Trip Report A Bonus last minute March Flower and Garden trip with lots of "Moments" - COMPLETED

Hello and welcome to my trip report I'm so excited to share this report with you all as it was such a special trip - I literally loved every moment of it and there were quite a few "moments" - I'll explain more on that in a minute.

As the title suggests this was a bonus trip for me booked at just 33 days before travelling - for those of you who don't know me I'm Tracey, hello, I travel to Disney every year in November - always November for my birthday. This trip was suggested by Chris (my husband) and we found a really good deal so we decided to go for it! - further details of how this happened can be found in my pre trip report (but to be honest you won't find much else of any use in the pre trip report as there was pretty much not to update on - I just wanted to tell everyone how happy I was when I booked)

I knew we were booked but in reality things didn't sink in until we arrived and that's where the "moments" in the title come in - I would have a quivering lip, tears in my eyes and then the sunglasses would come from the top of my head over my eyes to cover the tears and there it was a "moment" as Chris would describe it - and a fair few of these happened during this trip. Because this didn't really sink in properly until we arrived there is a lack of photo's for the first part of this report but there will be a lot of photo's after this properly starts as despite being in the world in November there are over 1400 pictures from this trip - oops......

We were in Disney from 12th March to 22nd March - 10 days in the World, Direct flights from the UK and Disney's All Star Sports with park tickets for a total of £2600 a bargain and the reason we went.

so onto the details................

Sunday 11th March
The day before our flight - we woke up and finished packing, it was strange to be packing Mickey ears and shorts in a suitcase, it still felt so unreal and really hadn't sunk in. it was like we were just going through the motions but were watching someone else - it's really hard to describe but you might relate to what I mean?

We normally travel mid week so normally leave work and rush around and then head down to the airport, we took our time, had something to eat and then packed the car and were off.

DSC04243.JPG

We were in the car chatting saying that in a few days we'd be on BTMRR but then just kept laughing as if it wasn't real - it honestly felt as if we were going out for the day together or going on an overnight break.
Our journey was pretty quick to Gatwick - we got to the hotel around 4.30pm and lay and rested in our room for an hour.
I watched some of Dancing on Ice - (a TV programme where celebrities learn to Dance on Ice) - Chris finally got fed up of that and went down to the pub next door to the hotel for a beer.
I joined him shortly after for a quick drink and snack and then we both returned to the room for an early night
The bar was far busier than we'd ever seen it but I think that was down to the fact it was Mother's Day.

Monday 12th March
Travel day - for all our Disney trips for the past few years the alarm tune is Shakira "try everything" - the same tune was put on to wake us up this morning and when the alarm did go off we again looked at each other and chuckled almost in disbelief this was actually going to happen.
We got up, showered and then headed for breakfast - in the hotel we stay in you get a free pick up and go breakfast of croissants, bacon rolls, coffee etc.

We packed the car (again) and took the car to the long stay south car park - before we left the cost of staying in the south car park was around £20 cheaper than the north long stay car park and as we were trying to not spend excessively on this holiday we booked the cheap option and decided to take the tram to the North Terminal where the plane was waiting to take us "home"

We arrived to an empty check in - I couldn't check in online (we think due to my brand new passport) so we were grateful for an empty Virgin desk. We headed through security and did a little window shopping and had poached egg on toast for breakfast.

We boarded our plane "pretty woman" and the plane took off with 285 passengers and 16 crew - in November this figures is well over 400 passengers!

I watched a few films on the plane including Coco and really enjoyed it - a great story line and I'm sure that Walt Disney is still living in the after world as I for one often think of him and what he achieved in Disney :)

We were 6th off the plan but our luggage took ages to arrive - the airport was being updated and there seemed to be fewer luggage belts etc and things hanging over the ceiling as make shift air conditioning units.

