A Poutine Less Trip Report: Four Days of Zoology, Deluxe Resorts and Lots of Rain

And so I am back. While I do love typing up these reports, to do so means that you have to be back from your trip :(. However this was another successful trip and my 10th to the World. So it is official, I have now hit double digits! So may consider that a bit much but I say the more the merrier.

Tim was at home this time, which was a bit of a bummer after introducing him to the World. Everything that we did, I wished he was there and wanted him to experience everything that we were. It just solidifies how much I want him to be by my side for all trips. However, he was extremely supportive of me needing a much needed break from what is currently my reality and the stress that is flooding my life. He had jetted out to Vegas a month or two prior and knew how much fun I would have down there. When the opportunity presented itself to have a mini getaway with one of my best friends, he did not hesitate at all. He told me to have fun, not think of work and enjoy myself.

So on this trip, we had myself. To refresh of those who don't really know me, here's a brief bit of info:

100_3765.jpg

I work in Food & Beverage, am a massive Foodie, a HUGE kid and lover of all things Disney. Mary Poppins is my all time favorite Disney character and Disney movie, followed closely by Toy Story and then UP. I am also a big Star Wars and Pirates fan. I am by no means a girlie girl and would rather by a pirate then a princess any day.

Although Tim could not join me for this trip, I had the absolute next best option. I re-introduce to you...dah dah dah dah... Jennie!

100_5580.jpg

Jennie and I have been friends for almost 15 years. We met at our Dance School and have stayed such great friends throughout the years. She dropped in during my last trip in October several times with her boyfriend and this time was a ladies trip! Jennie left for the Disney College program 8 years ago and had been bitten by the Disney bug ever since. She is now a cast member and loves all things Disney as well. Like me, a giant kid and the biggest Star Wars fan I have ever met. It is completely her fault that I am the Star Wars fan that I am. She took three days off to hang and play with me. It amazes me and thrills me that she still enjoys playing in the parks as much as I do. Thankfully she put up with my craziness for these days and all the photos that came with it.

So here we go! Because this here is the wettest wild in all the wilderness!!!! :sohappy:

Chandler - OK Joe I gotta ask...hot girl from xerox place buck naked (one hand)...or a big tub of jam?(other hand)
Joey - put those hands together!

:ROFLOL: i love Friends! Best show ever. I always make FRIENDS references wherever I go...and my boyfriend just rolls his eyes and says "friends?" Great jam reference! I won't be able to go in that store without thinking of this now. Excellent TR by the way. Glad to see you didn't let the rain get you down!

And about taking your man to Disney...I know what you mean! It's fantastic! My boyfriend had gone once before I took him w/his school. And when I took him he was like "wow, I missed so much before...it's a totally different experience. This is how a vacation should be." 3 trips later just us now we are taking his sister and her boyfriend and I get to introduce them to everything again (same deal - they've been once a long time ago) and I'm super excited!

I quote Friends ALL THE TIME!!!! Love it! :sohappy: Glad to know I'm not alone. Thanks for reading and for the compliments! Yeah Tim was at Disneyland once back in the day and had a horrible experience with it. Apparently strollers ramming into his ankles and making them bleed. Kinda stunk. :(

I'm loving your TR! and I'm definitely loving the food even more! OMG that breakfast!!! I don't know what the heck it is (other than the mickey waffle, eggs and bacon and the potatoes) but it sure makes me want to eat breakfast... even though it's 6 pm where I am.

Keep it coming, and pleeeeaaassseee if you have more food pics, even if they're really blurry, post them!

Thank you so much! The other thing on the plate is biscuits and gravy...it's one of my Disney treats that I never ever eat anywhere else. Oh and don't you worry...there's a lot more food left to come!

LOVE the TR!!! :sohappy: Also a big fan of the Wawa umbrella...haven't seen anything like that since I moved from the wonderful Garden State years ago. Of course I was farther north, but we had a summer house in Ocean County, so we know Wawa! Also a fan of Wolfgang Puck! He was in Houston a few years ago opening a restaurant (which has since closed) and doing a book signing- so, I stopped in and got a chance to meet him. It was so neat to see him offering up samples to fans, discussing flavor profiles/foundations and prep with everyone. Love the Friends reference...I was making a test cake for DH's bday the other day and while making a jam/preserves based filling- that line from Joey immediately popped into my mind.

Can't wait to read more!

