They could go with a tunnel for the train to go through. So, above and beyond the tracks. I think it would cool.

Where? 20K? Yes, but for a LOT of money - to be spent even before the attraction is started. Beyond the old 20K site is the only access road to the north backstage area (and main Utilidor entrance) - this would have to be rerouted. As would the main utility lines into the park from the North Serveice Area. Big Job. Then you come to the land north of the MK; apart from the Railroad it was never reclaimed in 1969 for actual buildings; this would be a MAJOR engineering project.
For the Magic Kingdom to be successful, it DOESN'T need another e-ticket ride. MGM needs something new (besides TSM)....AK could always use something else but MK can stay the way it is and not suffer for it....which doesn't mean I wouldn't mind seeing something new added 
LONG RANT AHEAD:
I'm sooooooo tired of people posting comments saying the MK doesn't need a new E-ticket or that park has lots of attendance so it doesn't need anything new.... blah...blah...blah
That's the same mentality the bean counters use to justify not spending money on the MK or other parks.
The Magic Kingdom has been on a down hill slide for content since 20,000 Leagues was exterminated from the park for financial convenience. Disneyland CA blows away MK for quantity and quality of its content. Disneyland Tokyo has passed MK on content and quality as well.
To think the simple thought that the turnstile count is all that matters is foolish. MK's turnstile count justifies expanding the park, adding E-tickets and causing that turnstile count to jump up exponentially. I know many people who visit the MK as a due-diligence stop on their Orlando vacation, but come away "less then overwhelmed," but still satisfied. This is similar to the satisfaction of hitting the McDonalds drive thru instead of the best burger joint in town. Good quick meal, but not the best you've ever had.
The MK should be the 'best you've ever had' not the 'Uh, Disney MGM and AK need a new ride more, so the MK is good enough for now," level of satisfaction people seem to be placated by these days....
It's sad to think the only way TDC will invest seriously in its own goldmine is for people start buying the diamonds from the vender down the street. I hardly think this is what Walt would have wanted....
I don’t disagree that MGM and AK might need it too, but that doesn’t mean MK doesn’t need it, or need it more.
When you consider that the costumer base at DL CA is 80% locals and WDW is only 20% locals it is clear to see that this is directly related to the functional qualitative differences between the two. Florida is the third or fourth most populated state in the country but can only deliver 20% to DL’s 80%. Again, I don't wonder why.

West of the canal - good idea, but there`s the EWP dock as mentioned above to consider. A bigger issue is - like in my 20K north post - the land. The MK was actually built on one of the two highest ground levels on property (the other was LBV) - west of the park the land is very close to the water table and prone to flooding in worst case scenarios (the RCID 100 year storm info shows this) Any expansion west would need a lot of engineering again to raise the land from the swamp to build on.

I think the 'best that's ever been' feeling is what should define success.
Also, MGM's attendance is a little over half that of MK, yet its ride/show count and number of E-tickets is far more than 1/2 that of the MK, so using simple math, the MK really is the one overdue for some E-ticket attention.
I also believe that MGM is way behind California Adventure, but that's another topic...

I don't see them adding another E Ticket to the Kingdom until they finish the rehabs, and I'm fine with that. They should get a boost of attendance from a refurbed space mountain, and then again in 2-3 years when another e-tickets finds it's way into the park - that seems like the most likely scenario.

But do you guys think the next addition (whenever it is) will be in Adventureland, 20K spot or somewhere else?

There have been many discussions as to where the next Magic Kingdom E-Ticket will be. Evidently there are two locations in Adventureland that have room, the 20K leagues area could be big enough for two E Tickets, and there's room in Tomorrowland by where the old Tomorrowland stage
I should note that there is no basis of fact behind this, but if I had to guess what and where the next E-Ticket for the Magic Kingdom would be, I'd say it would be Bald/Villain Mountain in the 20k leagues area. I think the idea/story is too good for them to not build this. The other speculation I have is the Morphing Coaster idea finding it's way into one of the parks.
