A Quick Dose of Magic to Hold Me Over till December

Hi everyone, and welcome to my TR… For those of you who do not know me, my name is Reese. I am a single mother to a very handsome 8 year old son, Devon!!! He is the light in my life and I am so glad that he has the Disney bug like his mommy!!!
I figured I’d start with how this trip came about. You see I am surprising Devon with a trip to Disney in December as an “early Christmas gift” We are going December 3rd (my birthday) to December 11th. We are staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge and are traveling with Devon’s best friend and his mom! I plan to tell Devon about the trip on Thanksgiving day which is a week before we leave! Not sure how I am going to surprise him exactly yet, but who cares about that right now! Anyway, being that Devon doesn’t know about the Dec trip he has been asking since school let out what we are doing for vacation. And my response had been… “You know mommy is super busy at work b/c it is an election year, so we really only can do day trips on the weekend this summer.” Well, Devon seemed to be fine with that response, but as we got into the 2nd week of July, he says to be mom you know we haven’t done anything yet this summer, what are we going to do??? Ok, so at this point I really needed to start figuring out where the heck I was going to take this boy for a mini vacation… We live in Philadelphia, which is a little less then 2 hours from the Jersey Shore, so I figured I’d just take him there (we usually make a trip there once a summer)… Anyway, as I started pricing out places to stay, how much it was going to cost me on the boardwalk to ride rides and play games all weekend and feed us, it was going to cost me well over $1000!!! I just could not justify paying that much $$$ to go to the stinking shore for 3 days!!!
Well, at that point the wheels in my head started turning and I said to myself I bet I can do a long weekend in Disney for cheaper!!! I wanted to do this as cheap as possible since we are going in December, so I called Disney and asked them if I could use the same % off pin code that I used for my December trip if I wanted to do a room only reservation in August??? ( I only needed a room only b/c I planned to use our Give a Day Get a Day vouchers to get us into MK) They looked it up and said absolutely!!! So I asked if there was any availabilty at All Star Sports for August 12th to the 16th? The CM said there was so I asked her to hold the room for me that I just needed to get a few things in order. I immediately hung up the phone with her, priced the airfare out and called my friend who works at a TV station in Miami to see if he would be able to get us free passes to Universal. He said he could!!! Woo Hoo!!! At this point I called my brother Tim to see if he wanted to come with us! Every year we go to Disney he always wants to come, but b/c we have been going in the fall and winter the last few years, he hasn’t been able to join us with his college class schedule. I ran the details by him and told him how much it would cost him and he didn’t hesitate for a second!!! YES!!! Looks like we are going to Disney and Universal!!!! Oh and by the way, the whole trip did end up costing me less then it would have to go to the shore!!!
I booked the trip the 3rd week in July, told Devon all about it and I was told I was the BEST MOM IN THE WHOLE WORLD!!! Now all we had to do was wait a little less then a month and we would be on our way!!!