Enjoying your trip so far! I hope you got some reprieve from the rain. I had to comment on this picture. I have lived in the South my entire life, but my husband is from Maryland. I remember the first time that he mentioned Wawa, and I thought, 'I'm sorry, wa-what?' I honestly thought it was a nickname for some store back where he is from. However, I have since seen one and purchased a bottle of water from it just to say that I did. Hah!

Looking forward to reading more!

Great trip report! And I have to agree Disney is always fun in the rain! Another ride that is fun in the rain is the Peoplemover :)

And I just might have to take you up on that baseball cap when it rains..sometimes my hood did stay up easily the day it rained when I was there this past January

Can't wait to read the rest!

Thank you! The rain reprieve is coming, I promise. Yeah first timers to hearing Wawa always think we're nuts, but once you start going, you are converted!
Thanks for following along!

Ok so after the new purchase, we made our way to one of my all time favorites, Pirates. Pirates is my strongest memory of my first Disney experience. I remember being terrified to go in but then afterwards, wanting to ride it over and over again. It was so awesome!

100_5795.jpg

There was a whole section of the ride that was dark...during one of the areas where the ladies chase the men. There was nothing and it totally kinda broke the ride in half. Bit of a bummer. Anyways, we wandered through the gift shop a bit and I took a shot of the newest change to Adventureland.

100_5796.jpg

I ate there once back in the day however now I don't because I don't eat beef and haven't seen 2001. I understand that they have a vegetarian item or two but can't we get some chicken up in here?

100_5797.jpg

The good news at this point was that the thunder and lightning had stopped. It was still raining but not hard at this point. Just spitting a bit. We made our way over to Frontierland next. As we passed the Golden Oak Outpost on the left, we both realized how great their little menu sounded: Chicken BLT Flatbread, Fried Chicken Sandwich, Vegetarian Flatbread. It was closed at the time but we thought we may need to stop back there later. It sounded YUMMY!

As we approached, we heard screams and saw water coming out of Splash...It was back up!!!!

100_5798.jpg

We all but ran at the point to get there. Through much of the day, I thought this would be a trip where we just wouldn't get to do either because of the rain. As we approached, we heard a family asking which one should they do? The father commented, "Come on we don't want to get wet". Really Dad? Really? Little late for that.

100_5799.jpg

The wait time was 5 minutes for Splash. AMAZING! We did get a kick out of the signage going in...

100_5800.jpg

Um, at this point it's a lost warning.

100_5801.jpg

We literally walked on to the ride and other then one guy by himself, had the log to ourselves. The new lap bars are different. It feels weird to not be holding on to the handles like before honestly. But who really cares with such a great ride! And of course we got the front row so we did get a good splash of water to the face. Of course we were already soaked at this point. Now our faces were drenched. So literally the only part of me that wasn't soaked was the torso region. We didn't care though, we were still having a blast!

100_5803.jpg

Not really sure why the two of us look drunk here...hmmmm.

100_5804.jpg

I was really happy they opened this and we got a ride in. Next up was Thunder Mountain, which is really up there on my Top 5 list, might just be my favorite. It's just so much fun! Again, we walked right on to this one and headed out. If I thought riding the tram in the parking lot was interesting in the rain, this one takes the cake! Water everywhere! I tried to keep my eyes open as much as I could, but all both of us could do was laugh. It was so funny riding this in the rain! This trip had really become interesting so far. It started out with me thinking that everywhere would be packed and it completely changed. We were walking on to E Ticket rides with absolutely no wait times at all. We were stomping through rain puddles with no one around. It was really clear at this point how many people had left since the day starting due to the down pour. We were both loving it!

We made our way through the General Store in Frontierland which is LOADED with my cookies that I love. However, both of us were feeling the funnel cake sitting in our stomachs. Maybe it was that or it getting tossed around on both Splash and Thunder. Both of us have been watching our food intake and working out prior to this trip so to have some fried dough was probably a shock for our system. We didn't get anything but continued on to the Pin Trading spot in Frontierland. The shop was empty! Jen even commented that she had never seen a pin store so abandoned. The staff made a fuss over us and I found a Carl Fredrickson & Dug pin that I ended up not seeing anywhere else on the trip! Sweet!

We had now pretty much done everything in the park so far that we wanted to do. Jungle Cruise seemed to be down for the day so we decided to make our way back to Fantasyland to try to do Peter Pan & Pooh. Being that the rest of the park was so empty, maybe we had a shot.

100_5808.jpg

Peter Pan only had about a 15 minute wait..not bad for an attraction that usually averages 45 minutes every time I walk by.

100_5809.jpg

We hopped on, sailed through London & Neverland and came back down to Earth. Next up, Pooh! I was excited to see the new Queue space for this as it was just a wall last trip. We both had a blast playing with the new stuff.

100_5813.jpg

For those of you who may not know, Tim's favorite is Pooh. One of the few moments I couldn't wait for last trip was to see him meet Pooh for the first time. He was as excited as an 8 year old! While we were wandering the Magic Kingdom, he asked if we could go in the Pooh store. I answered, "Do you want to go in there after the Pooh ride?" "There's a Pooh ride!? He gets his own ride!? You didn't tell me!!" He didn't want me to tell him anything before the last trip! For this reason though, I took a good deal of photos in this spot.

100_5814.jpg

100_5815.jpg

If the two of us, grown women, could have such fun playing with this, I can only imagine how much the kids enjoy it. There wasn't a lot around us at this point. Truth be told we could have gotten on this ride within 5 minutes, it took us 10 with all the playing.

100_5817.jpg

100_5821.jpg

I think this part was my favorite, big screens that look like honey. When you press your hand on it, it makes an imprint in the honey. It was fun to play with!

100_5825.jpg

Time to jump in a honey pot!

100_5826.jpg

We got right in and had the pot to ourselves!

100_5827.jpg

More to come tomorrow! The end of Day 2 and hopefully the beginning of Day 3. I don't go in to work until late tomorrow night so I'll have more time to write!

100_5830.jpg

So we hopped through the World of Pooh and Friends for a little ride. So much fun!

100_5834.jpg

100_5836.jpg

After wandering through the gift shop, we decided to go back to Tomorrowland and try to hit up Space again. The wait was 10 minutes, not bad at all! We hopped in the standby line and noticed that ponchos were being take off as people were boarding. Hmm...strange. As we approached the loading area, we were also told to remove our ponchos as well. We asked why as we rode with them before. We were then told that we should have been told to remove ours as then as well. So off they came. It was nice being freed from the poncho finally!

Now, I'm sure the folks who watch surveilance for this ride surely got a show during this. I won't get into details...but let's just say in Outer Space, gravity still exists....

We got out, played a bit more in the gift shop and headed out. We then saw a sight that I have never seen...Mickey & Minnie doing photo ops together! We ran over and jumped in line. I had never seen both together for pictures and was kinda excited. I didn't think I'd see Mickey during this trip because of the short amount of time. They dipped away for a second and this Dad in front of us all but flipped out on the poor cast member. "It's been raining all day and my kids have been waiting! What are you doing!!!" The poor cast member handled it so well. I felt really bad for her.

So they made their way out seconds later! And there they were!

100_5844.jpg

100_5845.jpg

I kinda upset Minnie a bit there because I kissed her man in front of her. Oh well, she got over it very quickly! The rain had stopped...and all was right in the World! True, everything was soaked, but it was finally cleared. We were so happy. And apparently so was everyone else because people came out of the wood work at this point. It's a good thing we went and hit up all the rides while the park was empty because it totally packed up! It was open until 1am that night so I understand folks wanting to take opportunity to hit up things once it cleared up. So after a quick spin on Buzz again, WHERE I DOMINATED...HIGHEST SCORE EVER, we ran to find a spot for the Electrical Main Street Parade.

100_5847.jpg

We got a good one too, right at Partners Circle. And so it began...

Truth be told, I'm a Spectro Magic Fan. We had a really hard time seeing the characters as only pieces of them were lit up. But Jennie was so excited. She hadn't seen it in years and was jumping all around. That made it worth it for me.

100_5886.jpg

100_5922.jpg

100_5924.jpg

Afterwards, we had 15 minutes until the new Castle show. I was excited to see this and Jennie hadn't seen it either. I get a real excitement out of experiencing things with her that she hasn't done yet either. Being that she has been "Disneyfied" for 8 years now, I find it rare that there are things she hasn't seen or done yet. This was a first for both of us and we were equally excited to see it!

100_5931.jpg

I took about 30 shots of the castle when we moved in front of it. Mostly because I don't have a lot of night time shots but another because I just couldn't stop. After 10 trips, it still takes my breath away.

100_5935.jpg

Really excited...and sore! Our legs were killing us at this point!

100_5939.jpg

And it started!

100_5942.jpg

100_5943.jpg

Most of The Magic, The Memories and You is impossible to catch in photos. It is simply stunning. We expected to see a ton of poncho pictures. While there was a lot, most were stock photos. What they manage to do though with graphics, photos and music is AMAZING.

100_5948.jpg

And while we did see some ponchos, there on the side of the castle were two Jersey Girls in their blue ponchos...That's right! We made it on the Castle! Probably because we were some of the few idiots to stop and get photos in the rain! We were SOOO EXCITED!

How great that you got to see yourselves on the Castle!! Can you imagine how many people probably appear there and never know it because they're in another park? (or they completely dork out and totally forget about the show--yes, that's what I did last month; missed it, not because I wasn't there, but because I forgot about it  It's the WDWMagic dungeon for me!! )

I couldn't believe it. I really thought that it would be just families or just kids. I've noticed that two women i.e. My Mom & I or Jen & I don't really get a lot of attention. We were so excited! Thanks for being excited for us!

Conveniently, after the incredible Castle Show, Wishes started 10 minutes after that. We jumped around a while trying to get our legs to stop aching from standing in one stop and then it started.

100_5959.jpg

100_5964.jpg

Wishes gets me EVERY SINGLE TIME. I can't help but getting teary eyed. Last time it was because of how much that trip meant to me. This time it was because I was with one of my best friends in the planet in one of my most favorite places. It always reflects the feeling that the Magic Kingdom exudes and captures your feeling that you get of being there with people that mean so much.

And while my pictures don't and will never even come close to comparing to those of WDWFigment, I think they are my best I have taken so far.

100_5966.jpg

100_5972.jpg

Afterwards, we dried our eyes as Jennie still gets mushy too and we decided on another romp through the Haunted Mansion. Few attractions I feel the need to do multiple times...this is one of them. Plus, I was hoping that with the park being busier, the new queue would be open. And I was right!

100_5974.jpg

I'm not sure if these are supposed to do something...but Jennie liked them!

100_5975.jpg

This one sprayed water, I think it's supposed to be a bathtub, again not really sure.

100_5979.jpg

And you can play the organ, along with a few other instruments at another section.

100_5977.jpg

There was also a spot that had a book that rewrites itself, and a book shelf that the books popped out and when you push them in, more pop out. It was a lot of fun!

We then made our way to Thunder Mountain. This thing had the longest wait time I have seen in Standby. So we made our way back and forth through the lines and I people watched. Here there were guys in their dinner clothes and ladies in their nice clean clothes. You people aren't hardcore! Your socks aren't crusty and wet! Your sneakers aren't squishy and toes aren't pruny!!!! WEAKLINGS!!!!!!

So we took the wildest ride again and then wandered back towards the front of the park. Both of us knew we had to get something to eat but weren't really hungry, just tired. We devised a plan to go to the Poly to hit up Dole Whip, Food & hopefully a cocktail. We cut through to Advetureland again and starting making our way out. We then noticed a photo pass person by an entrance to one of those stores behind Aloha Isle. We kept walking and noticed an entrance next to it for character greeting. It didn't say or who so we wandered in. The one cast member stopped us and then let us in. There behind the curtain was Aurora, Belle & Cinderella. Now we are not Princess loving girls. We were hoping for Aladdin, maybe Genie...who knows?

This ended up being the most awkward character greeting ever.

100_5986.jpg

They asked us if we were looking for Prince Charming. I told them mine was at home. "Is he guarding the Kingdom?" Aurora asked. Ummmm....something like that. Mostly just watching the cats. Yeah....Neither of us are girlie girls. I crack up each time I walk into the "Boys" area of WOD. Toy Story, Pirates, Star Wars...all the things the both of us love! Give me a sword over a tiara any day! I don't want to be a princess, make me a pirate!!!

100_5987.jpg

Picture came out nicely though.

100_5992.jpg

So we made our way towards the front of the park afterwards. As badly as I wanted a Dole Whip right then, I figured I'd wait for the Poly. The Electrical Main Street Parade was making it's way around again.

100_5995.jpg

We cut through the Emporium and looked at a few things as well as did some pin trading while the crowd outside was watching the Parade.

100_5996.jpg

As we were half way through the store, the parade ended and some started flooding in. It didn't seem as bad, maybe the fact that it was almost midnight, maybe most people were on the attractions since they weren't brave enough to stay through the day? Who knows? We wandered out front to Town Square. As Jennie ran to the Ladies Room, I took photos of one of the things I love in the MK...Emporium Windows!

100_5998.jpg

100_6000.jpg

The end of our day in MK was quickly coming to an end. My camera I think was starting to fight back from all the moisture it experienced. Definitely not water proof. I took a few more shots before we headed out.

100_6007.jpg

I was not misty at all at this point...probably just tired. Usually I get emotional leaving the MK, but I think because I knew the vacation wasn't over yet, it held me together.

100_6008.jpg

100_6006.jpg

So we took our final steps and headed out. What a day! Definitely one that would not be forgotten any time soon. As fun as it was, I hope we don't have another one like that next time. We hoped an available monorail and made our way to the Polynesian. It felt AMAZING to sit down, although everything was still soaked on us. The couple across from us looked at us like we were drowned rats. We felt like it!

We arrived at the Poly and headed in for Dole Whip Goodness.

100_6010.jpg

As we started to enter, I realized our plan might not pan out the way we had planned...

100_6011.jpg

Kona & Ohana were completely closed up. The Tambu Lounge Bar was up with just a few people at it. We knew we needed food first though. So we headed down to Captain Cook's for some goodies. As we arrived, we realized that we had missed normal serving times. It was past Midnight at this point, so we were limited to cold foods. At first, I was bummed. I had been hoping to try one of their Flatbreads that I had heard so much of. But I found sushi and Jen opted for a salad. As we were waiting to pay, we noticed a lady in front of us was presented with a flat bread from one of the cast members in the back. Turns out you could still order!

So we purchased our snacks, ordered a flatbread and grabbed our dishes for the Dole Whip that was going to be consumed.

My sushi was Spicy Shrimp and it hit the spot perfectly.

100_6014.jpg

Jen's salad was devoured before I could get a shot and so was our flatbread which was plain cheese. We didn't realize how hungry we were until we sat down. We were FAMISHED!!! All that rain can take a lot out of you!

And then it was time!

100_6012.jpg

The Dole Whip machine is open 24 hours...I LOVE IT!

100_6017.jpg

I mixed a little bit of vanilla in for a Pineapple Creamsicle type thing. And it was delicious as always! We both got ice cream headaches and were freezing by the time we were done but we were victorious! Off we headed out of the resort, but not before Jen found this.

100_6021.jpg

She loves her some Stitch! We made the lovely but long walk to the Transportation Center. I don't know if everyone left already or were still in the park, but this place was deserted. We made our way to the car and made our way home. Talk about exhausted..I passed out in the car on the way home. A soggy but wonderful day. Let's just say that taking off the shoes and socks was a feeling that does not need to be repeated again.

DISGUSTING!

Off to bed we went because we had another early day in the morning!

Wow, Karen, you are definitely hardcore! I'm impressed. It's been such a long time since Brett and I hit the parks with so much intensity. I agree with you on the new castle show, it really is amazing, and it's so exciting that you were there to see your big debut. :) Your princess vs. pirate story cracks me up, but you did get a great picture out of it... to have three princesses together in one shot is unheard of.

I love how your trip reports get taken over by region-specific things, like poutine and Wawa. Can't say I knew what either was before reading your reports. You learn something new every day. I can't wait to read more!

Yeah it cracks me up how my reports get taken over by the little things. I would have never imagine that the Poutine thing would have gotten so out of hand last time! Funny part is, I don't think they offer it anymore now that the menu changed at Le Cellier. And the Princess thing was definitely neat to have, just so awkward to go through. I think we were all around the same age..

Yeah princess meet and greets tend to be the most awkward of them all. I feel more like a creeper waiting in line to meet the princesses than in any other situation. Not to mention I'm always feeling woefully under-dressed when I stand beside them. :ROFLOL:

Thanks for thinking of us while you were at the Poly!

After the Haunted Mansion, people decided to hover under the awning by the exit. The cast member there wasn't having that at ALL. We had no problem jumping back out into the rain and moving forward. We did make a stop in the Smucker's Kitchen store on the corner before heading on. Jennie had to readjust her poncho so I wandered around a bit. This store cracks me up. Cause nothing says I'm here in the Magic Kingdom like buying a jar of Smuckers Jam. If you think I'm joking, I'm not. You can seriously go in and buy a jar of Jam and if you want, Peanut Butter too. Now I understand that you may want to purchase these two to make some PB & J sandwiches for the kids while you are in the park. But AH HA...they do not sell BREAD! :ROFLOL: Just makes me think of the episode of Friends where Monica goes nuts making jam and Joey is obsessed. And he says "Remember when your Mom used to drop you off at the movies with your friends and a jar of jam??" Sorry, maybe just humorous to me...

LOL...I'm always pulling out the Friends quotes too (along with Will & Grace and Buffy...too much??)

LOVE the report!!
