lol. Sometimes we walk from the car/parking lot to the gate and don't even use the tram. I believe that's even farther. Ain't nothin' wrong with burning a few extra calories :p

Our last trip out my father and I had no choice, as we were pushing my grandfather's wheelchair. Especially since dad did not realize that to get to the handicap accessible parking, he had to turn right instead of left. :P

Just FYI.....the distance from the furthest bus stop to the turnstiles at MK is only 6' shorter than the same distance (furthest bus stop to turnstiles) at AK. MK comes in at 1249' AK is 1255'. By comparison Epcot has the longest possible walk at roughly 1305' and DHS comes in as the lowest at 950'

Illusions, man, illusions. Disney wants you to think that it is farther.. It's a conspiracy.

OR.....even if they sectioned off part of that walkway into a tram path and had someone drive it back and forth, even that expense would be quite low.
Remember where you are posting. You can't mention anything about walking without getting rude comments.
The poor guy who dared to want a cover at the value resort bus stops was pounded. The lady who reported the roaches was called a liar. The one who wanted better designation of where to catch the non-resort buses at AK was also blasted.
I don't know why people who say they love Disney and it's magic are so mean to people who would like to see some minor changes like a cover or new tram stop or more benches. I guarantee you, they wouldn't say the things they do to a person's face. Well, maybe they would. There's nothing wrong with differing opinions, but it could be done in a nicer way. And, if you don't have the problems some people do who would love to see these changes, then you should remember that your day may come where these things are important to you. Until you've walked in their shoes, you won't understand. Just because it hasn't happened to you, doesn't mean it hasn't happened to others.
How hard would it be to add a tram stop? There's plenty of space for a new lane by the buses. There are many, many people who have to walk a short distance then rest. Every extra step is hard for them, but they love Disney and have just as much right to be there as you who have no problem with walking long distance. It won't hurt you one bit if a cover was put up at a value or a tram was added at AK and Epcot. I can't understand the resentment toward people who have to stay in a value. We are lucky enough to be able to stay in moderates or deluxe, but I don't begrudge those who can't the right to a covered bus waiting area like we have. That should not be considered an amenity. They already have smaller less appointed rooms. I want everyone to have a magical time, not just those who can afford to pay more.
If it doesn't hurt you, why do you have to condemn someone for asking for it. To tell someone that if they have a problem with the sun or walking they have no business at Disney is rubbish. They aren't asking for anything that couldn't be helped with minor changes.
Now, I will get slammed. That's okay.
I'll be back in Disney in 30 days and no matter the inconveniences, I'll love it anyway. It'll be our first time at a value. We really wanted to be the first to stay in a room, so we booked Mermaid at AoA. Can't wait.

Actually you are a bit correct. One thing that is unique about the walk from the buses to the entrance at AK is that the path is relatively perpendicular where as the other three parks it is kind of parallel. At AK you have this straight shot to this far of destination. At the other three parks the entrance looks rather close but you have to walk parallel to it to get there. It makes the AK walk look farther when, in fact, it is really not.

Does the Mk still make you walk down to the middle (by the boat entrance) to filter through security? (I haven't been in a couple years)

If so that takes the cake for worst walk, I'd say.

If the walk to the main entrance is too long, you probably shouldn't plan on walking around the park all day.

It's like I say to kids when I lifeguard, if you're afraid to stick your head under the water, you shouldn't get in line for the diving board.

It's really hard to tell what mood the responder is in. It's impossible to hear the infraction in their voices on line. If you read a post as rude or nasty...than that is what it will be for you.

Many people, including myself, are not overboard Disney Fans. By that I mean that I feel that I am able to recognize where things are less than good and I am able to comment on it without concern that I might be saying something (gasp) against Disney. On the other hand, this is a discussion forum. When anyone, again including myself, reads something that is misleading or downright incorrect, we tend to "call" the person on it. Why? Because many new, inexperienced, people read these threads and whenever doubtful or exaggerated comments are made, I personally feel that for the benefit of those that don't know better, be told what is actually reality.

We all have our own specific angles of perception. Some based on one bad experience, others on many or still others based on good experiences. Just because any of us have perceived something a certain way, does not automatically make it right. Perspective is important to comparing things apples to apples.

What we all do is report what we see and experience or, in many cases, what we think we see and experience.

This thread has to be a joke? Right?

Like Master Yoda said the distances are not really that different and AK is not even the longest. A 1/4 mile walk to the gate in nothing compares to the 5+ miles that you will walk throughout the day.

Maybe consider renting a scooter? Like others have said, if the walk from the bus stops to the front gate is too far, then you'll have more problems once you get into the park.

If you are worried about the distance... Wdw theme parks aren't really for you. Can't walk a quarter mile? You aren't going to last and need a scooter.

If you are worried about the environment a simple solution would be to make the path a wooded one so it would be shaded and in theme.

The suggestion of moving walkways just sets the wrong expectation.

It is a hot walk and I would like to see a bit more shade, but I can live with it. I thought I saw something once that the "long" barren walk was part of the design to make the Oasis seem more lush.
