Do you approve of ABC's new shows (including ARE YOU HOT? or Extreme Makeover).

Please consider not only the show itself and its possible results and influence on our culture, but also that the Walt Disney Company is in support of this. I.e. Is it their duty or on whatever philosophy you choose. Just think before you reply.

Thanks!

No, no no no...no; no no, no no no! No...no, no no! No, no. No no no no, no no no no. No no? No! No no no; no no. No, no no now; no, no.

Is that clear? :animwink:

Are You Hot- I don't think it will last very long. I can't understand why anyone would expose themselves to that kind of scrutiny but there are tons of them out there- usually on Fox

Extreme Makeover- I am not personally a fan of plastic surgery and I thought the 3 people I saw looked just fine beforehand. But, to each his own. I could understand the guy wanting to ditch the excess skin.

There are a lot of worse things that could be on tv. If there is something I don't like, I just don't watch it. Disney did not buy ABC to better any of our lives- they did it to make more money. They are going to do that any way they can.

My favorite new show is 8 Simple Rules.... Whoever came up with that concept really knows his stuff. The dad/daughter relationship is usually ignored by writers but these people are right on the money. I love it.

I didn't vote, because I don't have an answer.

Er--
No.

I saw that extremem makeover show once last year. That's awful and disgusting, a show based on cosmetic surgery. And such lack of fresh ideas, as in the "are you hot" case, is something to be deeply worried about, because it shows that there isn't much imagination left in the world that can appeal to a higher level, an order worthy of human beings... an intelligence that is supposed to, or should, transcend the physical..

but that's just me:D

There is no way that anyone can expect network TV to try to follow the same formula for what makes Disney parks so popular. Network TV programming is ruthless and always trying to find the right comedy (usually with sexual tension somewhere) or, recently, some type of over-the-top "reality" based plot. (Like me ever meeting a millionaire when I was single and having her fall madly in love with me had ANYTHING to do with reality.)

This is one of the reasons why I believe ABC is an anchor around Mickey's neck. There are other reasons, buy hey, this one alone is a good one.

Those of you who picked YES:

Was it because Disney may get more money by ratings?

or

Is it because that is what they should do?

I'm studying ethics and it's a balance of PERSONAL DESIRE or MEANING. I was just wondering for those of you who picked yes - do you think it should because it benefits them or does it benefit television, you, public, America, etc.?

Gracias!!!!

I voted no...it just seems to go against everything that Walt based his company on. Yes, I do realize that tv is much different than running a park, but I still feel the Disney company should uphold the beliefs that Walt built his company on. If they can't do that while owning a tv station, then maybe they shouldn't own a tv station.

Exactly. I BELIEVE I know Walt well enough that he would object to his name being labeled on such shows. While the company may OR MAY NOT benefit or whatever false programming that the public "wants" to watch, it is not Disney's job to jump into the bathtub with 100 other channels. I am not going to go against the types of programming as it pertains to other channels - no matter how I feel about them - but this one particulary concerns me because the WALT DISNEY COMPANY is ordering them. I don't mean to insult anyone if you LIKE these shows - no! Go watch them! I was just wondering of how you felt of Disney producing them, as other channels strive for the same goal basically.

But a show like "Are you hot" may lead to eating disorders, depression, and don't do any thing for inspiration! It may just lead the public (and especially teenagers as they especially - as I know hundreds - have TV as their number one hobby) to something not as positive - something that the Walt Disney Company really hasn't striven for. Disney has lost touched with what it IS, so why is it even Disney?!  :hammer: :hammer:   :hammer: I am still working on it, it's taking me a while to get it. That's why I just need some more imput if you have any ideas. Thanks!

I didn't pick yes, but I would be willing to bet that those who did might be less likely to explain themselves if they think you are rolling your eyes at them ;)

Good luck with your project though

Whoops! Really, I didn't mean for that roll eyes to be there! I'm serious!! :o :o :o :o :o :o Really! I am! Because that is a motive that all major corporations use today and I understand what their motive is and how it helps them continue their production - i.e. if it weren't for money, the company wouldn't exist.

We are having like this debate about TV and such, so, I am just wondering what YOU think (the Disney public, bascially). Thanks SO Much for your imput so far whether you voted YES or NO!!!

I think Disney has its hands in too many things right now.

They have stretched themselves so thin!

Am I remembering correctly that there was a big hoopla over certain Touchstone films regarding "questionable" content? That seems like such a long time ago when you consider all Disney has done since then.

*singing- Edith Bunker voice* Those were the days!!!!

I still cringe at Jessica Rabbit being advertised as Disney! But that's just me! :lookaroun

But yes, my family and I once compared it to ROME - it just kept growing BIGGER and BIGGER and BIGGER...

ABC had one show I liked: Monk. Now it's gone.

My kids like AFV, so we watch it.

I wish Disney would sell ABC and be done with it. Then they could focus on being Disney.

It's like when Tetley started selling snack foods. They soon realized that's not what they were supposed to do. Now they've even sold off their coffee and are just selling tea. I wish Disney had Tetley tea. Fresh brewed that is.

I wish they were as smart as Tetley and would stick to what they're supposed to do.

I think these shows will be horible. Stuff like this should not be on TV. This sounds a lot like shows that would air on FOX not ABC a mostly family network, thats just my opinion.
