A Theory on Space Mountain's Rumors of Refurbishment.

If or If not, when do you think when the Refurbishment will be?

It was scheduled to start this summer, but now looks to be bumped (again) to next January. Likely it will take around 16 months or so to complete.

It's not a rumor. It is happening.
In a sense, it has already begun. WDI is currently actively working on the project, doing preliminary stuff. Someone involved is at the ride almost every day or so.

It's just a matter of time.

Much new track. New trains. New effects. Audio. Gonna be nice.:D

Michael Scott: Wikipedia is the best thing ever. Anyone in the world can write anything they want about any subject. So you know you are getting the best possible information.

Yes! Another fan of "The Office"!

I sat up all night last Monday and watched most of season 3 on DVD...... I laughed so hard I woke up my kids!

Rockin' Space Mountain?
Rockin' Space Mountain!
Oh, please Rockin' Space Mountain!

Tell me you're joking. In my opinion that was the worst thing Disney has ever done to one of their attractions. Go-go dancers projected on the ceiling? Being able to see the tracks? Cheesy disco lights everywhere? Painful Red Hot Chili Peppers music? I hope to never see that beast rear its ugly head in Disneyland again, let alone Disney World.
Now, the current version of Disneyland's Space Mountain without the evil overlay or something even better? You betcha! For me, it would jump up a lot of notches in terms of favorite Disney World attractions then.

Touche. Let me refine my statement. Minimal visual changes. Nothing that changes the theming of the ride. Just a sweet orchestral score to go with the ride. NOT RHCP. Maybe something Harry-Gregson Williams meets Jerry Goldsmith.

Disney is not waiting for a sponsor for Space Mountain.
Refurbing Space Mountain takes more than meets the eye...

BTW Wikipadia sucks! (if I wanted to I'd change the whole article concerning Space Mountain).

Wikipedia :fork::fork::fork:

My students don't understand why I hate it so much. I tell them any idiot sitting in the basement munching Cheetos can put anything on there they want. When we do research papers I point blank tell them if they use Wikipedia, the paper is an automatic "F" because they have been given countless warnings about the danger of invalid sources. Wikipedia is not a reliable source for anything.

Back on topic...

In 2006 we rode Space Mountain and literally felt the car jump the tracks. That was scary. It needs some TLC.

:sohappy: And the army for the war against Wiki grows.

I'm with you there. But let's think even grander - John Williams!

Any clue if they are going to have to pop the top or will the back door be big enough?

They really need to drop the holograms in the queue...they give me a headache. Perhaps there is some new effect they can use there. The tunnel itself still looks cool and I love how dark it is. I hope that doesn't change much. The queue music, while I love it, is a little dated at this point. I think something a little more foreboding would work better or alternating between something foreboding/dark and something inspiring/adventurous.

I am very excited for any kind of rehab on this one! SM is one of my favorites. I can remember almost everything else getting a makeover besides this. I agree the long halways holograms need to go. I get a headache from time to time from them. The music definitely.

One thing for sure is that when this does get rehabbed anyone riding the TTA should take photos of the progress permitting they dont board up that trackway!

Latest word I got seems to imply that the layout will remain pretty much the same, but with "extensive" track replacement. Probably necessary due to the new trains as much as anything.

It appears that the theme will simply be an expansion of the current New Tomorrowland theme. Similar to now, just more fresh. And with a totally redone exit queue.

Any clue if they are going to have to pop the top or will the back door be big enough?
I have yet to have anyone involved tell me anything about "popping the top". The back doors may not be sufficient, but there are other options besides doing anything structural to the roof.

So, you're saying it will have a Disney character or ten in it? Princess Mountain, perhaps?

Not being sarcastic...obviously Lee and Corrus have sources and know more than most. One Space Mountain CM told me that a good deal of the time that the ride will be down will be spent removing the asbestos from the ride and that is going to take a while. He said when it goes down, it is going down for a while. Again, us front line CMs know little more than the average guest and often get our scoops from this website, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

thanks.

i wonder if there is enough room right there in the queue switchbacks to have a fabricating area right on site :p
