Just a Devil's Advocate Your Mileage May Vary kind of deal - most of the double strollers I look up specify that they have a max capacity of 100 lbs, but they break it down to "50 lbs maximum on both sides." It's possible that those limits can be surpassed, I suppose, but if you're renting a trailer I don't know if having one tear on you because one seat surpassed the max weight limit for that seat might lose you your deposit, or if you buy one, if it'll affect a return policy.

I haven't read all the responses but we are going in September with our 3 and 6yo and we are absolutely renting a double stroller. The 6yo rides when she's tired but also it's a good place to sit when we watch a parade or grab a snack and can double as an umbrella if it rains (which it most likely will in September). I would rent a double. Most deliver to you and pick up and come with a rain cover. My husband thought I was crazy for our last trip bit he said it's the best money we spent on the trip. It's is a TON of walking. I hit 30,000- 40,000 steps a day. You will not be the only ones with older kids in a stroller. Our daughter gets the same pains...just growing pains after particularly active days. She didn't ride that much this last trip but it was nice to give her the option. And she's an active kid normally. We play sports, go on walks and bike rides. And sometimes it's just easier to plop 2 kids in the stroller if it gets a little crowded. I'm actually surprised at the people thinking it's strange. I just think it's a good option to have just in case...plus it's great storage!!! That being said...it's likely he will want to walk since there is so much to see.

There is nothing wrong with a 3 yo in a stroller. We are talking about kids over 5-6 years old that are usually over the stroller limit. And it is strange because up until about a decade ago, kids walked. You never saw an 8 year old in a stroller. If kids up until now were capable of using their own 2 feet, what are we doing to kids now that they are having so many issues?

Huge difference between the 5- and 6-year olds now being mentioned and an 8-year old, as is the case with the OP.

Agree. I didn’t own any strollers by the time my son was 5, but all of my friends convinced me to rent one at Disney. I’m a fast walker. I cross from one side of the park to the other and back again. I get up early and stay out late. That specific trip was early September, including Labor Day.. with late nights at MK.

So, I rented one at the parks..parked it in a land, we’d walk around for a few hours.. and then go back to the stroller so I could speed walk to our next dining reservation.

My son was active then too, but he needed it for a few hours out of the day.. with me, because of how I am. But the next year- when he was 6? Or this year when he was 7? No way. The thought didn’t even cross my mind.

Huge difference between those ages.

Funny thing...I don't own any strollers at home. I guess we rent one for our our own ease. Like another poster mentioned...it's easy to let them sit when we zig zag all over, but we also generally park and walk for a while. I don't think my kid would sit in one at 8 but I think having it as an option isn't a terrible idea if you are in a bind. My 6 yo sat in ours when we wanted them to stay close or it rained...but again...that was few and far between.

I think you should do what you as a mother think is best. Especially given the knee issues he has.

Maybe my kid wouldn’t have slept thru the MVMCP parade if I would have used a stroller while zig zagging when he was 6.lol.

If I would have already had a stroller for a younger child, then I would have let him sit in it for a little while too.
