Trip Report A Bonus last minute March Flower and Garden trip with lots of "Moments" - COMPLETED

Hello and welcome to my trip report I'm so excited to share this report with you all as it was such a special trip - I literally loved every moment of it and there were quite a few "moments" - I'll explain more on that in a minute.

As the title suggests this was a bonus trip for me booked at just 33 days before travelling - for those of you who don't know me I'm Tracey, hello, I travel to Disney every year in November - always November for my birthday. This trip was suggested by Chris (my husband) and we found a really good deal so we decided to go for it! - further details of how this happened can be found in my pre trip report (but to be honest you won't find much else of any use in the pre trip report as there was pretty much not to update on - I just wanted to tell everyone how happy I was when I booked)

I knew we were booked but in reality things didn't sink in until we arrived and that's where the "moments" in the title come in - I would have a quivering lip, tears in my eyes and then the sunglasses would come from the top of my head over my eyes to cover the tears and there it was a "moment" as Chris would describe it - and a fair few of these happened during this trip. Because this didn't really sink in properly until we arrived there is a lack of photo's for the first part of this report but there will be a lot of photo's after this properly starts as despite being in the world in November there are over 1400 pictures from this trip - oops......

We were in Disney from 12th March to 22nd March - 10 days in the World, Direct flights from the UK and Disney's All Star Sports with park tickets for a total of £2600 a bargain and the reason we went.

so onto the details................

Sunday 11th March
The day before our flight - we woke up and finished packing, it was strange to be packing Mickey ears and shorts in a suitcase, it still felt so unreal and really hadn't sunk in. it was like we were just going through the motions but were watching someone else - it's really hard to describe but you might relate to what I mean?

We normally travel mid week so normally leave work and rush around and then head down to the airport, we took our time, had something to eat and then packed the car and were off.

DSC04243.JPG

We were in the car chatting saying that in a few days we'd be on BTMRR but then just kept laughing as if it wasn't real - it honestly felt as if we were going out for the day together or going on an overnight break.
Our journey was pretty quick to Gatwick - we got to the hotel around 4.30pm and lay and rested in our room for an hour.
I watched some of Dancing on Ice - (a TV programme where celebrities learn to Dance on Ice) - Chris finally got fed up of that and went down to the pub next door to the hotel for a beer.
I joined him shortly after for a quick drink and snack and then we both returned to the room for an early night
The bar was far busier than we'd ever seen it but I think that was down to the fact it was Mother's Day.

Monday 12th March
Travel day - for all our Disney trips for the past few years the alarm tune is Shakira "try everything" - the same tune was put on to wake us up this morning and when the alarm did go off we again looked at each other and chuckled almost in disbelief this was actually going to happen.
We got up, showered and then headed for breakfast - in the hotel we stay in you get a free pick up and go breakfast of croissants, bacon rolls, coffee etc.

We packed the car (again) and took the car to the long stay south car park - before we left the cost of staying in the south car park was around £20 cheaper than the north long stay car park and as we were trying to not spend excessively on this holiday we booked the cheap option and decided to take the tram to the North Terminal where the plane was waiting to take us "home"

We arrived to an empty check in - I couldn't check in online (we think due to my brand new passport) so we were grateful for an empty Virgin desk. We headed through security and did a little window shopping and had poached egg on toast for breakfast.

We boarded our plane "pretty woman" and the plane took off with 285 passengers and 16 crew - in November this figures is well over 400 passengers!

I watched a few films on the plane including Coco and really enjoyed it - a great story line and I'm sure that Walt Disney is still living in the after world as I for one often think of him and what he achieved in Disney :)

We were 6th off the plan but our luggage took ages to arrive - the airport was being updated and there seemed to be fewer luggage belts etc and things hanging over the ceiling as make shift air conditioning units.

We headed out towards the Magical Express - we've never got onto this before and there was a fairly long wait - I'm disappointed that at this stage things still hadn't really sunk in so I didn't take any photo's, that said we didn't get a Magical Express anyway - it was a Mears coach :(

We arrived at All Star Sports - (for those who know me well will know I've only ever stayed at Riverside, it's my 2nd home and I've spent over 300 nights there but this was a chance to spend 10 additional days at Disney so Riverside was going to have to wait until November) - check in was quick and I have to say all the staff here were so friendly and welcoming - they really do show Disney in a great light

We opted for the no cleaning option and were given $90 - Ice cream money - yay! - those who have read my previous reports will know my thoughts on ice cream - we're more than capable of making our own beds and on keeping things tidy so this was a no brainer for us.

