easywdw is saying that Disney is about to invest $500 million into Hollywood Studios. Normally I would say its just another site posting rumors but I've never seen him use his site in that manner before. He also says that the Great Movie Ride will get a classic movie makeover, rather than a modern movie makeover.

I know the website owner of that site frequents here, but not sure that he posts. If so, maybe he can shed a little more light on his sources for this information or give some further details.

As long as GMR gets Howard the Duck! It's a classic!

Well that's some new rumor i've not heard here, though in another topic recently I believe this guy was stated to have some shaky information, so there's no telling whether this guy is legit.

And apparently a Cars Land is supposedly still in the works from insiders on wdwmagic. Would $500 million actually cover a Cars Land clone alone, let alone Cars AND extra work done to the Studios (like this supposed Great Movie Ride makeover)? Not even sure if $500 mil is enough JUST for Cars.

Granted I think a Great Movie Ride makeover with more of an emphasis on classic vs modern films is a great idea. IF done with loving care, particularly using actual scenes with physical sets and animatronics (scenes composed of nothing but projected video screens can go to hell).

Carsland cost over $500 million to build, but since DHS is getting the "value-engineered" version, and the development costs have already been spent, I can see how that figure would cover what the OP describes.

I'm still hoping for the Monsters, Inc. coaster to be included too.

A lot of numbers have bandied about before. It appears someone is hoping (again) for some extra traffic courtesy of this site.....

Just of the humble opinion that GMR moves too slow for todays audience. And the moving seats have mostly lost their novelty. The same emotional effect could be achieved with a wrap around theater screen with classic movie clips (possibly updated in 3-D) Presented in a similar theater style to that found in France in WS.

Then the rest of the building could be repurposed.

Three attractions could go in that footprint. Theater with awesome lobby, something off Pixar Place, and something off of Muppet Square.

How about hell no.

WDW has lost enough of its animatronic-heavy rides full of elaborate and detailed physical set pieces, way too many. Stupid idea to want to remove even more. Video screens, no matter how large, wide, or whatever cannot compare. One can only praise heaven above that Spaceship Earth's structure turned out to be unfit for the early plans they had to replace it with a roller coaster and remove all physical sets and animatronics in favor of projected screens.

Is it sad that I'm thinking that 500 Million doesn't sound like enough?
The fact that something like that would cost 500 million could be considered sad, but no you're not sad for thinking that, just realistic. Disney is very wasteful with their money and it takes them way more than it should to build certain things. I'm not convinced they could build a decent Cars Land clone alone including nothing else for 500 million (I believe New Fantasyland cost around that much or so and it doesn't compare with Cars). Though someone can correct me if they know better. But if this rumor had any weight to it at all, I definitely can't see that being enough.

Unless Cars and this 500 million figure are unrelated and they're going to be separate aspects.

Again though, no telling whether this guy even knows anything. Many people here seem to be in agreement that he's full of BS and trolling for site hits or something. Unless it came from the insiders here, best to assume it's not true until official confirmation.
