Aerodynamic qualities of antenna toppers?

Okay, after lurking for a long while I thought I had better post something but I had to wait until I thought I had something really worthwhile to discuss :animwink: !
Like a lot of other people we bought some Mickey ears antenna toppers while in WDW last December. The missus has one on her car while I have one on the aerial (UK-speak here folks!) of my Ford Escort Van but the only probem is that on the motorway or in some cross-winds it bends the aerial and bonk-bonks (is that a word?) on the roof !
The first time it happened I nearly pulled over because it sounded like someone was sitting on the roof rack knocking on the roof  !
Now I'm sure there must be some aviation experts out there who can advise me how to trim or adapt my Mickey ears to avoid this happening .
Any suggestions welcome altho heaps of sarcasm especially well received :animwink: .
I did ask around for advice amongst the ruff tuff builders I work with but most replies (of those I could repeat :zipit: ) were not too useful  !

I think you're looking at this problem the wrong way. Instead of making the topper more aerodynamic, why not think about ways of reinforcing your pole, making your aerial more rigid? If you wrapped it with insulating tape, it would bend less and therefore not reach your roof.

If you take it off it'll stop. Or if you drive slowly everywhere it'll stop. Or tyhe sensible option is to try and stop your ariel bending so much.:animwink:

Thank you all so much for your helpful (:lookaroun ) advice but I've decided the best way is to ask my boss to buy me a new van but to pay particular attention to the aerial bending properties. I could even supply him with a set of Mickey Ears to take around the showrooms. I'm sure he'd understand;)

By the way I actually suggested this at work this morning.

PS Got any vacancies for a builder anyone? Obviously, I'd need a van supplied :D :D

...buy a car with the antenna built into the window and then put the Mickey Ears on your roof....that did it for me....no more thumping.:hammer:

Perhaps there are more practical ways to show the world your love of all things Disney. Maybe a portrait on the door of the van, or a tattoo on your forehead so your love is not only expressed while in your van but can be seen by everyone.

I had a similar problem, and resolved it by simply attaching pillows to the top of my car. The has stopped the irritating noise, and is a handy place to sleep if you are out late!

Last time i was in WDW i tried to get a mickey mouse head for my car. The bloke in the suit wouldn't let me have it for some reason though...
