Fond memories of watching Spectro starting in Town Square. It was awesome seeing the glow and flashing lights from the Spectromen waiting behind the gate, then a wow moment when the gates open revealed the floats.
and hearing the incredible soundtrack coming on swelling and filling the area, remember the preshow announcement and music? Not sure thats something they would know how to do anymore, would probably just be a vague generic announcement now but will see hopefully not.

I know that Spectro is the darling for this thread, but what are the general thoughts on Paint the Night here? For me, it’s my favorite of the nighttime parades.

There are people who like it. I am not one of them. For the standards of other castle park parades I find it to have an obnoxious soundtrack, it's very short, many of the floats have an inorganic blocky design (including the overly straight grid patterns in which many of the the lights are laid out) and some really just look like they tacked TV's onto vehicles etc. IMO it's the worst castle park night parade. Works better somewhere like DCA or Hollywood Studios, but still not great on its own.

The costumes are the one thing that I feel they did really well with.

Not a fan of PTN, found the parade to be notably short on floats and relied heavily on Pixar and post-Reniassance era of Disney. Fantillusion and Spectromagic had a better selection of Disney films and healthy balanced out Disney Characters of old and new and better float design. The way PTN's floats are designed makes the parade feel "empty" at times.

Another issue I have with PTN is that the parade has very awkared transitions making the parade feel notably empty. The most evident is the Monsters Inc float where you can a huge gap between another oncoming float. Despite the different varations of "When Can We Do This Again", the floats for their respetivie films are very noisy and can sometimes be heard miles away from the next float. The most notable is The Little Mermaid float's transition to the Toy Story section.

There's a reason Fantillusion and Spectromagic had background music heard between floats. Previous electrical parades (such as Fantillusion and Spectromagic) had a unique way of transitioning certain section.

No
MK has a backstage connection (unlike DL) so if they run the parade twice they can do it the same direction each time, which they typically do for consistency IIRC.
I'm certain I saw SpectroMagic running in the opposite direction (i.e. starting in Frontierland) for the 11pm show. @marni1971 I believe has confirmed this has happened.

They certainly can run a parade opposite directions in one night if they wish in MK, but they don't have to (unlike DL) because they can move the parade via backstage between locations.

Unlike Disneyland there is no need for the parade to reverse direction to “return home”. At Magic Kingdom backstage routes make it possible to complete a full loop. It’s actually more challenging to switch directions. It’s also operationally preferable to have the night parade start at Town Square so that as the parade ends guests can exit the park with no obstruction. If the parade begins in Frontierland than when it ends in Frontierland guests can not easily exit because the parade is still blocking routes on Main Street. Both Spectromagic and Main Street Electrical Parade had instances of running in reverse, however this was typically only done for media capture so they could get shots of the oncoming floats with the castle in the background.

Tired of these early 9-10PM closures at MK. Want more consistent 11PM & 12AM closures, which we should see happen.

I know Universal is going to be tough to compete with this year, but Disney has a significant advantage in that they actually keep their parks open late.

Universal loves to close its parks early (as early as 6PM for IOA/USF in favor of private events). IOA closes at 7PM consistently, and it's a shame.

EU Should have a Nighttime Spectacular....there was a Fireworks Test last week......Of course, no official word on that either!

Don’t think it belongs on Main Street, not traditional and to modern in my opinion but it is a fun parade and would be great for DCA and Hollywood Studios. I’d do see it if that were the case but I just don’t think pop music and floats fit with the Magic Kingdom setting.
