A 5th Major Park?

Do you think Disney World will ever build a 5th major park or have they played all their cards already?

Related to this point, is there anyone that has an idea as to what % of the property they've already built on?

Not sure how accurate this map is, but is the land west of Magic Kingdom part of the property? What about the space NW of EPCOT? Or the land North of Coronado Springs? Are these golf courses or something?

Oh, and any chance they just tear down the Wide World of Sports and put something more meaningful up?

I like the idea of a park right between 5 and 9 or where 6 is.

And WWoS is meaningful to thousands of kids who get to play there- it's not a total waste imo.

With them rebranding the Wide World of Sports to an ESPN theme there is no chance of them ripping it up..plus with the Braves doing spring training there for the next what 90 years, there is zero chance of that happening.

I would also imagine that given the tournaments and whatnot they have there, WWoS is probably VERY profitable for them.

Yeah they'll build a 5th park someday. When, I don't know. What? I don't know either. Maybe they'll build a theme park with extreme roller coasters themed after Disney, who knows? But Walt didn't buy 30,000 acres of land for nothing. He didn't want to make the same mistake he did with Disneyland, so yes there is plenty of room to build another park and maybe 4 or 5. Just think to how far of a drive the Magic Kingdom is from the other parks along that highway. There is ample space

this has been discussed many times. i belive if i remember right, most of the land in between the MK area and the rest of the property(mainly Epcot and such) is very uch un usable. just do a search on these forums and you'll find lots of info by many informative people!

Today much of it is unuseable. However, when Walt bought it, you could still drain swamps and turn useless into useful. Now, with the government exercising control over your property and telling you what you may and may not do, this is no longer the case. More liberty lost.

Try looking at a real map and you will get a better feel for the actual size. But WWoS isn't going anywhere. In fact it's getting bigger.

If you do a search on "fifth gate" or "5th gate" you will find numberous threads already discussing it.

No.

As said, Sports is growing, and Disney is in no place to make another park in Fla, right now. Our parks need too much.

That is really the crux of it.

And I think WDW is already seeing the diminishing returns of having built too much too quickly.

They built more and more resorts and attractions with no thought to maintenance of existing attractions and properties. There is a profit cap on anything, including Disney. They are finally starting to get a handle on it, but new park construction at this point would be foolish.

I don't even see the point of the Shanghai property right now, but I know plenty who would disagree with me.

I don't disagree with you at all on Shanghai. While I'm excited to witness the building a Disney Park for the first time as a active member of the community (not a lurker!) I really don't see a need.

And yes, WDW built things way too quickly, and I think MGM is the biggest and most obvious example. 7 years between parks is not a long time... Especially when you just completed the largest private project to date, that still needed constant expansion and updating because it proved to be so popular. EPCOT Center should have been the focus of the company for a good 10 years, just like MK was, before they moved onto MGM. If they would have waited, I really think that MGM, even as great as it is now, would have come out a lot larger, more expansive, and maybe even more immersive and detailed.

I have NO idea how they pulled of DAK...It opened 9 years after MGM. Then again, while huge, and while detailed, it really didn't open with much.

I wonder if all the "problems" of capacity and "flow" of things at WDW can be attributed to them rushing out parks and now being overwhelmed. A highly abstract thought, seeing that it would need TONS of research to back up, :)lol: I would, if I didn't have HW as it is!) but a ineresting thought to throw out, nonetheless.

Not in the near future for sure, with the economy the way it is. I think they still have alot to add onto to Animal Kingdom, plus they seen concerned about building more resorts for the time being.

I find that with the four major parks, 2 giant water parks, hundreds of dining options, and tons of places to buy gifts, Disney has managed to suck my wallet/credit cards dry.

If another theme park were to be built, I would have to resort to bank robbery to fulfill my Disney vacation dreams.

So I say, no more parks, just improve and expand on the ones we have.

Those maps might have been the coolest thing I've ever seen. I've spent over an hour so far today just browsing through it putting my mouse over things.

Yea I found it a year ago but you can see if they wanted to they could double the size of DHS.

Hmm... this thread has had an interesting effect on me.

When I wrote it, I wanted nothing more than to hear a news release that mentioned that WDW was planning a new major park over the next 5 years. But people brought up some good points. I guess I would be much more excited if I had heard that DHS was expanding to have a whole new section called "Classic Cinema" with 3 rides/shows than I would be if I heard a whole new park was being built.

I guess a lot of my question was more geared to the fear that I had that WDW simply had no more ROOM to expand or build. Not sure if anyone ever shares this fear, but I dread the day that Disney has used up every acre of land in the WDW plot is only able to replace instead of expand. But I guess now that I've seen those maps with all those grassy, barren areas untapped... it puts me at ease.

Here's to hoping we get a nice, intermittent schedule of timely updates and expansions to the 4 major parks over the next 20 years (especially DHS).

They should improve the four parks they already have on the property and address what needs to be fixed before considering a 5th gate.
