Since everything on this mornings Realtor feed was about how to respond positively to questions about the Disney pullout, I’m going to say that this story, written by a real estate agent, should probably be taken with a grain of salt. I think very few would cutoff their guaranteed $132,000 (average relocated workers pay) job in California, to gamble to find something similar in Florida, especially with the higher paying jobs starting to dry up here.

You have an interested author to be sure. But in general would it be surprising that people who were the first ones to make the move, would rather stay in Florida, rather than uproot again and move across the country for a second time?
Probably due to cost of living issues.

I hate to say it but those that moved from CA to FL probably did it more for the political environment in FL compared to CA and because it is something they believe in more than the Disney or job aspect. No one just ups and moves all the way across the country for cost of living issues before a job is actually there.
During Covid many did just that.

You don't think that transferring (presumably) good jobs to a lower cost of living state when the company is willing to pay for relocation might have factored in? It would be a rather odd route to go get a job in Anaheim if you really wanted to live and work in Florida.
I would say that article might have more to do with a realtor cold calling people he recently got a commission from trying to get them to sell their houses near Orlando, and they told him to take a hike.
FL/GA stateline, law enforcement stopping vehicles with NJ/NY plates from entering the Sunshine State during summer 2020.
Many thousands with remote jobs did just this.
Even Florida at its most expensive is still comparatively cheaper than NYC or Socal/SF, especially if you’re earning NYC/Socal/SF wages.

Seems they just want to hit the "in excess of" standard and let the court/jury set the amount. I would want 1M+ in their circumstances to be close to whole again. Going to need new jobs after this tooHere a lawsuit over people that moved…

1. Yes, the employee have a detrimental reliance claim.
2. Both FL and CA are at will employment states and if and ee's were not covered under a CBA or contract, the ee's who bought homes in advance could have been terminated or self terminated at any time for any or no reason at all.
3. Those that self terminated and relocated in anticipation of higher pay, they are just stupid.

I agree, but the timing of the situation couldn't have been any better to create an excuse and flex a little muscle at the same time. Loved it! Although not the main reason it really was the proverbial straw that broke the camels back. Every once in a while management does something right. Who knew!

Does Disney still own the land?
Now that all of the fighting between Disney and the state is over, is Disney still keeping the land in case they decide to proceed with this?
I'm all in, selfishly, for WDI to move to Orlando so they can look at how out of shape our 4 parks are.

There’s already a sizable contingent working at Epcot. The trailer complex at Disney’s Animal Kingdom being built by Disney indicates it may stick around after Tropical Americas is complete.
WDI had numerous cast in Orlando while Eisner was in charge. After the Treasure Planet movie dud, a good amount of them were fired.

Well aware, just think that Florida being "home" for the entire team makes far more sense from a strategic perspective. Not just 4 WDW parks, but also 3 Universal parks that can provide inspiration for them.
