Ahsoka (Star Wars Disney+ Series)

My gut is that's it's not "fatigue" as much as it just is getting too complex for casual fans. I think having to do "research" on backstory to just get what is going on might be a bridge to far for many people. Ahsoka is an odd case in that she is a very well known and liked character among even moderate fans (let alone die hards) but is virtually unknown among more casual SW watchers.

Then again some of the more stand alone Marvel shows - I'm thinking Ms. Marvel for example - haven't done as well as the connected ones so maybe I'm just wrong.

I do think Disney needs to have some non "part of a universe" stuff to put on D+ to counter balance, but they seem determined to strip away all that (e.g. recent announcements about Captain Nemo and Spiderwick Chronicles). They need to figure out their own Stranger Things, Ted Lasso, etc show.
I love Filoni’s stuff. He’s terrific. That said, I also can acknowledge he really really likes the mystical Force stuff. Heck, his big ending for Rebels was to have Ezra and Thrawn spirited away by hyperspace whales. Again, I appreciated and enjoyed the series tremendously. But that kind of thing is not generally appreciated by a broad audience.

"Lucasfilm and The Walt Disney Company are thrilled and humbled to announce that Part One of Ahsoka, "Master and Apprentice," was the most-watched title on Disney+ this past week. The debut episode garnered 14 million views, making the series number one globally on the streaming platform.

“Ahsoka has become a fan favorite with people of all ages and it’s wonderful to see her continue to resonate with viewers in her very own headlining series,” says Kathleen Kennedy, Lucasfilm president. “I want to recognize the fantastic work done by our creative team, led by Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau, the incredible cast led by Rosario Dawson, and our talented crew — and on behalf of the team and all of Lucasfilm, we give our thanks to all the fans who have been with Ahsoka on every step of her journey and to all those who are just learning about her now in Ahsoka on Disney+.”

New episodes of Ahsoka arrive every Tuesday at 6 p.m. PT., only on Disney+."

Can someone remind me why Thrawn would care to fight against the New Republic? He is loyal to the Empire but if it is gone, why put someone else in as Emperor? Does he know the resurrected Emperor is hiding out in Exegol? He has been gone before the second Death Star destruction. Does he still believe the Empire is the best defense against the coming Yuuzhan Vong invasion? The same bad guys his own people are battling.

I just assumed that Thrawn would potentially just become essentially a new Emperor himself. Or at least that would be the plan.

Based on how he acted in Rebels, I would also assume as @doctornick just pointed out, I think he wants to take over as emperor of “his new Empire”.

Yup. Star wars started the theatrical mega blockbuster. I think without a clear theatrical path, the shows will struggle with that casual fan. Shows are fine, but they would be helped tremendously by a healthy theatrical slate in my opinion. I'll watch this whole show as well as Andor season 2. But I can't say any of my family or friends will. And so far, I'm the only one I know in my circles who has watched it.
You can describe that as “diminishing returns due to lack of creative focus”

The was the crux of the original zahn books…the first new material after Jedi. 9-10 years that seemed like 50

Thrawn was trying to control the large imperial remnants…which made total sense in the universe. The yub nub sequence was the beginning of the new government…not the finish line. So a lot of things happened between that and the stupid attempt by JJ master of the rebootverse.

Ashoka is at least trying to flesh some of that out…which is really what the OT segment always wanted. George just kinda waited too long to make that happen.

A retcon here is a solid move. Filoni said he talks to Tim Zahn in series development.

I mean…having Home One with a glorious flyby was a very thinly veiled gravel to old school fans…was it not?

I think that’s an overreach on the characters potential

Wow there are a few questions in there. Thrawn wants to return the Empire and be the one in charge. It's likely about ideaology. As for whether he knows or wants Palpatine resurrected, who knows. Maybe he was behind that whole thing (or they will retcon it as such). So is the question (1) why does he want to be the new "emperor" or (2) does he know about the clones Palpatine by Sith occultists? So #1-why wouldn't he? and #2-not clear yet

So the book Outbound Flight by Tim Zahn which gives the reason why Thrawn would side with the Empire because it is the best chance against the coming Yuuzhan Vong invasion is reconned.
And we saw in Mando 3 that the Empire generals/admirals are looking to recruit him to be their new leaders.

And as you mentioned, would be great for Thrawn in order to protect his own people from the foes in his region of the galaxy or from an extra-galactic threat.

Yeah, that is probably the best reason even if it is weak for Thrawn to be a threat. We don't know who's side he will join. He could just lead the Chiss in to invade the New Republic but I doubt it.

Because he's evil and would prefer to be a player in an Evil Empire over a New Republic? Even if he winds up being a general under a cloned emperor he'll be on the side he wants to be on. Sure he needs help for an exogenous invasion, but either government could do that....

I think this is debatable. His behavior in Rebels would definitely be defined as “evil”. Not negating that he’s smart, but most people who side with the Empire are not “good”. Thrawn included.

Not that the New Republic didn’t have its issues as we are continuing to find out.
Except in the books he has certain motivations for his actions. He is more gray. The newer Thrawn books explain this and are cannon.
