I don't think anyone in their right mind woudl ever confuse CR for Cool Runnings... I know Cool Runnings would never be the first thing on my mind when discussing WDW and hotels LOL...

MEMBER: Yea, I stayed at CR once.. Loved it.
CONFUSED MEMBER: You stayed at Cool Runnings?

:ROFLOL:
You haven't heard about the Jamaica Pavilion planned for World Showcase that will be anchored by a Cool Runnings inspired attraction? It will eventually bring the bobsled excitement of the Matterhorn to Walt Disney World but with the added excitement of experiencing it with all of your favorite friends from Disney's 1993 classic. :p

Maybe it is part of some super secret contract Disney had with the Jamaican bobsled team??? One they kept from the SEC. Sorry, couldn't resist...

TDS can sometimes be a confusing one, because you don't know if the poster is referring to The Disney Store, or Tokyo Disney Sea.

CR is another example, as the poster could be referencing Contemporary Resort, or Cool Runnings.
The worst for me is SM...Space Mountain or Splash Mountain.

Or sometimes people misuse the acronyms ...I've seen CR used for Caribbean Beach Resort!
Eh... you pick up the abbreviations as you go. as long as you know the names of Disney resorts and attractions, you can figure it out.
True to a point....recently someone used AoA as a an acronym several times...it took me a while to figure that one out as it is so new. I was wondering what in the world they were talking about....Google sometimes helps but came up empty for me!

That's another one

Everyone working on Art of Animation resort calls is DAAR, not AoA. Plus, it's easier to say.

Totally agree, or you can figure it out by the body of the message. Most of us Disney lovers know that CBR refers to Caribbean Beach Resort, (as an example), and does not stand for Children Being Rude. If a reader has any problem understanding the original post, the answers given pretty much clears it up

i hate the overuse of acronyms on this site. i've been a member of at least a dozen message boards over the years with a broad range of subjects.. and none of them used them the way this board does.

earlier tonight i saw someone use "MMY" in a post... so I thought about it for a few minutes.. checked the Acronym Dictionary and heyyy... it's not on there. none of the responses to the post helped out in any way.. after a while it occurred to me that i've spent more time trying to figure out it's meaning than was really deserved and moved on. but it's posts like that which ruin my enjoyment of reading an interesting thread.

for weeks i kept seeing the letters DH, DS, DD, and DW. now i deciphered that people were referring to their family members... but could never just figure it out. i was almost in a stupid rage when i read that the definitions were DEAR HUSBAND, DEAR SON, DEAR DAUGHTER and DEAR WIFE.

who the hell says that when actually referring to their family members?!?!? i'd rather read my "Immature Son", "Annoying Daughter", "Nagging Wife" and "Idiot Husband" :hammer:

so there.. those are the new abbreviations! LOL :p

...and i might add..

i understand that these are the abbreviations that people IN the loop... who are actually working on the rides use... so is that it? is this just a way for people to feel like they're "in the biz"... or "part of the plan"?

kind of a... "hey i know the roadie" mentality?

I find it very frustrating to be reading a forum comment with ease and then run into a ROADBLOCK of acronyms, even if I know what they stand for.

Typing is fast, so just type the names of things out;)

Or perhaps it's just easier for them to use common abbreviations that everyone know and accept?

They don't use them to that extent. I've been to plenty of forums, and only Disney theme park ones use probably over a thousand acronyms. Regulars being annoyed by newcomers mentioning that I think need to get off their high horses a bit.

I think newcomers constantly stirring up trouble is a much bigger problem then regulars answering a question posted by a newcomer in a calm, informative post.
