About "Project Gemini"

I think Steve kind of gave it away that Project Gemini IS splitting the park in two.

Gemini = two twins

Also, it would, in effect, create the fifth gate.

This is what is being hinted at, nothing else.

The problem is that neither half is large enough on its own.

Yes, it has enough space to be 2 different parks, but it isn't fully developed. Perhaps that's where the money is to go?

I just don't see Future World standing on its own. World Showcase gives it a heart it much needs. Otherwise, it's just sort of cold and lifeless.

Future World can't have a parade, has nothing to do for the Holidays, and can't have a Fireworks show...

Hi all, Actually EPCOT did start out as concepts for two separate parks but then two of the top imagineers got on the models and pushed the two together. I got that from one of the Disney behind the scenes Travel Channel Specials!!! Belle

Hey belle can you name the two people that came up with that Idea? I know one of them was for certin

I believe the names mentioned were Marty and John. The person who said that they got on the models and pushed them together only used the first names. Plus my video copy of that special is on loan right now, so I cant refer to it! Belle

I think Epcot will stay one park, but they will make a gate at the entrance to World Showcase and use the World Showcase Entrance on the side of the lagoon they have now as a World Showcase discount ticket. It would be cheaper, but you wouldn't be able to get into Future World, which is where only full price payers would be allowed to enter.

Of course, what do I know?

Cuz there's no place to run a parade...? Where would it go and not seriously screw with the crowd flows and such? Future World is essentially a big "I" shape. The central breezeway the only way in and out of each half without going through World Showcase.

As for Fireworks, the lagoon takes the brunt of the fallout for RoE. In Future World, you'd have it landing atop people.. You could do it over the Land like they did for some special events, but otherwise, there's just no place to do it. It is the center of WDW and is surrounded on all sides.

And I don't think they could find a big enough santa hat for SE.

I cant remember how they worded it, but I remember reading a quote that Future Wolrd was the soul of Epcot, and WS was the heart. Or was it the other way around? Either way, it made a lot of sense, and it woudl be a shame if they were split up.

I am with Fievel here. I will believe it when I see it. The two areas alone would not justify a 50 dollar admission. I really think there is no chance of seeing this.

NNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please don't give them any ideas!!!

(Although it would be quite a feat to see them move the Fantasia hat to the top of SE and Paint it Red and White)

Or would they just put a big hook on the top of it for the holidays and it could be an ornament?

Sorry for the drift, couldn't help myself

I'm sure I'll take a few shots for this, but a Santa hat for SSE would be AWESOME!!!! HA!

I'd agree that the concept of 2 parks doesn't seem like it would work, but then I wonder what the meaning behind the project name is.........

Yep, and I hope no one has said this yet, but that also supports the massive amounts of money that is suggested may be used on EPCOT. Also, the Restaurant Pass idea for just World Showcase.

actually i see a few benifits. if each area is treated as a sepreat park, each area would have their own budget. we could see alot of imporvements in both future world and world showcase. and I like the idea of a world showcase only pass, especially if the park openes earlier for breakfast such as the princess breakfast in norway. here is the way i think they would run it.

1 turnstyles would be installed between future world and world showcase.
2. if you by an epcot full ticket you can enter both future world or world showcase and use either entrance. if you want to travel from future world to world showcase you would not need to swipe your ticket to get through to WS but from WS to future world you would need to swipe a ticket. still 1 park 2 distinced areas, both with it's own budget could lead to new pavilians and new countries and rides in each area. also could lure people from other park to come and sample the food without haveing to buy a full day pass. remember universal has emerils but not too much in the food area. I am starting to look more and more positive on this the more i think about it. in epcot we may get a living seas re-hab WL rehab the new weather pavilian, and who knows. i was just wondering if you have a WS only pass and are from outside where would they park?

I don't see how you could only check tickets going one way (FW to WS) and not the other way around. People could then pay for the WS ticket (if there is one) and go to FW.

No Thrawn, I did not get that out of the name "project Gemini". . . for one, it could just be referring to the fact that Epcot is really just one park with two themes, hence the term "Gemini." (Yes, two twins, but part of a single constellation). Second of all, why would it cost $300 million to split a park in two (assuming that the rumors are true)? If all that's needed are some turnstiles, walls, and a parking lot, where's the rest of the money going?

I'd hate to be rude, but maybe we should ask Steve about what we're assuming he's saying before we start assuming.

From what I'm understanding, normally an allottment of money is available every so many years to start a new park, rather than start a fifth gate, they will use the money to upgrade all parks and concentrate on EPCOT, the money would be well used, as both WS and FW need some more attractions to be good stand alones, so I think 300 million would be used pretty quickly. Propably new rides at WS and new countries, and new pavilions and major upgrades to the Body, Living seas, and the Land at FW.

It would mae the monorail track a little weird if they split.