Our room was the furthest away but was still far nearer to the food court etc than any room we've had at Riverside. It didn't seem that far away at all for us. The room was clean, smaller than we're used to but was fine for what we needed.

We literally dumped the bags without even opening them, walked out of the room and went to reception to order a Lyft - it was now 8.34pm (12.34am UK time) but we had shopping to get. We were off to Walmart

Kenneth came to pick us up and we spoke with him about how long we'd been awake but we were going to keep going as we had supplies to get. We joked with him that he might be coming to pick us up if he were lucky!

We picked up water, breakfast bits and chips and ordered another Lyft to take us back to the All stars - would you credit it - Kenneth picked us up and we were back by 10pm

We quickly unpacked and were in bed around 10.30pm after 21 hours awake.

Coming up next our first full day in Disney - and the start of those moments - and a lot of photos!!!!

I'm looking for something I can take great selfies with my kid, some landscapes, etc, but without actually learning how to do photography. Like, the HDR feature on it looks like it goes a little too far with the HDR, but it's still easier than me taking the three shots manually and combining them later. Which I won't likely ever have time for. It would be really nice not to have to rely on my phone any more, and not to worry about whether or not my phone has a good camera so much because I can just pocket this thing. I want to be as lazy as possible, but still get really great shots, LOL.

Thank you! And sorry for the hijack @Longers

Don’t apologise - I spent ages looking as like you I wanted something easy - I would love to learn photography properly and have been to a lesson once but this does everything for me - it has so many modes and the screen comes up for selfies so we no longer have to point and hope for the best!
It does landscapes too - and fits in a pocket - it’s been all over The place with me since I’ve had it!

I'm asking my husband to look into selling the two DSLRs I have so I can come closer to affording it. They're really great Nikon cameras, but I don't use them AT ALL. I can't take selfies with them (I know, I know,...) and when I'm out with my kid and it's just the two of us, I want to be in the shot with her. Plus it's heavy and cannot fit in my purse (especially since my purse is filled with snacks for my 3 year old). They just sit there, collecting dust, except for a handful of times a year when I feel bad about it and take them to the park.

Thank you for the suggestion!!

After our Everest journey we were headed to the safari - I think the wait time was 10 mins - the queues this day were pretty non existent!

72A32E11-5562-4D44-906E-D84D99D13D4A.jpeg

This was by far the strangest safari we have ever been on!

The lady driver elongated every word - we found ourselves repeating her once or twice and then stopped as we figured maybe she could hear us - from then on we were just laughing - I know I know maybe it’s not her fault but it was quite off putting but at the same time being quite amusing.

This is the first time we’ve seen one swimming

Painted dogs

And then a giraffe decided he was going to stand in the road - he soon moved

8992FC9D-AD1D-40D9-B00B-AAF16706AF13.jpeg

Then leopards and 2 of them - I’ve zoomed this picture in - I do love the whole of the room these animals have in AK but I’m sorry this enclosure is too small for these animals - just my thoughts and I’m not sure if they have room to run elsewhere but this just doesn’t seem big enough.

And then lions

This was a proper pride rock moment!

The only thing I will say is that the zoom isn’t great but you can do that manually via an app or laptop if you need to - low light was more important so I forfeited the zoom!

I read that the zoom was stable up to 2x but not past that. Whatever,... it's better than the zoom on my phone, LOL. Just means I'll need to get a good seat at ballet recitals, that's all!

Whilst in the queue a child sneezed over Chris’s leg - that made him unhappy!
I can accept children as I understand that sometimes they may kick you on a bus etc but Chris isn’t as tollerant
He was clearly not happy and wanted this ride over with so he could go and clean his leg. His issue is always the parents - has no one taught them to put their hands over their mouth when they sneeze?

I on the other hand was enjoying my wait and ride!

It was so quiet a change from our previous visit.

After lunch we headed out to get a bus to HS for our afternoon FP’s

We arrived at HS with 1 minute until our FP was due to expire for RNRC - this seemed to be a trend for this holiday (us just making any FP by the skin of our teeth). I kept telling Chris not to worry we had a grace period!

Anyhow we made it - time to get a fast limo

One day I won’t scream at the start - it just takes my breathe away!

