is being moved in and out of the budget on an almost daily basis. I know it happens at my job quite often.

The scenery might be based of of a failing franchise but it will contain one of Disney's most popular characters. That is all it will take to make PH successful. Aurora is less popular than Tink and I don't hear you complaining about her meet n greet.

I'm not sure we can draw the conclusion that PH is failing until we have financial results in front of us.

Your store may not be representative of the big picture.

If anything WDW is a better representative sample of the population than a singluar Disney Store.

I agree, and though I do not wish for more cutbacks, I do hope that there will be more instances where the fanbase does have a impact on TDO's business blund- I mean, practices. :D

And on the budget...That's why I'm not getting worried...yet. But the news of DL looking at another E-Tic DOES make me a tad angry.

Thats a good point.

I wouldn't mind if they cut Pixi hollow. Its easily my least favourite part of the FL expansion plan. Plus believe me when I say the pixi franchise will not be relevent in ten years time and the area will feel awkward and out of place.

And I wish they weren't getting rid of toon town. We deserve one like the one in DL.

Well, Putz, errr, Lutz (I've GOT to stop doing that) stated that the budget cutbacks were basically for the PH attraction, and nothing else. So, I can live with that. But I also agree the very fact that MK is already losing ground in the FL expansion while discussion of even more rides and attractions is taking place is more than infuriating....

Do you mean he has subsequently stated/clarified that, or he stated that in the article? Because he most definitely did not state that in the article.

He referred to the dark Pixie ride as having not taken off like TDA had hoped, and how that the WDW budget for that ride had been "slashed and burned" from the FL expansion budget....

I still bet that this is much ado about nothing. Budgets trim fat. PH is most likely still there seeing that it was featured pretty well in the D23 Presentation.

Not just my store company wide at TDS its a failure. But that doesn't mean they shouldn't build a Tink M&G. IMO WDW doesn't need anything beyond what they have in DL.

Yes imo when it is for something that is not needed and the money could go to something better.

The thing about that statement is that TDO never put the money to something better. They just cut it and forgot about it. The Space Mountain refurb was cut, and tell me one thing, where exactly did the money go to? Nowhere. They are just taking advantage of the fact that WDW has more attendance from tourists and not so much from die-hard fans like us. I have acquired a bitterness to all WDW Management. They are a bunch of liars, bankers, and money-suckers who just want money, they are slowly losing the Walt style of managing a park. Let me ask one thing, if WDW is the resort that obtains the most money and attendance out of ALL the theme parks in the entire planet, then why not use it!? And if they do, why not use it for something useful instead of crappy things!?! Why not invest a few bucks from the billions of dollars they have to at least give us a new parade? Or a better Space Mountain refurb, or a full-fledged (NON-MARKETED!) Fantasyland Refurb and Expansion. Why not at least refurbish some attractions that are growing stale and old? And that was just the MK. TDO better turn it around, one day, and I'm sure of it, one day, their fan community will be angered by something they did and it will not be pretty, and maybe that'll knock some sense into them, but until then, they will never learn...

I agree but TDA used to be just as bad, so there is hope that things can change.

Here's his quote, emphasis mine:

"and the budget for the WDW version of that ride has been slashed and burned as part of Team Disney Orlando's retrenchment on their recently scaled back Fantasyland expansion."

I read that as more than Tink being cut.

TDO would be stupid to scale back after the D23 presentation- especially after it surprisingly ended up in MANY newspapers and TV- not to mention the Interwebz. But you never know, TDO doesn't have the best track record- I just don't think they're THAT stupid to release the expansion before all cuts are made.