Departure Day!!! Thursday August 12th
Since I have to take off more then a week for our December trip, I decided that I would book a later flight to Orlando so I could work at least a ½ day today. Our flight was scheduled to depart Philly International at 7:10pm. Of course today is an overcast day with pop up showers expected all day!!! Just great!!! I dropped Devon off at the babysitter and headed to the train, I work in the city so I get to make my lovely commute by train everyday!!! By the time I got to the train station the skies opened up!!! Lovely!!! I can see the delays at the airport happen as we speak!!! As soon as I get in the office I jump on to PHL’s website to see what kind of delays there are already… There are a few but my flight seems to be right on schedule! YES!!!! By the time lunch time rolled around, it cleared up and I was about ready to jump out of my skin!!! All I wanted to do was go home and leave for vacation!!! Luckily, it was pretty busy for the rest of the afternoon and before I knew it it was time to leave!!! But before I go, let me just check one more time to see if my flight is still on time. It was!!! I say my good byes to my work family and run, for the train!!! Thanks to some texting back and forth with blacktheidiot my train ride was super quick! Even though I was about to beat the crap out of the chick sitting next to me b/c she was cracking and chewing her gum like a freaking cow!!! Anyway, back to the story… Picked Devon up from the babysitter, ran home to get changed, took out the trash, grabbed our bags and was out the door to pick my brother Tim up!!! Woo hoo!!! We live not even 10 minutes from the airport so we headed to my parent’s so my oldest brother John could drop us off at the airport. We put are bags in his car and we were off!!!
We arrived at the airport a few minutes after five, not bad considering I didn’t end up leaving work till 4pm!!! We said see you later to my brother and headed inside!! One thing I swore I would not do this trip was check bags since we were only going for 5 days. So, once we got into the airport, we headed straight to the security check point… While waiting in line, I glance up at the departure screen only to see that our flight is delayed till 11:47pm!!! WHAT!!! Are you kidding me??? It was on schedule not even an hour ago!!! At this point I am freaking out just a bit! WTH am I going to do in the airport with an 8 year old for all these hours??? UGH great start to the trip!!! But then…. As I am putting the baggage up to go thru the scanner thingy, a light bulb when off!!! The flight to Orlando that was scheduled to leave a few hours before our original departure time was also delayed and that flight was now leaving at 6:21p!!! That was in like 45 minutes!!! We grabbed our bags and ran thru the terminal to the gate that the 621p flight was leaving from… Out of breathe at this point, I compose myself and calmly, ok semi-calmly as the nice gentleman at the gate if there was anyway we could get on this flight instead?? He asked my how many people, I told him 3. He then asked if I had checked bags, to which I replied NO!!! He said, I was making his life very easy… He punched away at the keyboard and I prayed as he was doing this… Then he says… You’re in luck, I think I can make this happen for you!!! THANK YOU DEAR GOD!!! He tells me the only seats left were the last row in the plane… Fine by me!!! We handed over our boarding passes for our original flight and he handed us knew ones. At this point it was a little after 6 and we were going to start boarding in a few minutes… We hightailed it to McDonalds for some food and ate while we waited to board.

Here’s us waiting

Our Plane, which Devon thought was pretty cool!!!

001.JPG

Finally boarding!!!

Tim and Devon waiting to take off!!!

005.JPG

So, remember how I said we were suppose to take off at 6:21pm… Well, that did not happen… Air traffic was all backed up, so we pretty much sat on the tarmac in line to take off!!! We finally lifted off around 7:30p. Not to bad I guess, considering we could have still been sitting in the airport!!

The flight was pretty uneventful and before we knew it, the captain had come over the loud speaker to say that we were beginning our desent into Orlando!!! It was about 9:15p at this point.
We landed just about at 9:30p. Since we were in the last seat of the plane we were one of the last people off the plane, oh well gave me a minute to call my parents to let them know we arrived safely. We grabbed our bags and headed to the tram to take us over to the main airport so we could hop on the Magical Express!!!

Here is Devon and Tim on the tram at MCO
006.JPG

Devon said the cutest thing on the Tram ride.... He said “mom, doesn’t it feel good to be back at our second home” I just smiled and sais “Yes it does”!!!
Since we had our ME docs, we walked right up to the podium and were directed to the ME bus that would take us to All Star Sports. Once on the bus we waited probably 15-20 minutes for the bus to lad up and we were on our way with All Star Sports being the first stop. After a quick 20 minute ride we were were pulling thru the gates of the All Star Resort !!! Woo hoo!!! Collected our bags from under the bus, thanked the bus driver and walked into All Star Sports!!! We were finally there!!!
I proceeded to the online check in area and was helped right away.
Here’s Devon looking around while I checked us in!

007.JPG

Check in went smoothly, we were given a room in the basketball section, but I had requested to say in either the baseball or the football section, since they are Dev’s two favorite sports. I kindly asked the if we could be moved to one of those locations, she made a phone call and we were moved to the fooball section!!! YAY!!! We were on our way!!!

Here is where we would call home for the next few days!!!

Day 2 Continued

Hi Everyone!!! Sorry that I haven't been able to post an update, but work has been crazy and with Mr. Devon having football every night of the week and homework on top of that, I just haven't had the time to devote anytime to my Disney addiction!!!

Without further delay, lets get moving here... Ok, so last I left off we were about to head over to swim at the Surf pool. By this point of the day, it was SUPER HOT and I was so hoping for a lounge chair under an umbrella where I could relax and watch the boys swim! Yeah no such luck, so we grabbed a few lounge chairs and we all jumped in the pool!!! Yep, even I had to get in the water... It was just too hot!!!

After swimming for a 1/2 hour or so I noticed a couple getting up from there lounge chairs that were under an umbrella, so I made a beeline to get there seats!!!

Here are a few pics that I took while lounging in the shade!!!

