Wanda's official response to Disney's Memorial Day statement regarding "these illegal and substandard imitations":

Recently some media publications reported that Nanchang Wanda Cultural Tourism City’s Wanda Park illegally used some Disney characters for promotional purposes. After our investigation we found that the reports were seriously distorted.

Media reports say that Disney characters appeared within Wanda Park. This is inaccurate. The characters in question appeared in the business area of the Wanda Mall inside the Nanchang Wanda Cultural Tourism City. Nanchang Wanda Cultural Tourism City, or Nanchang Wanda City, is a multi-business complex that houses Wanda Mall, an outdoor theme Park, hotel resorts, a bar street, etc. Wanda Park, which is a combination of the theme park, ocean park and movie park, has never used any Disney characters for display or promotion.

Some relevant stores within the Wanda Mall use Disney characters on some merchandise and for promotional purposes. The use is officially licensed by Disney. No infringement has occurred. [emphasis added]

Dalian Wanda Group attaches high importance to the protection of intellectual property rights, and Nanchang Wanda City owns several cartoon characters with their own intellectual properties. Wanda regrets the emergence of groundless accusations from certain media and reserves the right to pursue legal action.
So,
Bob's findings were based on a picture.

Wanda's findings were based on an investigation.

Good work Bob.

That's probably a bit of a stretch. Infringers often claim their use is legal and if this was a third-party claiming proper use would be a way to avoid embarrassing a powerful figure.
However, right or wrong, the determination of infringement is found within the legal juristiction where infringement occurred.

In this case, Bob is picking a fight where he will not win.

Trouble is it's a fight between a MMA champion and a nerdy 8 year old, With Disney playing the nerdy 8 year old. It's not gonna be pretty

The Question should be asked why did members of this board predict ALL these things when the 'Smartest Guys In The Room' had absolutely no clue that this would happen. Seems like Disney needs a new Board and Executive management if they could not predict this very predictable chain of events.

Not normally one to complain. There had been a pretty good discussion about Disney and Shanghai and all of the sudden we were talking about the Secret Life of Pets... didn't make sense to me

To be fair, I was only briefly mentioning SLOP as @Mike S brought that up due to him thinking of Comcast seeking to announce more of other things (IE, SLOP, Dragons Challenge Upgrades, Nintendo) rather than than announcing the third park (which seems fully in development thanks to the acquisition of the land near OCCC).

It sounds better than I was expecting. I just hope that they keep the story simple but enjoyable for everyone.

Page Six reporting that Rogue One is not testing well and has ordered four weeks of re-shoots for the film... insiders say Disney is blaming Director Gareth Edwards, he is known for the recent Godzilla movie. The common belief was that the young director had proven he could produce a blockbuster film in the mega movie studio environment with little oversight from the studio. After a bad first cut it seems Disney now wants more say and is insisting on the resort and changes.

It's Page Six, Lucasfilm would have the oversight not Disney, and movies usually don't test 6 months out prior to release.

...none at all?

:hilarious:

I wouldn't be surprised if the Shendi Group has been feeding all of Disney's intellectual property to Wanda this whole time.

It's like when the Chinese government demanded to look at Apple's code for their iOS operating system. Ahem, for "security reasons".
But thats no different from USA doing the same to other tech.
Like when they demanded to have all the firewall and antivirus master keys and holes "for security reasons".
Plus blocking a lot of routers and firewalls made in china to ensure they have no chinese backholes.

And there is absolutely NO REASON why Disney does not or did not know this previous to getting into bed with them.

When a huge wave of 'unauthorized' Disney merch floods through Shanghai- outside the gates of SDL- they have no one but themselves to blame... and it sounds like no way of stopping their IP from being used for any purpose by any one.
Sure, but it doesn't necessarily follow that Disney shouldn't pursue profitable business opportunities in China just because others will also seek to profit off it by essentially steeling their intellectual property. Anything they do in China which makes their products more popular will encourage more knock-offs. Don't get me wrong; I think building a Disney park in the middle of China is risky for all sorts of reasons. I would have thought Disney would have factored in this stealing of their IP into the equation, however, and I'm sure it was happening anyway without them being able to do much about it.
