I look at it like this. if war takes place, I will go to Disney. I will enjoy myself fully and i will hope that a new attraction opens.

I think the park management would appreciate that, the president would appreciate that, and especially the United States economy would appreciate that.

You have to realize that in war times, or in times of trouble, when you support things that are American buy spending money, you are boosting the economy. Just remember that. I don't blame people for not wanting to travel, I wouldn't either, but I live close to WDW and by all means I won't let a war that will last ten minutes keep me from going.

To hell with Sadaam and all you tree hugging war opposers who think leaving them alone will make it all better. Your small minds all too easily forget 9-11. That's what happens when you leave them alone.

I would go to Disney at anytime...war ot not...

It just seems that people are more nervous that Disney will not open a new attraction while there is a war where death is everywhere.... (ok I know I dont make sense I dont know how to explain it)

Ignore me and I will go away :hammer:

Dear civileng68

I agree with much of your post. In a way, not going to Disney is not supporting America, of course this is a sick and twisted way. I do not agree with your closing statement:

To hell with Sadaam and all you tree hugging war opposers who think leaving them alone will make it all better. Your small minds all too easily forget 9-11. That's what happens when you leave them alone.

I think that this statement is filled with a lack of understanding. It may be your personal feeling to blow the crap out of them, but the statement wasn't necessary. It actually offended me. I am not a tree hugger, but I do not believe that leveling their homes helps. I do remember 9-11. I remember my history teacher walking into the class in tears telling us what had happened and that he and his family were having difficulty locating his wife who had been on a plane out of Boston earlier that day. That incodent ticked me off, but what about those that had nothing to do with it. What about the families who will lose loved ones when we attack them. We had two buildings destroyed on that day in September, but they have buildings destroyed every day. dealing with terrorism is a way of life for them. Maybe we should take a lesson from that.

What happens when you leave them alone? They try to become as powerful as us. Is that a crime?

Leveling their homes is not part of the plan. Hitting military and infrastructure targets is. Remember, we aren't going after the Iraqi people, we are going after weapons of mass destruction and Saddam.

Well, we left them alone for the last twelve years and they developed WMDs, against the wishes of the international community. They also sponsored terrorism, terrorism that was used against the United States.

Yes, the US also has WMDs but you don't see us using them. Saddam has used them against his own people, his neighbors and if he is allowed to keep them unchecked he may use them against us.

Saddam can't be trusted with the responsibility of having these weapons.

Yippy! A post about WDW attendance that has become political...gotta love it.

To answer the question that was originally posed...yes, attendance at WDW will drop with a war. People are just less likely to travel far distances (especially foreign travelers) during times of war. If attendance drops, yes, Disney is likely to make further cutbacks. Its simple economic reality. Unfortunate, but true.

I don't agree with any of your posts, TiggersPooh. Now is the time for us TO be thinking about Disney. Not only are most Disney addicts escapists at heart, but who wants to dwell on this whole war thing? We need diversions, especially people like us.

I don't keep my TV tuned to CNN and as a matter of fact I NEVER watch the news unless I'm looking for weather info.

So I say we should all "dream on" .... put Disney at the front of our minds. There is not enough time in our short lives for worrying about something negative which we can do NOTHING about.

I agree, lets talk about something fun :D

Politics is not a fun subject to talk about. Now, if Mickey Mouse ran for President, then... I can see where Politics and Disney would come into play. :)

Behave everyone! Just be grateful for the freedoms you have and that our men and women are overseas are doing their darnest to protect us back in the mainland.

God Bless America! And, God Bless You All. :)

Look, everyone, because war is growing closer everyday, I understand it is a little easier to let your feelings towards this subject and politics in general show on the forums. However, this continues to be against forum policy, and isn't acceptable in any section or thread.

Let's keep this discussion to the original question and all will be well.

Thanks,

Zac

Ummm, I know that. I am actually a very active Bush campaign volunteer and my father is over in the Persian Gulf region flying a C-130.

I just agree with Erika that this is a place to talk about fun stuff, not politics. :veryconfu :zipit: :hammer:

Disney

Okay, here it goes, Disney is definitley an escape place. You go there just to escape the regular problems. I would want to go even more, to get away from bigger problems. Like I said before, if Disney would include airfare, I'd be there a few times a year!!! Just a thought!

Okay.....I think attendance will definitely drop if there is a war.

That said, I have my reservations for September, and unless they are fighting in Orlando, my family and I, will be on our way!!:)

(and yes we will even fly!)

I will also be going to WDW in September...

And i'm flying from the U.K, its like an 8.5 hour flight. And I don't care if there is a war or not, I WILL still be going.

As a matter of fact, I can't wait!! :sohappy:

Lately when discussing WDW plans with my family I get the return resonse "Yeah, IF we go"
I knew what they were refering to, and finally hit it head on. I told them that if the pending war was hanging over our heads, we would have to make the decision when we got to it. I am NOT going to spend the next 2 months wondering IF I will get there. I AM GOING, and unless there are circumstances that directly affect my trip, I am staying my course. :D

Quite simply - YES.
While many Americans (North & South) and Canadians would be prepared to drive to WDW...

Um... driving to WDW from South America would be a VERY interesting experience. It may be possible, but I seriously doubt that anyone has ever driven from South America to Disney. If someone has done so, I'd sure love to hear about the trip through Central America...

And, from, say, Portland, Oregon to Orlando is over 3000 miles (5000 kilmometers). That's like driving from London to Aberdeen six times each way! Not exactly driveable distance for most people, either.

I prefer to drive from Detroit, but it is no where near 3,000 miles, only about 1,200. I just prefer to avoid the hassle of dragging all my bags and souveniers through the airport. Also, the drive through the mountains is quite relaxing when there is no rain, snow, or fog. It takes me one full day to get to FLA and then about 4 hours the next to arrive in the Orlando area.

Although, we push it pretty hard, most families would need two full days. I cannot even imagine coming from the west coast or South America. How would you make it through Central America and even Mexico. I doubt the highways are anywhere close to developed to the extent of ours!!!! :veryconfu

This is for strobe!

East bound and down, loaded up and truckin',
we're gonna do what they say can't be done.
We've got a long way to go and a short time to get there.
I'm east bound, just watch ol' "Bandit" run.

Keep your foot hard on the pedal. Son, never mind them brakes.
Let it all hang out 'cause we got a run to make.
The boys are thirsty in Atlanta and there's beer in Texarcana.
And we'll bring it back no matter what it takes.

Ol' Smokey's got them ears on and he's hot on your trail.
He aint gonna rest 'til you're in jail.
So you got to dodge 'im and you got to duck 'im,
you got to keep that diesel truckin'.
Just put that hammer down and give it hell.

I'm troubled...

I don't think that an actual WAR is something any of us can escape, no matter how hard we try.

If there's really a war, Disney will be one of the last things on my mind.

War time Disney

I disagree!!!!! When things get down and you need a lift, you will do anything to pick your spirits up! Disney is my spirit lifter. I'm not going to mope around for God knows how long and not live. That's the one thing NOBODY should do. There is circumstances of course that you might not be able to but as long as things are good enough to go, I'll go. And everyone else should do the same. Are you just going to sit in your house the whole time? What good is that going to do?
