Brady MacDonald reports plans have been submitted for the Avengers Campus expansion prep work:

"Disneyland has taken the initial steps to begin backstage preparations for the expansion of Avengers Campus that will add two new attractions and double the size of the Marvel themed land at Disney California Adventure.

Disneyland has submitted a plan to the city of Anaheim for Avengers Campus expansion prep work that is currently under review, according to city officials.

The plan submitted by Disneyland addresses utilities, temporary trailers and parking lots in the backstage area behind Avengers Campus that would be impacted by the expansion.

The prep work plan is a procedural step that takes place before the city grants a demolition permit and before Disneyland submits plans for the Avengers Campus expansion.

The Avengers Campus expansion is not part of the recently approved $1.9 billion DisneylandForward plan, according to city officials.

Construction will begin in 2025 on the new Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab attractions as part of the Avengers Campus expansion."

I'm a little surprised it's taking this long. I really thought construction would start in January. I'm still hoping for 2027 but that feels less and less likely.

If its anything like its predecessor ride systems Peter Pans Neverland Adventure, it wont have any AAs at all.
This is different though as I don't think ride system is the determining factor on whether there are AAs or not. There are something like 6 variations of the Peter Pan attraction around the world, most with AAs. This would be the only Avengers attraction of its kind (so far anyways). So I would think they would try to have at least a single AA for Thanos, if not more.

Which Peter Pans have AA's. I know the US versions only have animated figures rather than full AA's.

Sorry, I wasn't being a stickler for AAs versus "animated figures with limited motion", I was just classifying them all as AAs in this context. And outside of the new one in Tokyo (unless I'm missing one) all have some form of "animated figure".

The overall point was that the ride system used doesn't automatically mean no AAs (or even animated figures with limited motion) just because one use of it for a different attraction didn't have them.

Well, I don’t think an animated figure would quite cut it for the Avengers ride. Haha.

I agree that the ride system doesn’t automatically mean there will be no AAs but it’s also not a great sign that new Peter Pan ride doesn’t have any. In Tokyo nevertheless where they go the extra mile and spend the $$$. I don’t expect many AAs on the Avengers ride but a huge impressive Thanos AA is a non negotiable.

100% agree, that would be a fail for me.

I think two are a possibility, a Thanos one (this one I would bet), and a Hulk one.

If it helps, I think the odds are better here because Peter Pan was never intended to be Fantasy Springs headliner attraction. Infinity Defense is meant to anchor the land.

Definitely helps. I factored that in. That’s why I wouldn’t be surprised if there will be 2-3 AAs between the ride and the pre show. What I’m concerned about is that we don’t have many examples of this or similar ride systems with many or any AA’s. Spider-Man, Transformers and Peter Pan. So I think there is something there that doesn’t make these attractions AA friendly. I think these rides are so screen focused that throwing in the physical AAs actually hurt more than help the ride experience as they make what’s happening on screen less “real” in comparison. It can be done but execution needs to be great.

The Jurassic World ride in Beijing is a great example of how it can be done but it’s not as screen focused as the other rides I mentioned and was designed around having large dinosaur AAs. Also the show building for Avengers doesn’t look all that large now that they re sharing the space with the flat ride. I feel like if they were going for a ride with larger sets and show pieces they wouldn’t have found a way to cram that flat ride in there. I’m hopeful and cautiously optimistic for 2-3 AA’s but also would not be shocked if there was only one Thanos or none at all.
