A surprising omission?

I don't believe Apple is a major shareholder of Disney, what you're likely thinking of is the family of the late Steve Jobs as a result of Disney's acquisition of Pixar who I believe are still the single largest Disney shareholder. As for putting a store there, it's not all that bad an idea. I have a friend who works at one of the local Apple stores here in Orlando who has stated multiple times that close to 50% of the business in that store is from international tourists wanting to buy here because the phones and laptops are so much cheaper than back home. That would be the primary reason it might make sense for Apple but they would have to determine if it would add additional revenue for them, vs just cannibalizing the other stores in the Orlando area.

I kind of thought a big draw for Apple stores is tech support. That is the biggest reason I can think of why DS should have an Apple store. Seeing how so much of your vacation can be planned and executed via smart devices now.

I've never really explored an Apple Store, so maybe I am completely wrong.

I never said that there CANNOT be an Apple store. It is my OPINION that I would prefer it not be there. ;) But my opinion and what will actually be are two different things. AND my opinion means about squat to anyone else. So why does my opinion bother you so much?
I apologize for how my post appeared. I'm sorry you saw it as me addressing you specifically. That's why I put it in quotes. I didn't say anything about being bothered either. It's just common for some people to have such a strong drive one way or another that they would legitimately be upset if an Apple Store opened there. The same way that some people would never even touch a PlayStation controller because the Xbox is the only system that matters.
This was nearly a generalization...

I would prefer that an apple store not go in to disney springs. It is a really congested area just from people doing the entertainment and buying Disney themed products. Having some thing that draws in a bunch of stressed out people (because jr broke the screen or it fell in the toilet or whatever) just doesn't sound fun to me.

I would agree with that. I don't have any Apple products as I simply do not care for them. They tend to be well made and well designed products that are, IMHO, overpriced compared to their counterparts with no added benefit for me.

On the other hand, "Apple Fanboy" and their attitude makes we me feel a bit warm inside every time I hear about a bug in an Apple product.

"Apple fanboy" is a tiny minority of Apple owners these days. Most people who own Apple products are just... people.

I've mentioned this before, but unless Apple has to jump through government hoops (their new San Francisco and Chicago stores), they rarely announce their stores in advance. If they come to Disney Springs, I doubt we'll know until we start seeing recognizable architecture.

This is true. If anything there seems to be 2 categories, the general public who is mostly indifferent and then the "anti-Apple" people.

Do you have any idea how packed the Florida Mall & Mall at Millenia Apple stores were with international tourists? Just absolutely insane and unable to move in the store.
Wow good point. Looks like there is a market with that much volume. I'm sure if they built there it would be an amazing looking store.

My guess is this "omission" is more about how big of a slice of the pie the mouse wants as opposed to a lack of demand for an Apple Store.
This. Both Apple and Disney are used to dictating their terms when it comes to retail. In many instances Apple pays below market rates for rent because of the traffic they drive. Disney demands higher rents and often a cut of the revenue.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall in that meeting;)

What Goof said - Its all about how big of a piece Disney wants. I'd be rather shocked if one doesnt open.... as there was supposed to be on at the ill-fated Flamingo Crossings.

Hi Folks,

When all of the plans for Disney Springs were released, I was expecting to see an Apple Store. I thought it was an obvious choice. I mean, they always generate traffic, they are "hip", Apple is a large shareholder in Disney IIRC. It made a lot of sense to me. Yet it didn't happen. Thoughts?

I believe he was referring to the shares owned by Steve Job's wife from the sale of Pixar, not shares owned by Apple itself. As recent as 2 years ago she still held a 7.5% stake in Disney worth at the time close to $10B (more than twice what her stake in Apple was worth ironically). If her stake now dropped below 5% of the company because she sold some/all of the shares she would no longer be on the list. Either way it's not technically Apple that owns a stake in Disney, just Apple's founder's estate.

I'm on holiday late September so there is a good chance I will be in US when iPhone 7 launches. Just can't decide if buying in USA but using it in UK is going to be easy enough due to the different frequencies.

There are a couple of open already built spots in Disney Springs, and only one building that hasn't been built yet, unless they expand into an new area. So if Apple is coming, we are running out of places it could be.
