About "Project Gemini"

I saw this in today's update, and I must add that this project is NOT what many of you are thinking of. Remember that the rumor about Epcot being broken up into two parks is very alive and well...

Almost every day we get trip reports from members that have just been to WDW and they ALL point out that some place or another is dirty and needs to be better cared for. Does Disney really think it's wise to start BUILDING stuff when everything that's already there is being forgotten?

I don't think they have time to take tings one thing at a time they need to get stuff up and running. They might be trying to finish it during the off season. I don't know I tink that they're a big enough company to do it all at once.

That could be it, but even with all of Disney's crazy decisions for speinding money, they still make good rides once in a while. With all the talk about Mission: Space going on for, like, the past 4 years, and with it up comming opening, I think it is appropriate for Disney to start hinting to what their plans are for their next big attraction(s). This could be what Project: Gemini is all about.

Epcot as two parks? Does that not sound like splitting up one problem and making it two problems? If people can't justify spending a day in the park with the two areas together, why would they pay to go to separate parks?

I have the Imagineering book and it does have some interesting concept art in it but it seems like a bad idea to split the two apart. If they are going to take the money for a 5th gate and apply it to Epcot, don't split the parks up, use the money wisely in both sections. A little strategic planning would make a lot more space. A new pavilion with a thrill ride here, some solid rehab here and there. Perhaps something in the afternoon as it seems as though Future World is more important in the afternoon and World Showcase picks up before Illuminations.

How in the world would people going only to the "World Showcase" park get in?
Through the International Gateway between UK and France.
I personally think that the options will be a full admission including both halves or admission to WS only.

It seems to me that they are not large enough to split. If they are going to take it that far I wouldn't be surprised to see admission to DD instead of just PI.

I'm not really in favor of this idea either ,but if any long time Disney fan remembers that EPCOT started out as two seperate parks and at the last minuite they merged the two together as one large park just before the serious engineering was to start. I'm just wondering if they had this very concept from the beginning since the gateway between FW and WS was more open and there was no real clear distinction between where WS and FW meet. In the original plans there was to be a "Court of Flags" between the two representing all the nations represented at EPCOT in the original preliminary blueprints, instead of the lagoon and bridges that we now have there.

Splitting Epcot into two parks may be te dumbest thing I've ever heard. There'a a reason the plans to make it two parks were scrapped all those years ago. I can't even begin to express how stupid I think this idea is or how upset I will be if it ever happens.

unreal...

Yeah, but they made the right decision then. That's one of the things that made Epcot so cool. It wouldn't have been the same with two smaller parks. The other things that made it cool were Horizons, WOM, etc. I still love the park even without them, but....

IF they were to split it in two and have either a full park ticket or just a world showcase ticket, how would they keep me, and the other full fare paying folk, from getting royally ticked everytime I had to go through a gate from one side to the other? (Who doesn't jump from one part of the park to the other more than once in a day?) At that point they may as well divide up MK into the different "lands." Ludicrous.

I may get booed off the stage for this, but I see some real advantages of splitting the parks. It is currently very big, and it's already split into two distinct sections with distinct goals and atmospheres. Splitting it may provide the focus needed to get some of the really neat ideas I have seen from people implemented. It may also increase sponsorship (I wonder if some current sponsors feel they are lost in such a large, scattered environment).

The big downside I see is that the funds are coming from the proposed 5th gate. Unless they plan on some very interesting new attractions in combination with the split, I can't see how splitting it will offer nearly as much to us as a new park.

For the moment, I'll try to remain cautiously optimistic that they know what they're doing.

I'll file the 2 park idea into the "I'll believe it when I see it" category. It's so ridiculous that I don't see it happening.

Hi all, Actually EPCOT did start out as concepts for two separate parks but then two of the top imagineers got on the models and pushed the two together. I got that from one of the Disney behind the scenes Travel Channel Specials!!! Belle

I really don't know what to think. I think if the money is coming from the 5th gate to epcot thats is very good. I for one would love to see new things in all the parks and new rides then an entire new park. now I don't know if splitting the park would be good or not. if the do the resturants in world showcase may get more business. i for one would buy a WS pass just to go eat there. for example if I spend a day at a water park or outside disney etc, if you wanted to eat aat one of the world showcase places you wouldn't have to pay full admission. no that would mean a gate between ws and futureworld. i dont' know what disney will do, but as long as they put in some new stuff and make the park as nice as it was when it first opened i am all for it. then if a 5th gate park openes years from now it will be well worth it.

Hopefully IF they were to split the park it would force them to actually BUILD something in WS.

BUT knowing Disney they'd charge $50 to attend each park, like they did with AK "before it was finished"

I don't see how they could build a 5th theme park and not canablize the the themes from the other parks. AK is already stealing themes from MK.

I don't see why we're arguing over this issue at all. . . the update said that Epcot was just getting "rehabs," not being split into two. Only when the split is confirmed would I start ranting.

Nonetheless, I think cutting Epcot into two is a very bad idea, unless imagineers have reconsidered putting a Mt. Fuji ride in WS. I'd rather see the money go into general improvements, such as a nice rehab of The Living Seas or WoL.
