Why are you conflating a director protecting himself from an online lynch mob of bad faith actors to journalism, which had to endure both professional and additional legal scrutiny, by Ronan Farrow?

What do they have in common?

They both are news stories that have happened this weekend that I haven't seen mentioned, and both directly relate to/are developments in, different topics we have been covering in the past few days/weeks. One, the "tweet-gate" scandals/Gunn/etc., and two, #metoo or whatever you want to call it.

I wasn't "conflating" them any way beyond that. I separated them with several lines the way I did in one post instead of double-posting. I actually almost said "news of the weekend..." or whatever, but then I figured that most folks would realize that.

I am sorry if that was not clear, but I do find it ironic that you would jump to that conclusion, as I am the first to state the difference between saying bad words/feelings and actual accusations of physical assault.

On the actual topic of Rian's deletions...I do think it was a poor move on his part, because he just painted a great big frigging target on his back. To think that they haven't already been archived is kind of naive - so this indeed may be The Streisand Effect in motion.

Gee, honestly - his friend isn't helping LOL. "Nothing more to see..." is how that is going to be read by the "other" side. And let's be honest - if anyone did this, people would be suspicious. I personally doubt there is anything there (or it would have come up previously), but that doesn't change the optics and either "side" would use that to their advantage. Just the very fact of we wouldn't even be talking about him and his tweets if he hadn't deleted them.

What I am most confused about is that I don't know how suddenly we have forgotten in 2018 what we knew in 2008, and frankly, by 1998, - that you can't "delete" stuff from the Internet. Especially when you have nearly a million followers, many of whom get notifications, updates on their mobile devices, etc., every time you click "send".

Did they happen to be tweets where he acted all high and mighty about TLJ talking down to SW fans? A lot of people that work for LucasFilm might start doing the same unless they want another movie to bomb like Solo, lol.

Every tweet up to late 2017 is archived in the Library of Congress.

I think two different parts of that get lumped together.

1. You can dislike and even hate TLJ. I don't think anyone cares about personal preference. I think there are folks who passionately love it as much as some folks passionately hate it. I don't really think that is a bad thing.
2. Folks who dislike/hate it don't get permission to wish real world harm on Rian Johnson, the Story Group or Kennedy. I think those are generally the folks who are labeled or try to come across as victims.

We've seen plenty of TLJ discussions on these boards, that are strong debates that don't devolve into personal attacks. I realize that does happen, but let's not pretend that just disliking the movie automatically makes anyone into a victim.

Things I am tired of reading about on this forum (News and Rumors)-

  • Literally anything related to TLJ (good or bad)
  • Disney/Universal Marvel contract (98% of the characters aren’t coming to WDW, please stop bringing it up on the rumors board)
  • “Black Panther fits in Animal Kingdom”- no it doesn’t
It’s getting exhausting. There are plenty of threads on other parts of the forum for the first two to be discussed, third one should just stop being a point of conversation.
