I am finally graduating with my PhD in summer 2012 (long journey!!). But I really want to treat myself to a vacation abroad. I am looking into the Adventures by Disney - South Africa package for late 2012 or some point in 2013. It is VERY EXPENSIVE but I like the Disney name and security.

Has anyone used Adventures by Disney? Any and all information will be greatly appreciated.

I don't know anything about the Adventures by Disney trip to South Africa, but having just returned YESTERDAY from an 11 day trip with my hubby to South Africa, I highly recommend going there. We used a travel agent who specializes in (and is from) South Africa. We stayed at a private game reserve in the Sabi Sand where we were fortunate enough to see the Big 5 within 2 days (lion, leopard, rhino, elephant, and cape buffalo)! Then we toured the beautiful Cape Town and finished off in Hermanus, the only land-whale-watching community in the world. It is a beautiful country, and if you have the chance to visit there, grab it!

My husband and I did Viva Italia in 2008 and we cannot say enough about this experience. We added a day on at the beginning of the trip in Rome and a day at the end in Venice. Disney made the arrangements for us for both additional days, even transfers to and from the airport. Can't say very much about South Africa, but I can tell you that you will find first class treatment from the Disney folks. They made all our arrangements, including air. We found our desired flight and they booked it (with a guarantee to absorb the airline change fee if anything did change). You will not regret a decision to go with ABD!

Congratulations!

StellaJack is absolutely right. I have never heard a soul regret taking an Adventures by Disney trip. It's expensive and you get what you pay for. Above all for me is the security of being in the hands of Disney. You don't have to worry about any questionable tour operators, security, or anything else you might worry about when traveling in a foreign country you are not familiar with.

I've been helping someone plan the ABD trip to Ireland and wishing so much I could join them.:)

That is aswesome that your almost done!!! We took the Adventures By Disney trip to Hawaii in 2006 (they dont offer it any longer). We had a great time and the trip was first class all the way. Our Dinsey tour guides were awesome and helpful and it was a well put together trip. We had a daily touch of Disney with a pin (think Disney pins you trade) geared towards the daily event. Each night we got a list of the next days activies so we would know what was going on. Just some helpful hints....price you see most likely does not include airfair and most likely you will not fly out of the same airport you came into. So read the details carefully when you go to book your air. Several folks on our trip made that mistake and were on the wrong island for your flight home!!! But Disney took very good care of them. Not sure if this helps but feel free to PM me if you have any questions i might be able to answer.

I have been kicking around the idea of doing the Germany ABD in 2012 but the price is just jaw dropping. Me and 2 kids, plus airfare. We are talking $12,000

A can do a 8 day Hungary/Budapest/Prague tour with ABC (who I trust - I know MANY people who have used ABC and were more than happy) for $1,700 per person - including airfare.

OK so ABD includes most meals, ABC is only breakfast, but is ABD really worth double the price.

Egypt is costing my mom and I $10,000 and that doesn't include airfare for 2.
