Elusive effects lost in time

I just want to put up a thread regarding effects that are rare to Come by or lost that footage might be impossible for instance the traveling light in the haunted mansion or the purple ghost. And also hidden mickeys from extinct attractions like world of motion or discovery island

I'm thinking of the mermaids in the water from (I think WDW's version of) Pirates of the Caribbean, based on one of the movies. Also the infamous meteor at Countdown to Extinction's end (before it was replaced by the charging Carno head), and to a lesser degree the water cannons creating the iconic 'splash' visible from off-ride and during the first outdoor portion of Splash Mountain (an effect I believe was turned off in 2020 and never returned for TBA).

Are you talking about the mist / fog in the tunnels? I experienced that a few times thankfully.
There was a mist effect that blew off the top of the mountain to specifically be seen from the ground. When the wind blew in the right way it could look like the peak was sticking through a cloud.

@TrainsOfDisney found it;

Although the ‘Universe of Energy’ closed, when this topic comes up I immediately think of the rolling fog bank effect that would come and go inside the first major show scene, the prehistoric diorama.
It was a very cool effect…very noticeable when your traveling theatre vehicle first entered the room as ‘dawn’ broke over the brontos.
It was literally a rolling blanket of fog that covered the floor and created a stunning effect.

The last time I saw this effect operate was on the day of Epcot’s 25th Anniversary, October 1st 2007.
My jaw hit the floor, literally, when we rolled into the scene and the fog bank was present.
Fantastic…I had not seen it since the 1980s.

Someone in Maintenance clearly went to the effort to get it working that day….and it was appreciated.

Another memory was Martin sitting in the front row with me getting it all on video, too!

I recall the LwTL Attraction having a misting / fog effect in the rain forest area many years ago.
It added to the overall tropical atmosphere, where you not only saw the mist but also smelled the moisture.
Made the scene seem even more ‘realistic’.

That scene alone has SO many missing effects and lighting now but it has been nice to see a couple of things brought back online.
Lots more work needs to be done however…

These are my favorite kinds of threads!! The purple ghost in the séance has always piqued my interest. I don’t really remember ever seeing it but I know it was there. Anybody have any pics/know why it was removed?

Kali River Rapids opened with 4 or 5 flame projectors in the logged out area before the drop. "Burn Zone" as it still called by cast members was quite the show back then. One impressive fire effect was an arch around the top of the drop. Alas, they added around 2004 a new monitoring area for the drop and for cast member safety, all the fire effects were turned off.
