Trip Report A Bonus last minute March Flower and Garden trip with lots of "Moments" - COMPLETED

Hello and welcome to my trip report I'm so excited to share this report with you all as it was such a special trip - I literally loved every moment of it and there were quite a few "moments" - I'll explain more on that in a minute.

As the title suggests this was a bonus trip for me booked at just 33 days before travelling - for those of you who don't know me I'm Tracey, hello, I travel to Disney every year in November - always November for my birthday. This trip was suggested by Chris (my husband) and we found a really good deal so we decided to go for it! - further details of how this happened can be found in my pre trip report (but to be honest you won't find much else of any use in the pre trip report as there was pretty much not to update on - I just wanted to tell everyone how happy I was when I booked)

I knew we were booked but in reality things didn't sink in until we arrived and that's where the "moments" in the title come in - I would have a quivering lip, tears in my eyes and then the sunglasses would come from the top of my head over my eyes to cover the tears and there it was a "moment" as Chris would describe it - and a fair few of these happened during this trip. Because this didn't really sink in properly until we arrived there is a lack of photo's for the first part of this report but there will be a lot of photo's after this properly starts as despite being in the world in November there are over 1400 pictures from this trip - oops......

We were in Disney from 12th March to 22nd March - 10 days in the World, Direct flights from the UK and Disney's All Star Sports with park tickets for a total of £2600 a bargain and the reason we went.

so onto the details................

Sunday 11th March
The day before our flight - we woke up and finished packing, it was strange to be packing Mickey ears and shorts in a suitcase, it still felt so unreal and really hadn't sunk in. it was like we were just going through the motions but were watching someone else - it's really hard to describe but you might relate to what I mean?

We normally travel mid week so normally leave work and rush around and then head down to the airport, we took our time, had something to eat and then packed the car and were off.

DSC04243.JPG

We were in the car chatting saying that in a few days we'd be on BTMRR but then just kept laughing as if it wasn't real - it honestly felt as if we were going out for the day together or going on an overnight break.
Our journey was pretty quick to Gatwick - we got to the hotel around 4.30pm and lay and rested in our room for an hour.
I watched some of Dancing on Ice - (a TV programme where celebrities learn to Dance on Ice) - Chris finally got fed up of that and went down to the pub next door to the hotel for a beer.
I joined him shortly after for a quick drink and snack and then we both returned to the room for an early night
The bar was far busier than we'd ever seen it but I think that was down to the fact it was Mother's Day.

Monday 12th March
Travel day - for all our Disney trips for the past few years the alarm tune is Shakira "try everything" - the same tune was put on to wake us up this morning and when the alarm did go off we again looked at each other and chuckled almost in disbelief this was actually going to happen.
We got up, showered and then headed for breakfast - in the hotel we stay in you get a free pick up and go breakfast of croissants, bacon rolls, coffee etc.

We packed the car (again) and took the car to the long stay south car park - before we left the cost of staying in the south car park was around £20 cheaper than the north long stay car park and as we were trying to not spend excessively on this holiday we booked the cheap option and decided to take the tram to the North Terminal where the plane was waiting to take us "home"

We arrived to an empty check in - I couldn't check in online (we think due to my brand new passport) so we were grateful for an empty Virgin desk. We headed through security and did a little window shopping and had poached egg on toast for breakfast.

We boarded our plane "pretty woman" and the plane took off with 285 passengers and 16 crew - in November this figures is well over 400 passengers!

I watched a few films on the plane including Coco and really enjoyed it - a great story line and I'm sure that Walt Disney is still living in the after world as I for one often think of him and what he achieved in Disney :)

We were 6th off the plan but our luggage took ages to arrive - the airport was being updated and there seemed to be fewer luggage belts etc and things hanging over the ceiling as make shift air conditioning units.

We headed out towards the Magical Express - we've never got onto this before and there was a fairly long wait - I'm disappointed that at this stage things still hadn't really sunk in so I didn't take any photo's, that said we didn't get a Magical Express anyway - it was a Mears coach :(

We arrived at All Star Sports - (for those who know me well will know I've only ever stayed at Riverside, it's my 2nd home and I've spent over 300 nights there but this was a chance to spend 10 additional days at Disney so Riverside was going to have to wait until November) - check in was quick and I have to say all the staff here were so friendly and welcoming - they really do show Disney in a great light

We opted for the no cleaning option and were given $90 - Ice cream money - yay! - those who have read my previous reports will know my thoughts on ice cream - we're more than capable of making our own beds and on keeping things tidy so this was a no brainer for us.

Our room was the furthest away but was still far nearer to the food court etc than any room we've had at Riverside. It didn't seem that far away at all for us. The room was clean, smaller than we're used to but was fine for what we needed.

We literally dumped the bags without even opening them, walked out of the room and went to reception to order a Lyft - it was now 8.34pm (12.34am UK time) but we had shopping to get. We were off to Walmart

Kenneth came to pick us up and we spoke with him about how long we'd been awake but we were going to keep going as we had supplies to get. We joked with him that he might be coming to pick us up if he were lucky!

We picked up water, breakfast bits and chips and ordered another Lyft to take us back to the All stars - would you credit it - Kenneth picked us up and we were back by 10pm

We quickly unpacked and were in bed around 10.30pm after 21 hours awake.

Coming up next our first full day in Disney - and the start of those moments - and a lot of photos!!!!