We headed out towards the Magical Express - we've never got onto this before and there was a fairly long wait - I'm disappointed that at this stage things still hadn't really sunk in so I didn't take any photo's, that said we didn't get a Magical Express anyway - it was a Mears coach :(

We arrived at All Star Sports - (for those who know me well will know I've only ever stayed at Riverside, it's my 2nd home and I've spent over 300 nights there but this was a chance to spend 10 additional days at Disney so Riverside was going to have to wait until November) - check in was quick and I have to say all the staff here were so friendly and welcoming - they really do show Disney in a great light

We opted for the no cleaning option and were given $90 - Ice cream money - yay! - those who have read my previous reports will know my thoughts on ice cream - we're more than capable of making our own beds and on keeping things tidy so this was a no brainer for us.

Our room was the furthest away but was still far nearer to the food court etc than any room we've had at Riverside. It didn't seem that far away at all for us. The room was clean, smaller than we're used to but was fine for what we needed.

We literally dumped the bags without even opening them, walked out of the room and went to reception to order a Lyft - it was now 8.34pm (12.34am UK time) but we had shopping to get. We were off to Walmart

Kenneth came to pick us up and we spoke with him about how long we'd been awake but we were going to keep going as we had supplies to get. We joked with him that he might be coming to pick us up if he were lucky!

We picked up water, breakfast bits and chips and ordered another Lyft to take us back to the All stars - would you credit it - Kenneth picked us up and we were back by 10pm

We quickly unpacked and were in bed around 10.30pm after 21 hours awake.

Coming up next our first full day in Disney - and the start of those moments - and a lot of photos!!!!

I recognize those houses! Several years ago, where the Lightning McQueen topiary is now, they had a fairy garden featuring topiaries of all of Tink's friends, and those were their fairy houses.

I love it when I notice repurposed things at WDW! Well, except for that mirrored float in the MK afternoon parade. That was recycled about twice too often!

The photo of Canada is awesome. That's my favourite pavilion because of the garden, and I love the floral maple leaf. :inlove:

There are more photos of Canada to follow as I took more on another day

And I know what you mean about recycling - especially that mirrored parade float!

Tracey I had to scroll past all your F&G photos.....I want to be surprised next week.....but I promise to revisit your posts!

I totally get that - there are going to be loads more so be warned!

Maybe you leave my report until you get back - go ride BTMRR for me and then we can see whose in the lead when you get back without you knowing my total before you leave?

And where does someone from the UK eat lunch?! - in the UK! - well only me.

I'm such a fussy eater that I just stick to what I like - Chris likes to try other things or eat elsewhere so when in Epcot we normally eat alone - well together but alone.

It was quite busy in Epcot so I ate my dinner on a dustbin!
Well that's where I started to eat but then I decided to sit on the floor by the water and watch the world go by.

When we first started to come to Disney I always used to sit on the floor near the water so this again bought back very happy memories

We headed towards France and were just strolling around without a care in the world - next stop France

Wow - the Beast - most of you will know he is my absolute favourite - I love him so much!

DSC04604.JPG

DSC04605.JPG

This picture was the first time I met the Beast back in 1996 - he kissed me, we hugged and straight after this picture he held my hand and tried to take me away and run away with me!

Right there and then I had the chance to stay in Disney forever, why oh why didn't I go.

Character 1996.jpg

We then wanted ice cream so we skipped a few countries and headed to the USA

DSC04610.JPG

We decide to go to watch the American Adventure but once inside there was an announcement that the 3pm show wasn't going ahead due to technical difficulties so there was only 1 thing left to do

Get ice cream!!

American Dream for me - that's the best of both worlds right there - slush and ice cream together - if I ever see anywhere in the UK selling slush and ice cream in the same shop I am going to see if they will make something similar.

Chris has a swirl cone and together we walked to Italy and sat there with the sun beating down taking in the views eating and drinking our treats.

The lady and the tramp topiaries in Italy were really good - I wonder how long these take to make up and where they end up after Flower and Garden?!

A performer had just come out in Italy so Chris stopped to look - I took a few photos and just enjoyed the sun

We headed to Mexico - I like the Coco bits in here

DSC04668.JPG

DSC04670.JPG

We headed for the Grand Fiesta tour ride and within around 5 mins were taking a calm boat ride with the 3 caballeros

We headed out of the countries and back to living with the land. We stopped for a quick cookie and drink and then headed to the Pixar short films -

I do miss Honey I shrunk the audience - I honestly think they are missing a trick here - I am sure they could bring it back tomorrow if they wanted to and I don't really know why they took it away!?

