My goodness! we are psyched that it is going to be open while we are on vacation in August (and thank you for the info about walk up seating) but I cannot believe those prices.....still we are going to try it :slurp:

They have italian sangria and pitchers of bud light...we are so in!!

Anyone else think the new prices seem a little ridiculous, even for Disney Dining?

Kinda shocked by the prices, even for WDW. One article says guy-in-charge loves the "simple" pizzas of Southern Italy. Too bad the prices don't reflect that. I don't see a pizza place as a TS. It's supposed to be simple and quick, not formal and expensive. Rather go to Puck's. They probably figure the DDP crowd will fill it. I can't see anyone paying out of pocket to eat there.

Besides, not a fan of Italian pizza anyway. Agree with recent survey, which said that France has world's best pizza. Wish that pavilion had a take-out place.

HOly Crap!!:eek: I agree those prices are crazy!!! And dough costs literally nothing (hubby works for a bakery so he knows first hand )Sad when you have to say "even for Disney"..Because you know you're gonna pay a bit more for food there, Prices that at home you probably never.

I dunno, gang. I don't see where the pricing is all that different from Tutto Italia's. From the descriptions I've never thought of Via Napoli as a plain ol' pizza joint. It's a nice sit-down restaurant with a little more options given for the flatbreads that they are cooking in a wood fire oven. ((The flatbreads in the wood fire oven, all hand crafty and all are a real treat for my family because where we live in Southeast Texas there aren't any true quality Italian restaurants close by....we have really great steak and Mexican places...and an Olive Garden 20 minutes up the road....LOL))

For instance:

Tutto's appetizers range from $8 for the minestrone soup all the way up to $29 for the Grand Antipasto Misto for two.

Via's appetizers range from $8 for the minestrone soup all the way up to $24 for the Fritto Misto to be shared by the whole table.

Tutto's lasagna is $24.

Via's lasagna is $20.

Tutto's spaghetti & meatballs is $24.

Via's spaghetti & meatballs is $19.

Tutto's entrees range from $24 up to $36.

Via's entrees range from $15 (individual cheese pizza) to $26.

Tutto's desserts range from $8 to $14.

Via's desserts range from $7 to $10.

All of Tutto's prices I got from a menu list which was last updated in September '09 so it's likely those prices are a little higher.

I guess everyone was set on Via Napoli being a CS place so there'd be a walk-up option in Italy. It's looking more like it will be another TS restaurant as an option to Tutto Italia. They have some stuff that's similar but then other things that are different.

Not knocking anyone because in actuality those are high prices. All Disney's restaurants are like that: expensive for what you get at similar restaurants at home. We all know that. I guess I just don't get the fuss over the pricing when it seems pretty much on-par with other Disney restaurants...even the one next door. Just wanting to understand is all.

Exactly. Why I give it less than a year, unless they continue the free DDP, before it becomes QS or goes out of business.

If a restaurant opened in the "real world" with prices like that, it would be closed quickly after the "newness" wore off.

But if $$ and cost to guests is going to drive a restaurant out of business and you have 2 Italian restaurants side-by-side wouldn't the more expensive one go out of business first? That would mean Tutto Italia will be gone because they're slightly more expensive.

Who knows what the Disney folks were thinking putting 2 restaurants side-by-side like this. I don't get that logic. Their pricing is so close. Is there that much demand on Tutto that a 2nd option was needed? I've never thought of Tutto as one that was super-hard to obtain like LeCellier. Heck, they should put a 2nd LeCellier in Canada. They'd rake in the cash on that. :D

Not necessarily. Cost is only one aspect of a restaurant. Food quality, presentation, ambiance and service are IMHO more important than price. I would much rather pay $25 for a pizza from Mellow Mushroom than $5 for one from Little Ceasar's.

I love Tutto, and I love Le Cellier. Both are pricey. I have neither in Columbus, so my family and I enjoy them while at Disney. Pizza places in Columbus? 100s of them. However Carfagna's Kitchen restaurant does wood fired pizza at a 1/2 the cost (see below menu snippet). So I guess some people will find it a treat if there isn't a place similar in their hometown. I'm sure I would, if none were close to me.

They've taken this restaurant in a whole different direction than was originally planned (QS), and it just seems to be goofy to have 2 similar restaurants with similar menus side by side. Even though it's supposed to be a "Pizzeria". When I was making ADR's for my August trip (60 days out), I had no problem finding seating for a party of 6 on any day I requested at Tutto (compared to "sold out" Le Cellier). So if Tutto is that "open" in the prime of August, I wonder what on earth possessed them to put an almost identical restaurant right next door.

Personally I won't pay $15 or more for an individual pizza, not even if Wolfgang Puck made it himself. They can import water from Italy, bring in the best chef in the world to prepare it, and hand-make their mozzarella daily, but bottom line is you're in a pizza place (it says so on the front of the building) and paying $150+ for a family of 6 to have drinks and personal pizzas with toppings and a salad or two is just plain silly.

I love Tutto just due to the fact that it was Traditional Italian, and I have no problems paying good money for that. But I've never ever had a problem getting seating there.

LOL @ Yoda, I had Mellow Mushroom last week with some coworkers, and I thought they were good, but very pricey.

I guess with a large family, and me sporting the tab, Little Ceasars becomes the more cost effective choice.

We bounce back and forth. If I am running late on a Thursday Lille Caesar's is a $16 instant dinner solution. If we plan to eat pizza we will hit Mellow Mushroom or more often than not a locally owned place called Moon River.

Can you believe I've never had Mellow Mushroom??? I've always wanted to. They built one in the past year by my Gramma's house over in Pensacola. We *almost* went there back in June but they had a live band playing and we wanted to be able to visit/chit-chat so we went to Red Robin instead. (RR is another place that's a rare treat for us...the nearest location is over an hour away in Houston))

I totally get ya. If I visited a city like Columbus I'd hurt myself with all those Italian options. I *adore* Italian food. :slurp: And, yeah, totally feel ya on getting the best bang for the buck for the family. Knowing how much we have spent vacationing at WDW w/our family of 4, I'm sure I'd fall over at how much more if we had a family of 6. Now that I've thought about it some, it does seem like an odd thought process to put Via right next to Tutto like that. I sure seems like a non-standard QS pizza place would have been a better option. I wonder if it was the restaurant group's push to shift towards a TS vs. a QS that influenced that decision rather than Disney's. Maybe they felt if their restaurant was QS it'd be perceived by guests as the equivalent to Pizza Planet's selections. Who knows?

I'm interested to see what the reviews are like and how this situation plays out.

I love Tutto just due to the fact that it was Traditional Italian, and I have no problems paying good money for that. But I've never ever had a problem getting seating there.

And I'm all for a 2nd LeCellier! :king:

Wouldn't a 2nd LeCellier-type place be great? Even if they did a CS w/scaled down versions of their most popular selections. I could make a meal out of a couple orders of pretzel bread & the butter balls. Or, filet mignon skewers with sides of mashed potatoes or mushroom risotto. ((We had to go to a farewell dinner for a family friend last night at a local upscale steak restaurant. I had the filet w/mushroom risotto. The steak rivaled LeCel's but the risotto wasn't even close. Banana bread pudding for dessert but it was a sad, sad experience compared to the heavenly goodness served at Ohana's. I left with a sad yearning for that lovely little wine cellar & festive Polynesian eatery.....)) :slurp:
