WAs at the MK last night. Took lots of pictures of the castle.
Looks the same and I have seen it, well a couple times here and there :)

They do exist and work like gangbusters. We have been installing them on fire apparatus for general scene lighting and I can tell you that they work equally as well as traditional lighting sources. They would probably have to custom make the reflector assemblies to focus it correctly over that distance but the energy savings and life expectancy would soon pay for that in the long term.

Several manufacturers are making them and the cool thing is that there is no warm-up time so they could concieveably flash different colors of light rapidly without having to deal with the time lag with any traditional resistance based lighting source. I think it would be a really cool improvement.

It is also my understanding that the Christmas lights on the castle will be slightly different from last year.

Not correct. Testing at Disney has already been done with LED fixtures that will shoot as far as mentioned above.

Also, the fixtures that have been chosen for the castle, for the most part, are going to happen, but I don't think they have been installed or even purchased yet. There are a few things left to finalize before that could happen.

The LED Christmas lights, LED lighting fixtures, and projector are three separate projects for the castle all happening by years end. Most installation has already begun.

Well they may not need that many, only one strip would be needed where an edge from two different tiles come together. Since there are three edges to a tile and each tile buts up against three other tiles they should only need one strip per tile or 954 for the whole thing.

Thank you both for correcting me. Now if only EPCOT would be able to earmark some funds to repair and replace the SSE washes. From what I understand, a couple of the banks are no longer able to cycle colors and must be repaired.

What's the difference going to be? More energy savings? Brighter lights? Coloring changing lights??:slurp:

The installation of the LED instruments that provide the color wash on the castle is now complete. The person who said that they were there last night and didn't notice any difference must be blind. The color is much more vivid and brighter now. It really looks incredible.

What is this Projector everyone is talking about on the Castle?

And for the person who suggested fiber optic lights on SSE, get with the times. Fiber optic lights are sooo late 90's lol.... Really though, LED is the way to go, I don't think you will be seeing any new fiber optic lighting ever again.

MK had probably the most spectacular projections I have ever seen on the castle for the 4th of July immediately after the fireworks.
Was that from the new projectors?

I found this on JHM website, this is the closest i can find of a projection on the castle. They use projections for Remember Dreams Come True... Fireworks in the castle and also over IaSW, and they play videos.

The ToT image (mine :D ) above was produced with a combination of 6 projectors positioned on the roofs of Animagique and the Studio offices at WDSP. Believe me, it was the most stunning, bright and sharp, full motion system I`ve ever seen. I understand it is a combination of still slide and video.

Of course, the full video of the ceremony is at MouseBits.com for free, as always.