It was then time for the TOT FP - I have only been on here about twice in all the years of coming but I always get a FP - just in case! - I wasn't feeling it (again) so Chris went alone

I offered him my FP to go again but he refused and instead we went in search of snacks

We stumbled across the Citizens of Hollywood on the way

We sat in the afternoon sunshine watching the world go by

Chris noticed the Beauty and the beast show was about to start so we decided to see if we could squeeze in - luckily we could but ended up right at the back but that was fun we were still able to see and enjoy the show

DSC04739.JPG

After the show we managed to get a FP for Illuminations later that night so we decided to head back to the room for an hour before heading back out to Epcot.
we took a picture of some of the construction as we waited at the bus stop

We had decided to head out to McDonald’s for food - keeping it cheap!

There’s something about sitting outside McDonalds eating burgers in the sun that just puts a smile on my face

And this milkshake was just yum!

In the UK they don’t arrive like this - or not in my McDonalds at least!

We were soon back and on a bus headed to Epcot - on my "must do" list was the Easter Egg hunt and we thought as we were early we would do this tonight

We were back and I managed to get a picture at the entrance!

First stop my Eggstravaganza card - I was so excited to be doing this - I know I could just have gone round the countries spotting those eggs and it would not have cost me a penny - but I keep a scrap book (well a stick down photo album) and I put all kinds of bits in here

I still have my first key to the world card from my first visit, thick grass from Disney, some rubber from the cars at Lights, Motors action - all kinds of bits, including all invoices from my trips, stickers, streamers from the opening show at Magic Kingdom - the list goes on - this Eggstravaganza card will be finding it's way into my scrap book from this trip!

Anyway card in hand we were headed towards World Showcase - via the Butterflies!
I had to go and see if my little friend who had landed on me was still ok - and check on any new arrivals

Found one! - I'm not sharing the rest just in case any of you are heading to the world and want to do the hunt - I did take a picture of every one just to prove I'd found them

Chris always likes looking around in Germany at the Steins (tankards) or whatever they are called but he never buys one!

Oh no, how could you miss it? I know that was something you wanted to do. Maybe you had a buddleia bush - butterflies love those - we have one in our garden but it's still relatively small

Roger raced around the WS on his scooter. grrr, I had to slow him down and make him look at the topiaries LOL.
I don't know, but that huge bush, with limbs as big as a trees limbs, attracts hundreds of monarchs each year.

Whilst in Germany Chris decided he would have a beer - for the past (I think) 8 years we've got a car and the nights we go to Illuminations later we drive the car in and are normally out of Epcot and back to the room in 15 mins

With no car Chris had decided he was going to have a beer

DSC04806.JPG

That was one very happy husband I had right there at that minute!

DSC04807.JPG

Once I'd finished videoing him with his beer I turned around and there was Amy & Brad @ajrwdwgirl
Before we had left Leigh @LeighM had tried to get a meet up arranged between the 3 of us but a few days before Leigh had confirmed her hubby was ill and she wasn't sure if our paths would cross so nothing was arranged!

I think it was fate our paths crossed that night - we were doing the Egg hunt one way around world showcase and Amy & Brad were heading in the opposite direction - we didn't cheat and tell each other where the eggs were - we just chatted together about our trips and plans.
I really enjoyed our time together - it's so nice to meet fellow WDW Magic friends - I can't remember what Amy said at one point but I just laughed out loud and said to Chris - see I'm not totally mad there are others like me!

I hope one day our paths cross again and we can meet.

Chris took loads of photo's to document our meeting. I especially like some of the natural shots of our meeting.

It was nearly time for illuminations.
The FP area is now the area where myself and Chris used to watch illuminations from

We used to lie on the warm floor staring at the sky waiting for illuminations to start.
Tonight brought back all those happy memories - there were "moments" as I relieved all those feelings.
We lied on the floor and waited.

The narrator started
"Good evening, on behalf of Walt Disney World etc - We hope you enjoy our story tonight. Reflections of earth" - and when the noise comes to blow out the lights we both laughed!

We have recently bought touch lights for our bedroom and each night when Chris turns his out he doesn't say anything he just touches the light off and blows!

it's the little things people - the little things - he has continued to do this since we returned too so Disney is forever in our lives and hearts.

We tapped our feet, sang, swayed and cuddle each other throughout this - Illuminations is one of our favourites and as you don't feel like you can't walk (like at other night time shows) it's one you can just go to and always see the fireworks without feeling like you don't have any personal space.

As we left the Hailor/Shailor music was playing - this also brings back happy memories and there was another "moment"

Does anyone remember Tapestry of Nations that used to happen around World Showcase each night? - These are my pictures from November 2000

Tapestry 1 2000.jpg

We headed out and jumped on the bus which came quite quickly and we were in our room by 10pm - we'd enjoyed another fab "bonus" day in Disney

I'm late (and still catching up) but reading this so far it strikes me how much of a luxury it is to be without a tiny human so you can walk from one end of the park to the other and back. Living vicariously through you!

Better late than never!
And sometimes we've walked right around world showcase twice in one night in about 30 mins - so it's definitely easier alone. (or with just 2 adults)

So I know you were talking about possibly moving your annual trip to March or doing both March and November from now on, but may I interject something from an outside perspective? One of the things that is really coming through your TR here is how overjoyed you are to see the same things you have amazing memories about but in a new light. It's like you're experiencing the wonder of seeing it through new eyes. Maybe rotating seasons would be really magical for you.... That way each time you went (for at least a few years) it would be a magical experience through a fresh lens.

Funny you should say that myself and Chris have talked the about travelling at a different time but November is my birthday and I like to be away in the sunshine - that said this trip was so magical and like you said it was like seeing everything again for the first time so I think it has given us food for thought now - this year is already booked for November but who knows what might happen moving forwards.

I’m really glad that my excitement of this trip is coming through - I am still beaming.
