A Trip of Firsts, Crowds, and lots of magic! A May 2013 Trip Report!!

Hello all! We just got back from our May 2013 trip! Incase you haven't read our pre-trip report I will give you all a quick summary.

We stayed at Pop Century Resort from May 22nd-May 29th.
Who are the we you might ask?
Well there is me (Emily) 21 year old Disney geek. Before this trip, I was diagnosed with gallstones and told a very strict diet to abide to. I also found out that my hip flexer was a little off so walking a lot would bother it. Nevertheless, I was given the okay to go and just take it easy. This was also my first time flying! We will get into both of these things more as we go on.

The other person on this journey was my friend (Mariana), also 21 and also a disney geek. Before this trip, she hadn't been to EPCOT or DHS since she was 11 years old so there was a lot of new things for her!

That's us :)

Throughout this trip report, I will be giving shout outs to different people we met, amazing cast members, and adorable children. If any of these people are you or if we look familiar don't be a stranger!

Are you Ready? Because Duffy sure is!

Here we go!!!

We woke up around 3:20am on Wednesday. We booked a super early flight out of logan for 5:25am. We got up and dressed and we were out the door by 3:45! We arrived at Logan around 4:00am and the place was dead. Went down the escalator to security, they weren't even there yet! around 4:15am Security arrived! Made it all the way through Security and we were at the terminal by 4:30.

Our energy level was pretty good for 4:30am! We got teas from dunks and we were on board the plane! Our first flight was to Georgia. We were supposed to arrive around 8:00am and arrived 10 minutes early at 7:50!

Some Jams at 6:30am.

Our connecting flight to Orlando was leaving at 8:40am. We quickly wet to the bathroom and tried to find our gate. The Atlanta airport was HUGE and very busy at 8am. We found our gate around 8:20 and they were already boarding our zone so on we went!

We landed in Orlando around 10:05am! My thoughts on flying? I absolutely love it. You get to your location so much faster than driving.

Next task? Find magical express! We got a bit lost but we were in the Magical express line by 10:30am and on the bus 15 minutes after that. Onward to Pop Century!

Our first stop was Art of Animation and then it was our turn to get off! We did online check in and our two priorities were the room be ready when we arrived, and 70s building. We ended up getting both! We were on the 4th floor of the 70s building facing towards the playground and the 80s section.

By the time we dropped our bags off, we were starving. And this is where Emily learned how difficult eating will sometimes be on this trip. I was told to avoid lactose, greasy/fried foods, red meats, certain fruits like oranges, strawberries, raspberries, etc. Looking around the food court, my options were pretty much salad or turkey sandwich. I went with the kids turkey sandwhich for the pure reason it came with carrots and apples which I could eat.

After eating we swam for a bit, and relaxed in the sun. Both of us ended up falling asleep on a chair outside until 3:30ish! When we woke up we were refreshed and decided to go to downtown disney!

So going into Magic Kingdom on the 24th, we knew a few things 1. It was going to be busy, 2. We weren't going to try to make it the whole night. Why not you might ask? Well after doing Epcot the day before, waking up and being at the MK by 6am wasn't happening. I said my goal was to make it until midnight, I had to see how I was feeling and that would determine how long I was able to stay. On this day, We also met up with Mariana's friend for parts of the day and she drove us to the magic kingdom! Awesome! No Bus line!

So around 10am we were on Magic Kingdom grounds. Monorail or ferry? I also vote ferry just because I like seeing the castle from the water. But the line was really long. We went to check the monorail line, again very long. So we went with a third option. What's the third option you might ask? Well the line to go to the resorts on the monorail had only 2 families and we knew it would get us to the Magic Kingdom faster than waiting in line. And by 10:20 we were through the gates!

Look at the nifty pins we got :)

We were on our way to tomorrowland and a certain red head caught our eyes. My last trip was in June of 2012 and Merida wasn't out for 90% of the day due to rain and when it finally cleared up we ran over to her and the line had just closed. :( She was one character I really wanted to meet this trip. The line didn't look too bad so we waited it out. In line we made a friend, Amanda, who was around 6 or 7 years old and on her first trip to disney world! We bonded over different characters and who we have met so far. It made the line go by so much faster and before we knew it, we were meeting Merida!

Mariana and Merida bonded over having curly hair and Merida loved our shirts of Belle and Ariel.

Next we had to shoot the bow and arrow. We got some guidance and got a bullseye

After Merida we decided to go over to New Fantasyland. We thought New Fantasyland would be near the Rapunzel bathrooms. Nope. Close but no cigar. As we turned around for the correct direction of New Fantasyland, we saw that It's a Small World was only a 15 minute wait and we decided to ride.

The Duffsters likes it's a small world too.

Eagerly waiting to see me lol :) We sadly didn't get to see Merida that day...the line was always too long...I didn't think she was that popular but she was also the favorite segment in Celebrate the Magic both times we watched it.

Trust me I have no idea how we did it lol every other day we had to wake up about an hour before we went to the parks. Honestly I am super surprised by how much we were able to do in EPCOT. Both times we went to EPCOT the park was DEAD. Magic Kingdom and DHS is a different story...

Everyone needs to try Voss water! I'm on of those people who to me water isn't water, there is a difference in how it taste lol

Lol It will be interesting to compare and see how close we were to eachother and different parts of the day. Maybe I accidentally ran into you after the Main St. Wishes traffic  We actually got in the Merida line at a good time because as we were leaving the line was almost all the way back to the castle. Once you got into the area it wasn't as bad because it was shaded but I think we waited at least 45 minutes to meet this red headed princess.

So I was working on an update and my computer crashed  Hopefully this time around it will post.

