Adults with a "Birthday" button

We are planning to go to WDW the week of my bf's birthday (-he's turning 33). We heard about getting a birthday button and about how some of the characters give the young birthday celebrants special treatment.

Are there any adults who have celebrated their birthday at WDW? Any special treatment from the characters towards adult birthday celebrants? He's a big kid and it would make his trip if he were to be given the same type of treatment as the kids.

(For our trip reservations, dining reservations, and our Around the World on a Segway Tour, we were asked if we were celebrating an event and I did tell the vacation specialist that it was his birthday. Hope there's some fun surprises!)

I have celebrated my birthday in the parks and for the most part it was the restaurants that really recognized it with either a cupcake or a cake to celebrate. And many of the castmembers in the parks, etc did wish me a happy birthday.

Absolutely! He'll have a great time. A lot of CMs and a fair number of guests will wish him a "Happy Birthday" wherever you go. You might get a special treat or dessert occasionally, just don't depend on it.

I wore one for my 50th birthday. The only person that had any problem was my then 14 year old son, but he's embarrassed by me so much of the time it was nothing new to him! :animwink:

We celebrated our anniversary there a month ago and my nephew's birthday.... every ride we got on we were wished a Happy Anniversary. It was great!! We received the buttons when we checked in because my brother has phoned ahead to the resort and told them of the special occasions.

Seems like in past years they really went out of their way. I used to get all sorts of freebies like desserts at counter service locations, etc.

The last two years though, it's been a lot more toned down. These days, you pretty much only get "Happy Birthday!" wishes from CM's. Which is still nice but not as "special" as it used to be. (I think after everyone got admission last year for their birthday, they just had too many birthday celebrants each day.)

I wore a birthday button last year on my actual birthday, turning 37. I got wished "happy birthday" all day long and my kids got a kick out of telling everyone how old I was. We ate at Cape May Cafe that morning and the characters all fussed over me, as much as non-verbal characters can. As PP's have stated, since the "What will you celebrate" promotion started there have been less freebies, since everyone is celebrating something. As long as you're not expecting anything, it will still be a fun time.

We go almost every year in Sept which is when my birthday is.....we are never there "ON" my birthday, but I still get the button and wear it the whole trip....I mean after all that "IS" why we are in WDW in the first place. I get the Happy Birthday wishes all day, and free cupcakes, but the best is that some of the CM's at the rides will give me a stack of fastpasses that are good at any ride. I just hope they do it again this year

When I knew I'd have a rough time for my 30th, I planned a trip to Disney, wore my Happy Birthday badge proudly, and got treated to seranades and TONS of birthday wishes! Made it all very special.

One Splash Mountain CM even did a dance for me as we were departing, then again when we returned :)

If your celebrating at a sit down inform them ahead of time and they will make note of it in your reservation, at quick service they may give you a free desert, Some attractions like hall of presidents and american adventure may pull you aside and have you listen to a phone recording of some character wishing you a happy birthday, some LIVE entertainment may point you out and serenade you (dapper dans, mainstreet philarmonic, ext...)

once many years ago the sax quartet in Fantasyland cerenaded me, then gave me a "citizen of the magic kingdom" button... so yea getting emberassed can pay off... lol

I highly recommend wearing a button related to your celebration. The CM will go out of his/her way to make your time at WDW very special. We vacation every September for our anniversary and wear our buttons. It makes us feel extra important. Sometimes the restaurants will put together an extra special dessert. Have a wonderful vacation.

I am taking three of my kids in January 2011 to celebrate my 50th year. I will celebrate my birthday all week long. This is the reason I am going and will be proud and excited to be at Disney World and to be celebrating my birthday.:)

Kids , I can definately understand but adults... grow up. Just my opinion.

Why not just carry a sign that says" LOOK AT ME!!! I need some attention and maybe a free dessert, too!" :D

I agree!
I have been lucky enough to celebrate my last 3 birthday at DW. The first year, I got a lot of little "extras", but then last year they did the free entry on your birthday and that was it. (Believe I'm not complaining)
Although this year, as we were getting in the stand-by line at TSM (with a 60 minute wait), the CM at the entrance noticed my birthday button said "Oh, you need to go to the birthday line and let me and my family go through the FP line)

When we went in Feb we were celebrating my DH's 40th birthday and he received his "birthday" pin when we checked into Pop (the CM wrote Mike's 40th on the pin). He wore that pin every single day for the entire week and wasn't embarassed by it at all. There were dozens of CM's that wished him a Happy Birthday and he received a birthday cupcake at every table service restaurant we went to along with them singing Happy Birthday to him. The CM at Chef Mickey's used gummy bears to spell out 40th on the plate with his cupcake and at H & V he received a birthday card signed by the characters when he got his cupcake. He also had many strangers in the parks wish him a happy birthday and at MK he went to buy a Mickey ice cream bar before the parade and the CM wouldn't take the money and said "Happy Birthday". He was grinning like a little kid all week whenever anyone wished him a Happy Birthday.

My best friend turned 21 and we went to Epcot. He was wearing his button and got a *FREE* shot of mid range tequila at the tequila bar in Mexico! :sohappy:

And you are entitled to it :)

I just happen to be in the camp where everyone deserves a bit of attention on their birthday. What's wrong with that? Disney and birthdays are two things that are definitely not just for kids, IMO.

My hubby and I were there for our Anniversary May 10-15 and we got the annviersary buttons when we checked in. It made the week so special. When we got to our room, there was an anniversary card on the bed signed by Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, and Donald ;)

Every single time we got on a ride we were wished a "Happy Anniversary" by castmembers. Even other guests, as we walked would tell us "Happy Anniversary". At Le Cellier we got a lovely card signed by the staff.

It doesn't matter how old you are, it is always fun to be at WDW and be able to feel lke a kid and be treated like a princess etc. It isn't about wanting something free for us, but about the fun.

Several cast members asked how long we had been married and it started a few great conversations. We had a BLAST!

I would reccomend wearing the special event buttons to anyone celebrating a special day while on vacation!:)

Are there any adults who have celebrated their birthday at WDW? Any special treatment from the characters towards adult birthday celebrants? He's a big kid and it would make his trip if he were to be given the same type of treatment as the kids.

Personally haven't had much character interaction when not with the nieces and nephews, and their visits have never coincided with either of our birthdays. But we do try to visit on each of our birthdays every year, and always wear the buttons. All I have experienced is being told happy birthday by cast members all day, and once got a free Dole Whip (as I was going to pay the cast member just said "happy birthday" and closed his cash drawer - a nice touch).
