You have to look at it another way. Oscars tend to be political more so than just on the merit of how great film is. Shape of Water while visually beautiful etc for me lacked a depth compared to Call Me By Your Name (on your list as well) which is based on the same topic just told between two humans instead of human and a fish person. Whereas, Get Out hit a major political point coming out during a time of perceived increased racial unrest etc as well as pointed out prejudice even if positive is still prejudice.
I cannot find Call Me By Your Name anywhere near me, and it’s so frustrating. I really want to see it.

Get Out is a movie that is really good, but it doesn’t fit the Academy ‘mold’. A horror movie hasn’t won since Silence of the Lambs. With the competition it’s against, I don’t see it winning Best Picture.

I’m curious to see what the Academy does with 3 Billboards. It’s probably one of the films I won’t see, based on the feedback I heard from a couple of film buff friends.

I really wanted to like Get Out. I thought it was extraordinary that a horror film could attract so much attention. Imagine an artistic horror movie with elements of humor and add in a good dose of social critique. Sounded great...

Ehhh. I was not thrilled. The lead up was intriguing although I was confused by how easy it was to solve the mystery and then the twist which kind of disjointed the impact of the first part of the film. Overall I was disappointed.

BTW anybody see The Breadwinner (nominated for best animated feature)? That sounds incredible, not only the story by the way they used the medium (s).

They’re just not interested over there, and that’s fine. Stop trying to make ‘fetch’ happen, Disney, they’re clearly not interested. Marvel and Pixar can be the moneymakers over there instead
It is interesting that the mantra at B schools is that China loves all things American. Clearly that is not the case.

Walt Disney Animation is giving the staff a “Day of Listening” on Thursday February 1. Kim Masters reports that John’s pretty much toast, but Disney management wants to first check with the staff to see if he could come back. Pete Doctor and one, possibly two, Directors like Andrew Stanton or Byron Howard or Jennifer Lee could serve in the Chief Creative Officer role for the two studios.

I am all for new leadership. John's issue's aside I think it was time for a creative shakeup.
