Or do they have decent avaliabilty on walk up?

Thinking of eating there our first night but don't want to be tied to an ADR if the kiddo is just too tired.

OK, it's not the most popular restaurant in the world (or The World, for that matter). But it's also a pretty small restaurant in a very big resort so it wouldn't take much to fill it up. I'd recommend them.

You should be fine, but I would at least lock up a day of ADR to be sure. The place is so small that all it would take is a single tour group to fill it to capacity.

I guess it just depends, we have needed a reservation every time that we have gone, on multiple occasions we tried to walk up, but the wait was going to be over an hour.

We just returned this Sunday from a week at Port Orleans -Riverside, As we returned every evening passing through the lobby and boatwrights and Yee haw Bob's place, the restaraunt was empty to half empty every night. We could have gotten walk up every night from 5pm till 10pm if we wanted. I think ADR's are not needed.

We've stayed at PO-Riverside 3 times. I have never see Boatright's full even though it is quite small. I have eaten there once, but I did have a reservation. However, I do not think it was necessary. We loved the food. It is one of my favorite places to eat!

I agree it can be a walk up. It's pretty darn good as well. I had maui maui with stewed green tomatoes last time. It was simply AWESOME!!!

I don't want to lose $ from an ADR if the kiddo is too tired to go. I think we will try our luck and just do the resort QS if there is a wait. Seems like we have a good shot.

Hope you get to enjoy Boatwrights, we had a very enjoyable meal there. If we ever stay at POR or the French Quarter we will definitely eat there.

Boatwrights does have empty tables when I go, but it is a place that you should a ADR for just in case if there is any thing like Master Yoda mentioned.

The other thing to look at is the French Quarter doesn't have a table service and it is possible that people from the French Quarter may want to go there besides the quests at the Riverside.

We walked up when we saw lots of tables empty and the hostesses asked for ADR? Reply sorry nothing available. OK??? Went to concierge desk to see what else was available near by. She had all sorts of ADRs for Boatwright.
Went right back with ADR booked through concierge and boy was hostess ticked.

We had our resort mugs with us 'cause we thought we would fill them after dinner and server said Oh I see you brought your own beverages into the restaurant, so snarky. I said no, we are going to fill them after dinner. She walked away, no beverage order...my DD and I got up and walked out.

The food is OK, but we've had some real issues with the staff in that place over the years. They need to go back to smile school.

If you want to be safe, I'd suggest going a little earlier than 5 or later than 7. It's not a restaurant that has a ton of attention, but like everything else that dinner rush-hour can cause a wait.

We had really good service there, but that was a couple of years ago. They shouldn't make you feel bad for bringing your mugs in. Good for you for leaving!

Well she sucked. Our waitress was great. Sorry you got a bad one.

We had less than "excited" service at Yatchmans when we went, not bad but he did not seem like he wanted to be there that night.

Thinking about switching from a Ohana dinner to Boatwrights since the Polynesian is such a mess. Its a birthday dinner. Do you guys think Boatwrights is a good idea? or Artist Point? If we did drop Ohana Im thinking it would be between Boatwrights or Artist Point unless anyone can recommend a better spot? Not staying anywhere just coming over for an afternoon/evening.

I think Boatwrights and Artist Point are two totalllllyyyyyyyyy different experiences.
I don't think I'd make an effort to go to Boatwright's if I weren't staying at Riverside. Artist Point, while more expensive, is worth the effort, IMHO. The only thing Artist Point doesn't have compared to other MK resort Signature restaurants is a view, but I had one of the best meals I ever had at WDW there.

To aladdin2007, you may want to also consider one of the restaurants at Grand Floridian with a view of the castle, something you'd lose by dropping your Ohana's reservation.