185.JPG

186.JPG

It was at this point that Tim and Devon decided that they were hungry so I suggested we order a pizza! They were game for that so I went and ordered the pizza and they continued to swim. The pizza was ready in about 15 minutes and boy oh boy was it delish!!!

187.JPG

After a YUMMY lunch I decided that I was going to head back to the room to start getting ready for our evening at DTD!!! Tim and Devon wanted to continue to swim and decided they'd walk back with me and continue swimming at the baseball pool!!

Yeah, you know how I said I was going back to the room to start getting ready... Well I sat down on the bed and fell asleep!!!! Opps!!!! I guess I needed that hour long cat nap!!! I knew the boys would be coming back to the room and would freak if I wasn't getting ready, b/c apparently I take entirely too long! LOL!!! So I quickly jumped in the shower and was getting out just as the boys came bombarding into the room. Of course Tim was exhausted now and Devon wanted ice cream now!!! While Tim laid down I took Devon for some ice cream!!!

188.JPG

As you can see, Tim is passed out in the background!!! Stupid kid didn't put sun screen on like I told him to and he got BURN, so needless to say he was feeling like crap... I gave him 2 Tylenol and told him to rest while I finished getting ready!!!

My handsome man ready for our night out!!!

189.JPG

I don't know, maybe it is just me but I swear I feel like no matter which resort we stay at the bus to DTD seems to take forever to finally show up!!

Here's Devon hamming it up for the camera waiting for the bus!!

190.JPG

191.JPG

The bus to DTD FINALLY showed up about 30 minutes later so we all eagerly hopped on the bus. This was the only time thus far on this trip that we had a shared bus and had to stop at the other 2 All Star Resort... This didn't bother me though, I had my seat and we still had plenty of time to make our ressie at T-Rex!!!

After an uneventful ride we pulled up to DTD Marketplace!!! Yeah!!! Here are a few pics I snapped while walking to dinner!

Cute report!!

You got some pretty great fireworks pictures, sorry about the red-hat guy! And I kwym about Peter Pan...you'd think that the loading process wouldn't be too inefficient since it is constantly moving. Hmmm, oh well, that is what FPs are for, right?!? :)

Devon is such a darn cute kid! I swear you described my life...my son is also in football and he gets home from practice just STANKIN'!! And don't get me started on his stinky shoes(it was a rainy practice/game 3 days last week!).

I love that pic of the guy at the pool. Call me crazy but I can't resist taking pictures of silly people either. LOL :drevil:

I totally agree with Peter Pan, I don't get it, there is just no reason why the darn line always has to be so LONG!!!

Thanks!!! :ROFLOL: OMG it was raining last night and Devon came home all wet and stinky!!! I made him leave strip down out front and put ALL his football stuff in his dad's car NO WAY was it coming in my house to stink it up!!! Stinky is actually in the shower now!!! LOL

I know!!! I don't know what it is I have to take those pics too!!! It's just too hard to resist!!!

Hey everyone, I know I been a bit of a slacker with the August TR, but work for me these days has taken over my life.... LITERALLY!!! I swear I am only in my house to sleep anymore!!! But hey it's paying for our Disney trip!!!

Ok, enough babbling, have a few minutes before I have to get ready for Devon's football game, so I figured I do a quick update. Hope ya'll enjoy!

So last I left offer we were about to have dinner with the dinosaurs....

When we walked up to the podium, I started to get really nervous as there were a LOT of people sitting and standing around to get in, all I thought was man we are going to be waiting FOREVER!!! But, to my surprise, I gave them my name and they said right this way!!! YAY!!! We waited maybe for 10 minutes tops to be seated!!

Here are a few pictures I took while we waited...

And here is the view from our table

It was so cool... the ice cave changed colors!

Our waitress was very nice and quick, we placed or drink orders and food orders together and the wait for each was minimal... They were really moving people in and out for a Saturday night!

Here is Mr. Devon with this drink

208.JPG

What a chore that was packing to come home on a plane! LOL!!!

It's not the best shot, but, every 20 minutes or so, there is a meteor shower, this is the best I got pic wise, but it is really neat to see in person.

209.JPG

210.JPG

While we waited for our food, Devon asked if we could go look around the rest of the place, so of course I said yes, as it was an opportunity to take more pics!!!

