Al Lutz -- Fantasyland budget cuts

The problem I have with Al Putz, errr, Lutz is that his information in the end is usually accurate. Now I suppose it's just a matter of degree to which attractions are scaled back or taken out altogether.

Another fine example of Disney and TDO promising nothing but the best for WDW and its fans, but falling short in the end. Here's to hoping for a still-solid FL expansion.

 Cutting capacity and spending is a good idea to you? Wow, that's dull, I'm sorry. Investment is investment. And I wouldn't comment on the subject matter, seeing that you have no idea how it was going to be presented. I'm no Tink Fan, but I am pretty sure this was going to be technically amazing.

I'm not a Tink fan either. And why am I not aloud to assume its going to be bad (even though I never even said this) and you're allowed to think it'll be a technological achievement? Everyone's entitled to thier own opinions, man. Don't get so worked up over it.

The concept of the ride doesn't impress me. The money should go elsewhere in my opinion. Keyword, in my opinion.

If the cut is PH that is great news PH is a waste of time and like the OP said the Pixie franchise while not a failure hardly sells. You should see all the fairy crap at TDS. The Tink stuff sells then we get stuck with the rest of the fairies.

They should put a small Tink meet and greet or PH like in DL then put in a new DR like ALice!!!!

I don't know where you have been, but the DLR PH is very popular and has been known to have long wait times. I don't care for the franchise either but I don't have temper tantrum over it. :p Anyways I would rather see a Alice in Wonderland ride, or add the Beauty and the Beast Tiki room style show planned for Disneyland Paris.

I bet it will be gorgeous like DL's, but imo if they had to cut anything in the expansion- they picked the right thing to cut- Tinkerbell dark ride.

I think Lasseter and Baxter need to walk through the world a few days.

I still think new blood is coming to TDO, but not before Disneyland is finished up with their expansion... But the land is Lasseter's baby, not the world. And it looks like his expansion is going to go on a long, long time. The only way I see things changing is if he personally gets involved here. Will that happen? I hope so. :(

Yes, the original plans have been scaled back. Some parts cut, some parts deffered to future phases. Mermaid and probably Gastons are still phase one.

Don`t have a go at TDA - it`s their budget to play with. Have a go at TDO for not knowing what a budget is.

So it sounds like the basic plotline that Al Lutz spelled out is pretty accurate. He was really talking about Disneyland and just mentioned WDW's Fantasyland cuts in passing, and only to make a point about Disneyland. But the info is now out there thanks to Al Lutz, and the damage is done.

The Fantasyland project sounds like it is being stretched out beyond the 2012-13 timeframe originally laid out at D23 Expo, with some deletions and changes along the way. Now I can understand why TDO was so ticked off about that blueprint being released last year!

The problem is TDO is not as afraid of passionate WDW Fans as TDA is afraid of passionate DL fans.
This is it exactly.

Painting in broad strokes, WDW fans will complain and complain, but still plunk down thousands of dollars a year, just a little less than last year. DL fans will complain and complain, and not renew their annual passes.

There is no financial incentive for TDO to acknowledge the WDW fan base.

On the brightside, LoW was the closest I've ever seen the WDWer acting like DLers. More of that, less metaphysical, "Epcot has no soul", would straighten things out much quicker.

You hit the nail on the head. The only thing Disney or any other business understands is money. If they keep making more by giving less that is exactly what they will do. Disney keeps cutting and cutting and we still keep coming. Our passes expire in late December of 2010 and if the trend continues US and SW will be getting my money in 2011.

Not suprised the budget is being cut. This happens all the time. Budgets have been getting cut since Walt was in charge.

The difference here is that TDO has been so bad over the past couple years that we are expecting them to screw this up. We used to not be concerned with budget cuts, it was still widely believed that they would give us something great. Now we just see the cut as one more nail in WDW's coffin. If they do find a way to make this new FL a cheap joke of a land, and not spend the saved money elsewhere, like beastly kingdom, then I will be finished with WDW. I will sell my DVC and just be done with it.

I agree, this is getting sad and hate to say it too but Al is usually right. Its high time for new management here but sadly theres no Tony Baxter or Lasseter figures (that Im aware of, well maybe Jim McPhee?) to take the helm and do something. Why cant Imagineering be in charge of WDW instead of these clueless bankers sitting behind a desk all day saying No to everything that comes along?

Watch Mermaid be a nemo lite version instead of something spectacular, and lame circus tents added to fantasyland. I wonder if the new Beasts castle resturant is still in the plans?

But, there is a new sheriff in town and he makes the decisions, not TDO!!!! TDO has no more power... remember??? (sarcasm!!!)

First of all, Al Lutz has hardly got a pure track record when it comes to this stuff. I believe he was the one who told us WDW was getting a scaled back ST2 :ROFLOL:He certainly repeated it.

Secondly, I have always boycotted the parks when they are not investing in them properly. See, I become part of the solution rather than whining and moaning as many here do but then enabling mediocrity by still going to the parks. Hi 74.

Finally, I'm waiting until the stockholders meeting to pass judgement. But if I was going and I was an investor or a WDW DVC owner I'd already be getting in line to ask some tough questions. And they had better have some good answers (I think they will :)).

Al Lutz is getting the exact reaction he wants on this forum. He's laughing at most of you.

I think we will get the last laugh however. :D

True I guess Al is getting what he wanted from us, didnt think of it that way, but it still bothers me about TDO here. Hopefully your right and maybe down the road we will end up smiling afterall.

Trust me, if they pull out a bunch of presentations about new E-Tickets at DL and investments in China and then talk about scaling back FL and nothing new for WDW, they will have a rebellion on their hands.

I'm not worried. No company would be that stupid. :lookaroun

Hopefully. :zipit:

I know we all like to blast people in accounting, but lets be realistic....if Imagineering ran the company they would be bankrupt and there wouldnt be any WDW

Hopefully it still is...I REALLY hope it was not cut.

Like I say, Disney is fine. It's WDW that needs the help.

Yes imo when it is for something that is not needed and the money could go to something better.

I could care less about the sales numbers. We are talking about an attraction in a park not an end cap in a store. There is a huge market for the meet n greet in the parks. If Disney choses to ignore guest satisfaction and short change PH because the popularity of the meet n greet does not translate to retail sales then fine....that is there choice.

The Master is right... while all the other M&Gs are popular too... PH consistently has a long wait time from the time TT opens to when it closes! I showed up at TT a couple of minutes before it was suppose to open and the PH queue was already at 75 mins!

Now maybe the popularity will fade out eventually but Tink is standing the test of time and even if the other fairies are only popular b/c of her they're still popular non the less!

I'm a fan of the new Tink myself and both my children have enjoyed the two new movies. And one of my kids is a 6 year old boy... so it's not just girls! The first thing on our list to do this year at WDW is see Tink!

On a different note... I never knew there was dark ride planned. I thought it was just a M&G and a play area!?!

All the more reasons to go to DLR! ;) but the E-Tickets for DL are just rumor at this point, until Disney officially announces them if true. DCA can't have all the love at DLR well I guess it can till Carsland

heres hoping this rumor on MK's Fantasyland are false... although part of me wouldnt be surprised if it is true :(
2013! :D

Assume and opinion all you want. I am, too. I'm just letting you know that it's unwise to bash something before you even know about it. I've made that mistake, and it's a common one. Wait until you hear about it, then, bash away. :D

The money isn't though.

As far as we know on this rumored cut that probably happened on extraneous expenses, anyway.:lol:

I just think that the demand for PH you guys speak of is not really there.