We took a quick visit to Figment - who I nicknamed Figgie for this trip

We stopped into the Butterfly House on the way as the sun was setting we wondered if the butterflies would be out - we saw a few but they were all up high, probably trying to get the last of the sunshine.

DSC04672.JPG

We then headed to browse in Mouse Gear - I remember this shop back in 1996 too - it used to have 2 floors and they had character meet and greets at the back - I do wish some of the old style bits you could buy would come back or at least someone in Disney would recognise that some of us would like some quality bits to buy - there seems to be less and less each year to suit my taste - but I guess they can't be doing too bad if they haven't seen fit to add any bits into their merchandise selections.

It was then time to leave Epcot as we had Fireworks in Magic Kingdom to see

We had had the most amazing day in Epcot, strolling around taking in all the topiaries - and we hadn't yet seen them all!

We stood and watched HEA and just enjoying the whole experience.

The music and words to this song just get you - I've since bought the single and at some point will put some of our Disney video with it so we can enjoy some of our special moments.

We left just before the end as the park was busy and we had no desire to be waiting ages for a bus - we did get this shot of the fireworks as we left.

The music was still playing at the entrance so I guess if you're not fussed about seeing the projections on the castle you could watch outside without all the crowds.

DSC04694.JPG

We arrived back at the hotel just after 9.30pm and I took just a couple of random shots of the hotel as we passed through.

We had had a great day and there were still many more to come.

Love the topiary photos. Never been at this time of year but if looks so beautiful I think I may have to try to do a spring trip instead of Halloween/Holiday time.

We loved it - I think it's busy there now as Easter had arrived and spring break - I guess you have to time it right - I think we were lucky - I kept thinking the crowds would get bad but they never did
I would love to visit at this time again and if the price was low again I wouldn't hesitate - it was definitely quieter than November!

Friday 16th March

It was forecast to be a beautiful sunny 80 degree day in Disney and we weren't disappointed!

Today we were headed to HS - it was a chilly start to the day so the jackets were on - we arrived at 9.10am and headed straight to TSMM

DSC04697.JPG

We obviously peaked over the wall at the new Toy Story Land - loads had been done since our visit in November, its a shame they haven't made this completely like the original concept art but I'm sure it will still look good and I look forward to experiencing it in November - in the meantime we were just going to have to look at construction walls.

DSC04698.JPG

DSC04699.JPG

DSC04700.JPG

It was then TSMM time - we always have a little competition - as I'm sure everyone does on who can win - it's normally me but there was always a chance Chris could change all that today?!

DSC04701.JPG

Guess who the green player was?

Yes it was me - his challenge hadn't started well.

I was really happy to see this fountain back to it's former glory - we don't think much of the muppets - I know don't hate me! - we don't even do the ride - we've probably done it twice in all the years we've been coming but I still like the fountain.

DSC04702.JPG

We then headed to the back of the Muppets to see if we could see anything of the Star Wars construction - but there wasn't much to see

We then stumbled upon Chip and Dale doing a meet and greet - when we used to visit years ago - Characters would just appear it made everything even more special than designated meet and greets - I know that there is Character Paloozo so sometimes this does happen but I think meet and greets just adhoc would be pretty cool

It was the Centorium back then. BEST. SHOP. EVER. I still miss it.

We arrived at the Magic Kingdom and as we had a little time decided to jump on IASW before going to watch the fireworks

Living with the Land is my favorite ride at Epcot. Raul and I loved the Behind the Seeds tour we did in 2016. So much fun! And I really enjoyed the violet lemonade too :) Raul laughed at me because I told him it reminded me of a brand of violet bath powder I used to use in the late 80s. He couldn't understand why I would like a drink that reminded me of my bath. It wasn't a heavily floral scent and as a kid I always wondered what it would taste like. Now I know :)
