Airlines...best and worst in getting you to WDW

This is the 2nd time that our family will be traveling to WDW via Spirit Airlines. What airlines have you used in the past that you would use again or vow to never use again? If it wasn't for the free tickets we got from Spirit for overbooking our return flight home last August, we likely wouldn't be using them again.

I hear the best things about Southwest. I'd fly them if they went where I was going without me having to pay extra and make ridiculous layovers.

I usually fly Continental/United in and out of Orlando. It's cheapest. :)

Southwest. Two free bags which is awesome for all that extra disney stuff you accumulate, plus I have never had even one schedule change , also my Dad had back surgery and they are so helpful and with getting him a wheelchair and on the plane first ,they were superb. We stopped at the terminal in Dallas to drop him and the luggage while my Mom and daughter parked, he stepped out of the car with his cane and a southwest employee was there with a wheelchair before I even made it around the car.

We flew Spirit for years, and to be honest, after all their add on costs, it was WELL over what Southwest Airlines charged, so my travel agent, converted me to Southwest .... ALL the way!! We drive 40 mins to PHL to fly Southwest, and its worth it. Spirit is one of the most unrealiable airlines out there. I have heard (and seen) horrible situations (passengers didn't *buy* their seat online, and the flight was over sold) and being charged for additional luggage up to $100!!!! Absolutely Southwest!!

I have always flown Southwest, never anything else. Before two weeks ago, I had never had a problem with it. Me, my boyfriend, and my sister were flying to go to New York at 12:05. So we got there at around 10. Then later they announce that our plane is having technical problems so it was delayed until 3:05. So we were pretty bummed. Then it gets delayed until 5:05. At this point we are very annoyed, but we've already waiting so long we didn't want to leave then. THEN it gets delayed until 8:05. Let's just say that everyone on that flight was furious. It was so ridiculous. And they ended up getting a new plane in the end anyways
But usually Southwest is great. lol

We fly Spirit to MCO. We've gotten amazing deals flying them, even with the baggage fees. Every time we've flown to MCO its been $550 or less for the three of us with bags and direct flights. You just have to know their system.

We've also went to NY via Spirit and it was around $800 for 7 of us with bags.

I tend to go with whoever has the best rate out of these four carriers:
In order of favorites...

JetBlue
Delta
Airtran
American

I would never fly United and US Airways.

I enjoy JetBlue a lot....but cannot always afford them as often AirTran or American offers a better rate.
When i CAN fly them, or even Delta, it is great!

I used to fly Delta's SONG...remember that?...back when they were still in operation.
Continental Airlines was also a carrier i used a lot to and from MCO.

They were nice, but waaay back in the day it was Eastern Airlines to MCO...the 'Official Airline of Walt Disney World' !
Yeah...there i go showing my age again....
:p

There are very few airlines that serve our airport, and none of them fly direct to MCO, so we just go with whichever has the best times. If I have a choice, I prefer Delta. If I could really have my pick, I would choose JetBlue, but they don't have a presence in our airport at all.

The only airline we stay away from is Delta. The one time we flew them for a cruise they lost our luggage on the way down and when it caught up to us the bags had been opened, items stolen and all shampoos/cologne/perfume bottles had been opened and tossed back in ruining whatever contents the thieves decided they did not want. Then on the way home they stranded us for seven hours in Cincinnati because they ran out of planes. Luckily we always buy travel insurance and were covered for our financial losses but losing all of the stuff (including prescription meds) that we had packed was a huge downer and was honestly hard to recover from emotionally while on vacation.

Southwest has always been one of the best in the industry in my opinion. AirTran is fantastic as well, and has great deals right now because of their purchase by Southwest. If we can't get on either of those two, we go on JetBlue. Allegiant is a good airline to, but the fees for everything can get kind of old.

My friends returned yesterday. Nightmarish trip on Spirit Airlines. Going to WDW they sat in the airport for 4 hours due to problems with the plane. Arrived 6 hours late to WDW. Going back home, they sat in the airport for 7(!!) hours waiting on their plane that finally arrived. They have two kids under age 10. Horrible, awful report of her time in the airport. They finally got to their home at 3:00 a.m. That's awful.

Always used Continental/United until recently when I flew on Jet Blue. Never flown to MCO with JBU though until this later week. COA was all booked for the flight times I needed to be on but JBU had similar flight times available so I opted for that. I prefer traveling on United's 737s or 757s instead of Jet Blue's A320.

I only fly once, maybe twice, a year so I am not a frequent flyer. That being said, I have flown pre-merge Continental 4 times -- 3 times my lugguage got there up to a day after I did.

Since then I have flown mostly US Airways and have not had any problems . . . until my upcoming trip. They changed the flight numbers and my seat assignments and never notified me. I would never had known if my sister didn't book the "same" flight, asking to be seated near me and was told I didn't have seat assignments! What?! Then, they moved me from Row 9 to 23! I emailed a complaint about lack of notification and movement of the seats -- they responded with they don't send out changes until 45 days before the flight. And that the seats don't always correspond to the new aircraft. Again, what!? I was able to make seat changes on the website to get close to the same seats I originally had -- no help from US Airways! Now, I check weekly to make sure I don't get blindsided again.

I have one more flight with them, to use my miles, then I may be switching to SW! Better yet, Beam me down, Scottie!

I could have written this post. When we first started going to Disney we exclusively flew United because they had direct flights from our airport (CLE) to MCO. I think every time except once our flight time has been changed...and what really gets me is that they can't be bothered to email us about these changes. I just so happened to look the first time and saw the change, so after that I knew to keep looking. ...

I forgot to post about this...about 15 minute after I originally wrote this post last week I thought it might be a good idea to check on my United flight I have booked for November (going to MCO we're on Southwest connecting in BNA, but we have to have a direct flight back to CLE, which meant we had to go with United). When I originally booked the flight in May it took off at 6:11 and landed at 8:36. When I checked it last week...SHOCKER, the time had changed. Now it takes off at 5:55 and lands at 8:20. They took 16 minutes of my Disney time - booooo.

...seriously though, an email or something would have been nice.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I'm a little nervous because the flight is not very full at all, which makes me think there's a decent chance it'll get changed AGAIN.

We typically fly Southwest. I have no complaints of them. This past February we used AirTran and they were great. Seats were a little smaller than usual I think on one flight due to the older aircraft we were in but the flights were all fine along with the flight staff.

We flew Allegiant once to Sanford Airport. I wouldn't touch them with a 50' pole. I don't remember anything good at all from those two flights.

Update.

As some of you may recall, we've had quite a time (not in a good way) dealing with United on our homeward bound itinerary of our October trip. As I stated in a post on page 1 of this thread, we'd had our itinerary changed twice up to that time. Well..............make that 3 times. Went to check our itinerary over the weekend and found United has changed our flights yet again. Thankfully, this time it won't requiring any rebooking, but when will this madness end?
