A 5th Park?

This thread is bound to get hot. I am very curious as if anyone has heard anything about when, where a possible 5th park will be added. If Disney wants to add something by 2010 or 2011 now is the time to release it, at least I would think. I would at least think that Disney would want to add a 5th park soon, but maybe with the economy being what it is, it may prevent that from happening as what happened to the Asian Resort.

I realize that Pleasure Island is getting an overhaul and the Western Beltway project is going on strong, so maybe that's it for now. I would at least think that Disney would want to add another park.

I understand the allure and excitment of a 5th gate, but sadly a traditional 5th gate does not make a ton of sense for Walt Disney World, this is something I wrote a while ago...

"I understand your thinking and your desire, but as others have stated it doesn't make sense for Disney to build a traditional 5th gate.

With American vacations rarley going beyond 5 to 7 days, you already have people streching their vacation out between 4 theme parks 2 water parks, a day time/night time shopping district, golf courses, out door activities, and other randomness.

People already leave WDW feeling like they didn't 'do it all' and Disney gets a lot of repeat business from that, but it does get to be a bit overwhelming.

The question for a traditional 5th gate would be, would it increase the number of onsite visitors (instead of spreading the number of onsite visitors thinner)

So for instance right now at any given time there can be over 100,000 people on Disney property. With a 5th gate would you be able to increase that 20%? So adding an additional 7.3 million visitors a year?"

yes there was a piece put in the bank bailout by our govts. it is a pork project that has disney getting all of the 700 billion dollars to make the new parks. hasn't anyone seen it on the news outlets. it is going on every fews minutes here in toontown. :ROFLOL:

No.

Disney already has a lot of other things to worry about at the other parks. Animal Kingdom is still quite new, MGM *really* needs some love and care, and enough people visit Epcot and Magic Kingdom as it is.

As long as masses of people keep visiting (which they will), there won't be a 5th gate anytime soon.

A 5th gate will come eventually. But a traditional gate doesn't seem to be remotely close. The consensus by the fan community, and seemingly Disney as well is that the existing parks need improvements before a new park will be built.

Of course, the rumors of Jungle Trek/Night Kingdom have been thrown around and were apparently guaranteed to Four Seasons as a selling point to that development. However, for the immediate future it seems that even the idea of a boutique park may be on hold, if not dead.

I thought I heard...

Well, for some reason (and maybe it's just in MY head as an 'I wish they would...'), I seem to remember 'rumors' when I was a CP, of a 5th park w/a 'Villains' theme containing more 'thrilling' attractions to 'compete' w/Universal's Islands of Adventure park and add even more diversity to the growing Disney repertoire.
If this idea IS in my head...maybe I should patent it! :lookaroun
Given the success of the few, but SO fun, existing roller coaster attractions at the World, I think a 5th gate w/more heart-pounding Disney thrills could be an asset. The previous post does make a good point though about 'spreading too thin'.
One does have to wonder...I mean they STILL have tons of land on which they could build...I'm sure at some point, they'll be something else that will stay true to the 'Disney' feel.
And naturally...
everyone will go!
and it will be fantastic...
I mean 'Fantasmic' ;)

They already tried a park that catered to thrill rides. It was called California Adventure and it failed miserably.

Anyways, forget the Fifth gate, how about the harry potter ride Disney's supposed to be getting soon?:lookaroun

Most of the rumors I've read state that Iger has lost interest in (funding) this concept, much to Rasulo's chagrin.

Two better ideas...

  • re-vamp the pavillions that need it in Epcot futureworld
  • finish Animal Kingdom
I very much doubt they will do anything anytime soon with the 5th gate. More likely to add tons of DVC accomodations to try to infuse more guranteed yearly income.

God bless the "Ignore" button.
New 5th gate news!!!

IT'S OFFICIAL! They're making a 5th gate! Not only that, but they're bringing Walt out of cryogenic storage to personally design it! Needless to say, this is a controversial idea, so apparently they're going to use the missile silo in the castle as protection in case anyone tries to stop them. Rumor is the new park will be named When-Heck-Freezes-Over-Kingdom.

There's a decent chance they'll start building another park in a few years, but it will probably be a playground for the rich. Your basic park hopper will not get you in.

It will be the Discovery Cove of WDW.

I totally heard a rumor that they were building a 5th gate! It's going to have all the old attractions, like Horizons and Figment. They are going to expand the monorail so it goes there. It's also going to have Harry Potter land and will open the same day River Country reopens.

I heard another rumor that they are also getting rid of all Dole Whip locations. My mom's friend's second cousin passed on the information. He used to drive the bus in Fort Wilderness.

Don't believe the rumors from bus drivers. It's the boat captains that have all the insider info.

I think a fifth park would be a terrible idea! AK and Dhs need a lot of work done. AK needs at the least two more major attractions

5th park wont happen anytime soon. Funding got frozen months ago at the beginning of the economic meltdown.