After it's a Small World, we got some popsicles and we were ready for New Fantasyland!

Up first? Meeting the one and only Gaston! When we got over to where Gaston was meeting the Cast member told us that the line was closed and he would be back out in about a half hour. We decided to then check the line for little Mermaid which ended up being 25 minutes! Mariana had already been on this ride at California Adventure and loved it there. She said that the queueing line at MK was a lot better than the one at DCA. The Little Mermaid area as a whole just has great theming to it.

Onward to Gaston! We got to his line about 5 minutes before he was meeting people. He came out cocky as ever  and we knew we were going to have fun with this character. A few people before us, a women challenged Gaston to a push up competition and this is what happened.

Soon it was our turn to meet Gaston. We walk over to him and the first thing he says "Your shirt, it hurts my eyes". From there we went onto a conversation about how I would put him on the shirt instead of the beast and how belle needs to stop reading those books because she could have been with a man like Gaston.

We quickly became friends.

When he saw Mariana's shirt he informed us about how he challenged Ariel to a swimming competition and won. He said she didn't stand a chance and no one should ever challenge Gaston! (Well Gaston, we found out the truth from Ariel a little later;) )

And of course I needed a picture alone with my main man.

After we said our farewells we went into Gaston's Tavern to try Lefou's Brew. We had heard mixed reviews about it but we wanted to try for ourselves and get the souvenir mug. Mariana also got the pork which she said was really good and I got a snack of Hummus and Pretzels. Overall we both really liked Lefou's Brew but could have split it. It was very sugary and sweet so halfway through we were done. Personally I didn't care for the foam stuff on top but the actually apple slush was tasty.

After our snacks and looking around the Beauty and the Beast area it was time to meet Ariel. Me and Mariana both remember meeting Ariel in her fin when we were younger back in her grotto so we were excited to meet her like that again. The wait time for the line was posted at 30 minutes but it was more around 45-50 minutes but hey at least the queue was in the shade and had fans.

Ariel was extremely excited when she saw Mariana's shirt and Mariana was in heaven which I think you can tell from the pictures. We brought up the swimming match with Gaston and Ariel informed us that Gaston likes to lie a lot and he could never beat her in water maybe running but not swimming. ;)

What to do next? At this point Cait left us to go hang out with some other friends. We went to check the wait time for Haunted Mansion, which was 45 minutes. So we passed and decided we might come back to it later. Tomorrowland? Sounds good to me!

We got fastpasses for Space Mountian first with a return time of 4:35, which was about an hour away. Besides space mountain, I wanted to ride the TTA and Mariana wanted to ride Carousel of Progress. So we did both of those and then went to the laughfloor to fill in extra time we had.

In Laugh floor I have been to some really funny ones and some so so ones. This was a so so one. They picked one women in the audience who kept saying do I really have to do this? And wasn't having fun with it. And the jokes were just eh.
Time for Space Mountain!

Front row :)

I always forget how much I enjoy Space Mountain until I ride it again and realize I really like it.

Up next, dinner at Be Our Guest

It was time to enter Beast Castle.

Our reservation was for 5:30 but we got there about 10 minutes early. There was a line of people who didn't make ADRs trying to get in for dinner. But of course, it was booked for the night.

We waited a few minutes and our buzzer went off, our table was ready. Our greater showed us around the ballroom and then goes "I don't know how you feel about dark places, but you will be dining in the west wing tonight." We were ecstatic! We knew the West Wing was small and didn't think we would get to dine in there.

Rose napkins

Our waitress Michelle was amazing, I cannot say enough about her. I told her about my dietary needs and I ended up telling her about my gallbladder.Turns out her mother had gallbladder issues so she knew exactly what I could eat! She went over what I could and couldn't have and what I could have if I took something off. Honestly just by doing that, she created a magical moment for me.

Back on topic! the bread and butter was delicious, no picture though because we were so hungry it was gone pretty quickly.
I ordered the Cornish Hen for dinner, Mariana ordered the Shrimp and Scallops. We both really enjoyed our meals.

For desert we got the chocolate creme puff with a raspberry sauce. Something I didn't think I could have but Michelle told me the ingredients and I was good to go :D

After our meal, we walked around the castle, took pictures and met the beast.

Continued.

Overall we really enjoyed Be Our Guest. The price was good and both our meals were delicious. We would definitely eat there again.

When we left Beast Castle, it was beginning to rain outside. Not much just some sprinkles. Our last thing to do in New Fantasyland was Enchanted Tales with Belle. The line was only about 15 minutes even though the posted time said much more.

We didn't get picked for a part but that was fine, it was still fun to watch others act out the story. The little boy in our show who acting out the beast was adorable and had a great roar!

It was almost time to get a spot for MSEP but we first wanted to squeeze in Phillarmagic.

By the time we got out it was after 8pm quick photo in back of the castle and then off to try to find a spot.

Regular fantasyland was packed! New Fantasyland wasn't nearly as busy. The rain cleared up by the time we were out of Enchanted tales so it was just a quick light shower. :)

Great trip report. :) I've been to Be Our Guest for lunch but haven't for dinner. Maybe someday.
Be Our Guest, like many food places in Disney kinda gets a mixed rep for the reason of people go in there thinking its going to be this amazing meal, better then anything else they have ever tasted. We completely loved it because it was the best bang for our buck the whole trip.

As for making reservations I know its a struggle! I honestly went online and made them about 4 hours after they were open at my 180 day mark. Some of my coworkers tried to make reservations less than a week after the 180 day mark and no such luck :(. Keep checking though! Someone might cancel! Also if you check in to a resort, have them check all the days you are there as well and see if any opens come up. Be Our Guest is a hot place right now but I'm sure it will die down a bit in a year or so.
