Rob, that last picture you took is very eerie. With it being dark outside, a dark emptiless pit now full of past magical experiences, it just seems to give me a sad, upset feeling. I still wish I could've been there during the days when 20K operated. Thanks for the pictures, I'll get some when I'm there in 16 days too.

General Grizz]I think Horizons was much worse, especially as it was in full guest view. Gosh, I didn't step foot in that park till 'Space' had gotten underway.
I agree. Watching Horizons come down was like a nightmare. First of all seeing this great ride destroyed and also, like you said, in was in plain site. Very eerie.

It's so wierd to see 20K like that. It was always so colorful and now it's rubble. Is this demolition extending to Ariel's Grotto, as far as Triton in the water? Or is he protected?

I wonder if you'd mind if I add your new image from July to the site (I'll credit you for the photo) since a lot has changed and I can't get shots right now to track the changes.

MissM, hope you got my email. You're free to use my 20k Pics on your site. Good luck with the site. I should be getting more room to post some more pics and will post my remaining ones. I tried to send them to MKT without luck.

I feel terrible that I ruined people's day yesterday with my pic. I hope everyone recovered!

To make amends, here is a more happy picture from my week-end...

Just on a side note, I hope to get into the city (chicago) and take pictures of Walt's birth home and then the second home he lived in from 1917-1918 as he finished high school. I'll get those scanned on here and hope to get someone to host those as well for me.

WDWScottieBoy, what are the exact addresses of these homes?

I did get your email, Kevin, and thanks. If you don't have room to put them somewhere else, you're welcome to email them to me and I'll put them up on the 20k site. I have gigs of hosting space. ;)

I may get to go in two weeks to see it for myself, but your shot was great and will help track the progress a lot.

I don't have the exact addresses on me right now, but I will EDIT this tomorrow (today techinically) and get you those. I know one is on Tripp and the other on Ogden.

Very cool. If you get me the addresses, I'll post a few pics of them.

Kevin,

His birth house is at 2156 North Tripp (originally addressed 1249 North Tripp at time of his birth). This house was built by his father whom was a carpenter for many years and built many houses along Tripp Ave during their years in Chicago. After moving to Marceline, Walt and his family moved back to Chicago in 1917 where Walt graduated from McKinley High School. While living in Chicago from 1917-1918, his family lived at 1523 Ogden. If you could get pictures of those that would be awesome. I will be going into Chicago myself sometime soon to get pictures as well. Unfortunately the owners of the two properties don't like to be bothered and enjoy their privacy. I wish the city of Chicago would buy those houses and make them permanent museums.

Can't really blame them. The same goes for me and no famous person has ever lived in MY house. I can imagine it gets very annoying to them. However, you taking a couple of pictures requires no action on their part. You can probably take the pictures and leave without them ever knowing you were there.

That's exactly what I plan on doing. I don't want the owners to feel uncomforable by me taking pictures and some video all day thinking I'm some stalkeer or terrorist. Just going, taking a couple pictures and then I'm leaving. Of course, I'll go off to Navy Pier for the fireworks or some shopping wih my girlfriend after, but this is my Disney pre-WDW trip.

Thanks for sending the four photos my way, Kevin. I've updated the site with them. Wow. They're really demolishing it. I couldn't believe how much had changed since I last saw it in June. April - May - June not much happened. Can't say that now. I'm really glad to have a chance to see this process though for as sad as I am they're tearing it down. It's just morbidly interesting watching the death of a ride.

Anyway, you can see Kevin's other three pics along with the demolition so far here: http://www.giveneyestosee.com/20k/

Thanks again.

Oh hey, no problem. I really had to get them up after seeing just how much had really (seeming very suddenly) changed. It's amazing to chart the progression from April to July and what it looks like now.

I might be able to get there in the next couple weeks but if not, I'd love to put an open call out for anyone who gets photos over the next few weeks to let me know so I can keep adding to the progress. (Right now, I'm saving up to renew my expired passes - I knew spending some time away from Disney would be hard, I just didn't realize how much they'd kick it into high gear while I was away!)

Goodness, that's an eyesore. Good thing, they're going to replace it with a great E-ticket attraction...

What? No?

Than, a couple of well-themed D-ticket rides, right?

Oh... Um...

Never mind.