TOT next for Chris - I cancelled mine and sat and waited for him
When I saw the photo I said to him “that’s the first time I’ve ever seen a TOT photo where you don’t have your hands up”.

He replied saying there was a young girl behind him and he didn’t want to spoil their photo - ahhhhhh

It was quite strange he said this as whole I was waiting some poor little girl looked at her photo and was really upset she couldn’t see herself after queuing all that time

Found some citizens again - Chris could literally stand watching
these guys all day! This was one of the reasons we had gone back to HS so Chris was happy

I’m not sure if one of the shows was cancelled due to inclement weather but these guys all just went for a walk round?

We had done everything we wanted to in this park - to be honest this trip I would have been happy not to go but we hadn’t spent long there’s anyway - we said goodbye to HS until November when I look forward to seeing Toy story land and headed to the bus stop

As we arrived at the bus stop there was one going to Saratoga springs so we decided to jump onboard and walk from there to Disney Springs.

The bus turned just before Riverside - there was a little “moment” right there - so near yet so far! I have stayed at Riverside every trip and it made me sad to be so close but I was so grateful to be in Disney my sad face didn’t last too long.

We experience a few bits of rain on our walk from the hotel to the springs but it soon disappeared. We knew we were going to be against the weather as apparently there was a storm coming so we gave ourselves just 1 1/2 hours - I pretty much know very quickly if I like something so I am a fast shopper - I needed to be today!

We stopped in a few shops and then decided we should treat ourselves to a milkshake - having got the dining plan the last few times and not being able to consume all the food we don’t normally buy additional things so this was our chance to indulge - we’ve never had one of these so decided to share (can you get on the dining plan?)

This was delicious - cookie and cream milkshake. I might have to buy another in November!

We were disappointed with the world of Disney - hopefully the changes will be done by November and it’s will be back to its former glory or better in November.

Whilst we were inside it started to rain and everyone was heading for cover - we might have been out a little too long!?

We waited it out for a bit and then headed outside as it was slowing down - as we were on the way to the bus stop there was a massive flash of lightening and the loudest clap of thunder ever right over our heads

We arrived back to our room fairly dry.
I wasn’t feeling great I had a sore throat all day so I tried to sleep for an hour - it didn’t happen but Chris managed to but not before getting us a POTC FP for later that night.

We had tried before we left with no luck and we wanted to see the new red head scene - I guess maybe people had seen the weather and decided to do something else and had been cancelling FP’s

We agreed to wait 2 hours until around 5pm before heading back out to the Magic Kingdom.

It was soon time to hit our 3rd park of the day!
We were on the way to MK

We were super excited to see the new POTC
Like others have said it is well done and if you didn’t know the ride you wouldn’t even notice the change but I like @blgauger was disappointed the mermaid has gone from the first section - why did they need to move it?
Maybe it’s temporary - time will tell

Then we went to HM - we were in the stretching room with just 1 family of 4 - it was so quiet and like getting a ViP experience!

It was getting close to fireworks time so we headed around the back again to see if we could find a photo pass photographer - but it wasn’t to be so we took our own!

The queue was not 5mins - everyone with FP must have come straight after the fireworks as we were waiting ages - they were letting something like 50 FP people through and only 1 family from the regular queue!
I don’t know how long we waited but it was ages.

Bumped into @ Becca again and got her this photo of her and her nan!

As we arrived back at our resort it was busy - college children everywhere. Sitting in the grass in groups, at the pool etc - it looked like our quiet time at Disney was about time change!?

I got into bed, took a tablet and headed into neverland

On a side note the following morning out of curiosity I checked the touring plan crowd levels for this day

MK was forecast 7 - actual 3
EP forecast 7 actual 3
HS forecast 6 actual 4 - and was the busiest park we visited this day
AK forecast 7 actual 2 - that’s why the queues were so light and virtually a walk on!

Tell Chris thank you for thinking of this! I've had many ride photos ruined because someone in front of us put their hands up and blocked us in the photo. I do not let my family put their arms up (unless we're in the back row) for this very reason.

I don't blame Chris for being a bit annoyed about his leg being spit on by an ill aimed sneezer. My kids were taught from the time they could comprehend English that they needed to cover their mouths. Having your own child's spit on you is bad enough. Having a stranger sneeze on you is just awful. I always carry sanitizing wipes and would have used them real quick in this situation.

Maybe that’s something to pack for future tips - it’s going on the list!