Overall impression of T-Rex.... Will definitely be going back again!!! Matter to fact we are!!! I was posting pic of the place on facebook while we were there and my friend Jenn who is coming with us in December texted me and said I want to eat there in December, so as soon as I got home from this trip I called and booked ressies for the day we arrive, 12/3, which just happens to be my birthday!!!

Back to the report... With our bellies now food we continued our adventures through DTD!!!

227.JPG

228.JPG

We were actually suppose to eat here, but opted for T-Rex instead as we are picky eaters and weren't sure we would like it here...

What a cool store this was!!! Devon went back and forth for about 20 minutes trying to decide if he wanted to make a car our not... At the end of the day, he opted not too, as he said he'd probably never play with it at home. Smart kid!

Back story on pics of the mini coup... Tim has wanted a mini coup for years and years and still says it will be the first car he buys... Anyway, if you look real close the car is actually called "Fireball Tim" So, we just had to get pics with the car! LOL!!!

243.JPG

244.JPG

245.JPG

Of course we just had to go to the lego store...

246.JPG

Tim ran into a girl he goes to school with so he chatted with her and her family while we explored the store... Again Devon had about 10 things he wanted to buy but just couldn't decide if he wanted to spend his money or not. It is truly amazing how much kids ponder over buying something when it is their own money they are spending!!!

After being in the mad house that is the DTD Lego store, we met back up with Tim and headed to where else... The World of Disney Store!!!

248.JPG

Oh the wall of Dooney's... I seriously had to show some major restraint here and NOT buy another one!!!

And of course we had to stop by, Goofy's Candy Co.

I think I go into sugar shock every time I enter this store!!! Ummmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our last store before heading back to the resort for the night was

It is a tradition of mine to get Devon an ornament from Disney on every trip we go on... I usually have it personalized, but being we were leaving on Monday, it wouldn't be ready in time, that's ok, I'll just get another one in December! I just love decorating the tree and reliving on the memories of past trips when I see all the ornaments we have collected over the years!!! Yes, Yes, I know, I'm a sentimental wierdo!

And there you have it folks... Our night at DTD!!!

Summing up the evening.... It was a great relaxing night! Dinner was great, the weather was perfect for strolling in and out of the shops and even Tim said he had a fun night, even though he wasn't his usually self from the sun burn!

Coming up next... Taking flight with Harry at Universal!!!

I LOVE that Christmas shop. It's a combination of my 2 obesession: Christmas and Disney. We have 2 Christmas trees each year, one being a Disney only tree. It's loaded with ornaments we have bought over the years, and complete with a monorail underneath instead of a train.

I am in love with those apples! I don't remember seeing them last year but they keep popping up in every one's TRs! How much are they? They are too cute to eat!

First off, are you excited for some Phillies playoffs??? :sohappy: Another Red October in Philly!! YAY!!! Super excited, heading down to the game on Friday night!!!

Ok back to Disney.... I only have one tree and it is a mixture of Disney and Eagles ornaments! My parents buy me an annual Eagles ornament from the Danbury Mint and I just love looking at my tree b/c their are just so many memories of Disney trips and times spent with my family! Man is it Christmas time yet??? Now I want to decorate! :ROFLOL: Thinking I probably put up the Halloween decorations first huh? LOL!!!

Not 100% sure how much the apple taffys are but they have definitely been there for the last 3 years now. They look so yummy!

Ahh! Yes!! :sohappy: I have a season ticket plan so I was lucky enough to score tickets to 2 games of the NLCS and game 6 of the World Series! Hopefully it turns out better than the WS game I went to last year...wet and a loss :(

My husband actually gave me a personalized bride and groom Mickey & Minnie ornament as one of my wedding gifts. I told him that with that he gave me permission to put it on our tree. I plan on getting another one for our first Christmas together this year as a married couple, but he doesn't know that yet.

I can't wait to hear your impressions on IOA and Harry!

LOVE the trip report and pictures...looks like you guys had a blast!!! Makes me wish my next trip was closer than 155 days away. :(

So you would recommend eating at T-Rex to someone who's never been before? Awesome pictures from inside there by the way. Your meals look AMAZING in the pics! :slurp: We looked around the place last trip in March 2009, but didn't have a reservation and the place was packed. Am wondering if I should make a reservation now for our March 2011 trip.

Loving this trip report!! I am also from the Philly area (grew up in Bucks, live downtown now) and agree that the shore is just as expensive! I am a HUGE beach bum... but WDW would win out EVERY time!

Love the phils gear too.
GO PHILLIES!!! :)
